Sleeping With My Step Daddy
Chapter 68: "Ready for Choose One"

Chapter 68: "Ready for Choose One"

The morning light glowed softly through the curtains. Kai was still asleep, resting peacefully in Bast’s arms. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open. Bast was still sleeping beside him, his expression calm and gentle.

Kai gazed at him quietly, then traced his fingers lightly along Bast’s cheek and whispered,

Kai: "I missed the mornings when I woke up and saw your face first."

Bast’s eyes slowly opened. He looked at Kai and smiled.

Bast: "Good morning, my baby."

Kai: "Morning."

Bast wrapped an arm around Kai’s waist and asked softly,

Bast: "Feeling better?"

Kai gave a small nod.

Bast: "Does it hurt?"

Kai: "A little."

Bast: "That’s because we did it after two years. It’s normal to feel sore. I’ll put some cream—"

Kai blushed shyly, quickly grabbing his shirt and putting it on.

Kai: "No need. I’m okay."

Bast suddenly grabbed his wrist and pulled him closer with a smirk.

Bast: "Then give me a morning kiss."

Kai smiled, cupped Bast’s face in his hands, and kissed him softly.

Bast: "I missed waking up to your morning kisses."

Kai: "Me too."

Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door.

Kai (startled): "Bast, put on your clothes! What if someone sees us like this?"

Bast: "Noo~"

He stood up lazily and walked into the bathroom..

Kai quickly got up and opened the door. Standing there was Reiji, as usual, with his smug attitude.

Reiji: "Good morning, honey."

Kai (muttering): "Ugh... this shit again."

Reiji: "I heard from Mom that Sebastian Vaughn is here... He’s our guest, right?"

He tried to peek inside the room.

Kai (blocking the view): "What do you want this early in the morning?"

Reiji’s eyes narrowed as he noticed Kai’s messy hair... and the faint red marks on his neck.

Reiji: "What’s that on your neck?"

Kai quickly covered his neck with his hand.

Kai: "Nothing!"

Reiji pushed his way into the room and looked around suspiciously. His gaze landed on the bed—rumpled sheets, tangled blankets, everything a mess.

Reiji: "Did you fight a war last night on this bed or what?"

Kai hesitated, then snapped,

Kai: "What are you saying? Don’t bother me—I need to get ready."

But Reiji didn’t move.

Reiji: "Why does this bed look like a couple’s first night? Way too... horny."

Kai stood frozen, unsure what to say—then the bathroom door opened.

Bast stepped out wearing only a bathrobe, his presence calm, confident, and ridiculously attractive.

Reiji’s eyes widened in shock.

Reiji: "Is he... Sebastian Vaughn?"

Bast walked over and stood beside Kai, looking effortlessly handsome. He glanced at Reiji with cool indifference.

Reiji: "Hello, I’m Reiji—Kai’s cousin and fiancé."

Bast (calmly): "I’m Kai’s everything."

Reiji (confused): "What’s that supposed to mean?"

Kai glanced nervously between them.

Bast (firmly): "It means I’m his everything—his dad, mom, friend, lover, boyfriend, and husband."

He wrapped an arm around Kai’s waist and pulled him closer, then kissed him right in front of Reiji.

Kai’s eyes widened in shock.

Kai: "B-Bast..."

Bast: "You should take a shower."

He gently pushed Kai toward the bathroom. Kai, still stunned, walked in and shut the door.

The moment the door closed, Bast’s entire expression changed—his eyes turned cold and dangerous.

Reiji stood frozen, stunned by what he had just witnessed. His thoughts were a mess.

"So it’s true... Kai’s in love with his stepdad... and he’s actually sleeping with him..."

Reiji shook his head as if trying to reject the reality in front of him.

Reiji (trying to compose himself): "Mr. Vaughn, I’m Kai’s fiancé. You have no right to kiss him like that! Look—"

He held up his hand, showing off a gold engagement ring.

Bast (calmly, with a chilling smile): "You really think that ring makes you his fiancé?"

He slowly stepped closer, his aura dark and suffocating.

Bast (voice low, dangerous): "He’s mine. Don’t ever call yourself his fiancé again... if you want to stay alive."

Reiji’s eyes widened.

Reiji: "How dare you threaten me?!"

Bast (smiling coldly): "Break the engagement."

Reiji (defiant): "And if I don’t?"

Bast: "Then everyone will know how easily you spread your legs for men."

Reiji’s face went pale.

Reiji: "What the hell are you saying?!"

Bast’s eyes gleamed with pure menace.

Bast: "If you don’t want your life to turn into a nightmare, stay the hell away from him."

