Chapter 848: 845: Plan

Corey had been thinking about how best he could leave the group without it leading to a more annoying situation for him in the future.

But what he never expected was for an opportunity to appear in front of him to do this.

An opportunity that most would not see as an opportunity, but was an opportunity nevertheless for him.

’Yes. This can work. I just need to be careful and not be unlucky, then I can leave the group.’

Corey’s eyes flashed with a calculating light as his eyes landed on the towering Archive in the distance.

As for why Corey believed that the Archive could be used to separate him from the Thirteenth Dawn?

It was because the Archive was not what it used to be.

Through the lens of his Eyes of Omniscience, the building that once stood as a proud remnant of ancient knowledge was no more.

The energy and weight of knowledge Corey experienced when he first appeared before the Archive was completely absent, making it seem like a normal tall building.

Even the color of the building felt dull and lifeless in Corey’s Eyes of Omniscience.

Its architecture was still grand. It still had pillars of weathered stone, cracked glass domes, and spiraling towers, but the air around it was completely different.

If Corey was to describe it, the air felt... murky.

HisVibration Manipulation brought to his attention, a faint vibration rippling through the ground, and Corey knew what exactly was causing this extremely faint vibration that no member of the Thirteenth Dawn would be able to sense.

It was the source of the vibration that truly caught his attention, not the Archive itself.

It was what was beneath the building.

Buried beneath the Archive and coiled like a dormant predator like a serpent, was a creature that emitted the aura of a Tier 6!

It’s faint breathing was the source of the vibration Corey felt, and only the faint movement of its body as it breathed showed that this thing was alive.

It didn’t move a single muscle, but its body was truly horrific.

Its body was long and segmented like that of a worm, and it was covered in thick armor plates of tarnished black and bronze color. Spines jutted out of each segment, and they twitched slightly despite the fact that the creature didn’t move.

The creature’s back was lined with extremely black runes that burned faintly, and from its undersides were dozens of dangling long, thin tendrils that looked like emaciated hands. Some of the fingers ended in pale claws and blades.

All of these about the creature’s appearance was horrifying, but its face was the most horrifying.

It had no mouth, only a vertical split of flesh held together by countless stitches, and when Corey saw that, he had a feeling that if the monster spoke or screamed, it would be torn apart because of the literal stitches on it.

But when Corey analyzed the stitches, he realized that even the thread-like stitches were extremely strong and powerful.

Powerful enough to shred a Tier 4 to pieces.

The creature also had three eyes that were stacked vertically on its face, and each glowed with three different colors- Red, Blue, and Gold.

He looked away from the Archive with a neutral expression, and then he faced the group.

His fingers moved in the air, and beautiful crimson flaming words appeared in the air.

"I think we should head over there."

Corey gestured at the Archive, causing several of them to have raised brows.

"Why? What’s over there?" Myra asked with furrowed brows.

"I believe that we’ll be able to get a better view of the city from up there. Also, that building is obviously different from every other building we’ve seen."

"We’ve not tried to explore this city because of how dangerous it is, but I believe that we should explore that building since it’s extremely different from the others."

"Who knows. We might find something that might help us in this trial or something that would hint at the source of the corruption of the city in there."

The group went silent as they read Corey’s words in the air, and they all looked in the direction of the Archive with pondering expressions.

Everything Corey had said was true, and they knew that they had not truly explored the city.

What did they know about the Dying City?

What was its history?

Why was it like this?

How did it get corrupted?

What was even the true name of the Dying City?

They had never asked themselves questions like this, and they did not know why they believed that the source of the corruption of the city was at the center.

And when they pondered on Corey’s words, they realized that they might have been tackling the system trial wrongly.

However, they could not be blamed.

The dangers of the Dying City was too high for them, and their minds, focus, and attention was on keeping themselves alive.

However, they knew that they might have to change their strategy.

They needed information.

"Ryan is right. We have no information about this city. We know nothing about it, and this has been a great mistake and oversight on my part."

"I suggest we go to that building. What about you guys?"

Kieran looked at Myra, Zeke, Aelric, and Rhys.

Zeke shrugged. "No problem. But if we don’t find anything, let’s leave as soon as possible. I don’t want to spend another damn night in this place."

Myra nodded. "Exactly. We can go to the building, but we shouldn’t waste time in that place."

Aelric said nothing and only nodded.

Rhys did the same, and Kieran nodded.

"Good. Let’s go."

Corey nodded with a neutral expression when he felt Kieran’s gaze on him, and then his gaze landed on the Archive.

Although he knew that his plan was extremely dangerous and could potentially lead to the death of one or all the members of the Thirteenth Dawn, he would try to make sure that does not happen.

And if it did, then he would definitely not care.
