Sleeping With The CEO
Chapter 146: One More Than The Other

Chapter 146: One More Than The Other

Emily had two options now.

Go back to her old job at Haven Group and become Derek Haven’s PA again. That was option one.

Or, on the other hand, she could stay on at Bee’s Diner, keep being a waitress, biding her time until she figured out something else. That would have been her option too. But if Emily were to say that she was seriously considering staying at Bee’s Diner indefinitely, then she would have been lying to herself.

And since she was not in the habit of telling herself lies, Emily had to go with the honest option and admit that she was leaning heavily, very, very, heavily, towards going back to Haven Group. In fact, Emily had already made a decision on which option she would be taking.

She was going back to Haven Group. Come Monday, she would be back at her old job, once again wearing the title of Emily Molson personal assistant to the CEO. She had told Derek to come back again that night. Had told him that it was because she was still thinking things through. But in all honesty, even back at the diner, she had already made her choice. The only reason that she had not given him a straight answer then and there, was because she had not wanted to make a fool of herself.

If she had given her answer back then, Emily was pretty certain that she would have embarrassed herself. While some might have said that that was not important since the man had already caught her acting like a fool, singing and dancing with a mop in her hand.

Emily would have disagreed vehemently. After all, when she had been singing and dancing, that time that he had walked in, Emily had thought that she was completely alone. She had not been expecting anyone to show up.

But the issue with her telling him that she was coming back was completely different. Had she done it in that moment, she would have done it while squealing like a die-hard music fan at a concert. And that was not a good look at all. It was not professional. And since she was going back to being his PA. She actually cared, whether or not he saw her in a professional light. Which was why Emily was taking the time to let it all sink in. Making her way home this time, Emily did not have to listen to upbeat music in an effort to try and cheer herself up. No, in fact, this time she was not listening to any music at all.

She just had her headphones on, but there was no sound coming from them. The music came solely from her. Emily broke into a random song, humming the tune under her breath as she walked and every few steps she would jump a little bit.

A big smile on her face as she skipped across the sidewalk. She had her job back. She was Derek Haven’s PA again. And not only that, they were going to sleep together. And there was a huge, huge chance that Emily’s nightmares would become a thing of the past. Just thinking of how her fortunes had changed in a matter of a few hours had Emily giggling to herself. She drew a few looks, but for the most part the people around her knew to ignore her. It was the city after all. Strange things happened all the time.

By the time she arrived at the apartment, Emily’s joy had yet to dissipate and she was enjoying every single moment of it. She ran into her mom in the living room, the older woman getting ready to leave. She was attending some charity sponsored marathon thing that morning.

Rather than just greet her with a simple good morning, Emily drew her mom into a hug, and gave her a solid kiss on the cheek. "Good morning mom. Lovely, lovely day we’re having, isn’t it?" She said. And her mom laughed. "Well then, I’m glad to see someone’s in a good mood. I am off to run a race that I am in no way qualified for. Later on I will come back and complain about how awful it was,"

"But you are still going to do it," Emily told her and her mom laughed. "Of course I am. We are the Molson women. If we do not do it, who will?" Her mom looked down at her watch and let out a curse.

"Sorry, Ems, I have to go or I will be late," The exchange was brief, her mom dashing out the door right after that , but it was still enough to make Emily’s mood go even higher. She was barely able to restrain herself long enough to fix herself something to eat and then go have a shower. But she managed it and through willpower alone she made it to her bed.

Once settled in though, sleep would not come, but it was not due to nightmares. After tossing and turning for a while, smiling every time she thought of Derek and the good news that he had brought, Emily finally decided to get up. She grabbed her embroidery and got to work.

When she began, she had no particular shape in mind. She was just enjoying the feel of the thread in her hand and the way that it moved through the cloth. But by the time that she finished, Emily realized that she had managed to make something that symbolized her mood. It was a flower. And it was not just any flower.

It was a flower in bloom.

A symbol of all of the hope that she felt deep within her, coming alive at the prospect of what the future now held for her. After finishing it off, Emily put it away, glancing at the craft project one more time and smiling at it before she closed the drawer and locked it.

Then instead of returning to bed, she went to the tiny desk in her bedroom and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. She could have simply typed out her resignation letter for Bee’s Diner, but a handwritten note felt more personal.

Plus, that was not the only letter that she would be writing that day. So Emily decided to just do it all at once, rather than typing one letter out and then going about writing the others by hand. But as she wrote it, Emily had to admit that even for her, it was a record.

Two resignation letters written within the space of a few weeks. But this one was very different from the one that she had written at Haven Group. Unlike the one at Haven Group where she had felt as though her world was falling apart, writing this resignation letter was giving her a sense of freedom.

And by the time that Emily finished it, she was feeling even lighter than when she had begun. With that letter done, she pulled out one more sheet of paper and began to write. Unlike with the letter for the manager of Bee’s diner, this one was not formal in the least, and instead of just one recipient it had four.

Ethan, little Ella, Marcus and Miss Beth.

The letter was short and brief, not weighed down by countless useless words. Instead it was just Emily speaking from the heart.

I would like to thank all of you for being the best regular customers ever. Your presence at Bee’s diner really helped me through a rough patch. Thank you. Thank you so much. I wish all four of you an everlasting friendship. I am forever grateful to have met all of you.

Emily finished it off like that. There was so much that she wanted to say, so much more that she wanted them to know. But somehow it all just boiled down to those few words and she hoped that when the group got the letter. They would see how much they meant to her, even if she could not fully express it with her writing.

Letters done. Emily finally felt as though she’d had enough. She felt tired enough to go to sleep. And with that, she got back under the covers and finally went to sleep. She managed to last a full forty-five minutes before a nightmare woke her up. But this time, unlike all the other times where she woke up feeling dejected, Emily woke up with a smile on her face.

She had hope.

She had Derek on her side now.