Reiji didn’t say a word. He quickly turned and walked out of the room, his face stiff with emotion.

Bast sat down on the edge of the bed, his eyes resting on the ring around his finger—the one Kai had put there.

At the breakfast table, the atmosphere was tense.

The entire family was secretly sneaking glances at Bast, but he remained calm, sitting right beside Kai and eating his breakfast as if nothing had happened.

Takeshi: "Hope you slept well, Sebastian Vaughn."

Bast gave a small smile, glancing at Kai.

Bast: "Very well."

Reiji’s face tightened with frustration. He stared at Kai, but then his eyes shifted downward—to Kai’s fingers. His heart sank.

Kai had changed the ring.

He was no longer wearing the gold engagement ring Reiji gave him, but a different one.

Kai noticed Reiji’s gaze and quickly turned his head, pretending not to see.

Later, in a private room, Bast sat calmly on the couch across from Takeshi.

Takeshi: "Sebastian Vaughn, now tell me... what problem did Jennifer have when you met her?"

Bast leaned back, relaxed but serious.

Bast: "She told me that she and Kai didn’t feel secure in Japan."

Takeshi narrowed his eyes.

Takeshi: "Why? Why did she feel insecure? Who was threatening her?"

Bast: "I don’t know. But now—for Kai’s sake—I want to find out. I’ve started looking into it... to understand why Jennifer left Japan and what exactly she was facing."

Takeshi (sharply): "That’s not your concern."

Bast (calmly): "Mr. Takeshi... why do you keep forgetting that I’m Kai’s—"

Takeshi (cutting in with a sigh): "I know. I know..."

Bast: "I know one of Jennifer’s friends. When I came to Japan, she was living with Jennifer."

Takeshi glanced at Bast, curious.

Bast: "I’ve already told my men to look into her."

Takeshi gave a small nod, approving the move.

Meanwhile, Kai stood on the balcony, his thoughts heavy. The tension between Bast and Takeshi made him uneasy. He didn’t want to lose either of them. Not the man he loved... and not the only family member who truly cared for him.

As he stood silently watching the city, Reiji walked up beside him, hands in his pockets. He joined him without a word, eyes fixed on the same distant view.

Reiji (quietly): "Kai... is it true? That you’re in love with your stepdad?"

Kai glanced at him, then gave a firm nod.

Kai: "I already told you. He’s my lover."

Reiji’s gaze didn’t leave the horizon.

Reiji: "Then... where’s your engagement ring?"

Kai looked down at his hand and showed him the ring on his finger.

Kai: "This is my real engagement ring."

Reiji’s eyes briefly flicked to Kai’s hand, his voice gentler this time.

Reiji: "You’re engaged to Sebastian Vaughn?"

Kai nodded silently.

Reiji exhaled slowly, then said with a small, sad smile,

Reiji: "It looks better on your finger than the other one."

Kai didn’t respond. The two of them just stood there in silence, side by side, staring out at the view as the breeze gently brushed past them.

Kai stood silently, lost in his thoughts. His mind wandered back to the night before—to the moment when Bast noticed the ring on his finger.

He remembered how Bast’s expression shifted. The flash of anger in his eyes wasn’t just jealousy—it was hurt. But even in his anger, there was still love. Always love.

Kai had stayed quiet at first, unsure what to say. Then, with trembling fingers, he’d opened the drawer beside his bed. Inside, carefully kept for two years, was the ring Bast had given him—a promise ring.

Kai gently held it out to him.

Bast stared at it for a moment before reaching out and taking Kai’s hand. Without hesitation, he pulled off the gold engagement ring and tossed it aside like it meant nothing.

Then, slowly, reverently, he slid the promise ring onto Kai’s finger again.

A symbol of what was real.

"Kai."

Reiji’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts. Kai blinked and looked at him.

"I broke off the engagement," Reiji said, his tone unusually calm. "But... I need some time."

Kai’s eyes widened in shock. "What?" he breathed.

Reiji met his gaze, steady and serious. Kai whispered to himself, How is he suddenly so calm and gentle to me...?

"I understand your love," Reiji said quietly.

Kai exhaled, a mix of disbelief and relief washing over him. "Thanks, Reiji... for understanding me."

Reiji gave a faint nod, but then added, "But remember... will Uncle Takeshi accept your relationship? What if he doesn’t agree?" His eyes locked on Kai’s. "Are you ready to choose one of them?"

Kai looked down, pain slowly filling his eyes. He didn’t know how to respond. His heart felt torn between the two people who mattered most to him.

His mind echoed the only truth he knew.

I don’t want to lose either of them...
