Chapter 58: Learning The Art Of Cooking

"Ow!" the knife dropped from my hand instantly. My teary eyes fell on the small wound I have given myself, it was just a grease but that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt and bleed, my eyes darted to the rest of the small bandage covering my fingers. It was a nightmare! I wonder how Elvenia does this. The whole day I spent in this kitchen was nothing but pain for me, if the smoke didn’t get to my eyes it would be my throat and worse, chopping vegetables was a nightmare.

"Perhaps you should retire, young miss"

I turned to Elvenia and bit my bottom lip, feeling uneasy from her dark gaze. "Be honest with me" I began gulping. "How do I do so far?"

She blinks, before sighing probably fed up. I knew she didn’t want me here, it was either keep this or that in the exact same position, she practically worshiped this kitchen.

"You’re the worst and I do not see you learning anything related to this kitchen" She took my hand and brought them to my eye level. "This is a disaster, I’m afraid you will have to retire and not do this again, Master will scold me when he finds out"

I pulled away. "Well if I can’t cook then teach me to bake!"

"You haven’t even learned the basics and yet you want to bake" she clearly huffed at this point but she had forgotten something. I was quite determined if I had to do something, William taught me that.

"Then I have to be good at something at least" I mumbled, facing the catastrophe I call chopping, the vegetables all over the place if not on the floor too. Elvenia was right... I was the worst but that doesn’t mean I can’t get better.

"Why are you so determined to learn this? I’m the housekeeper of this place, you need not worry about such things, these are beneath you"

"That is not right, wives must know how to cook for their husbands" I blurted before I could stop myself. But that was the point and I wasn’t taking it back.

I noticed something flashed in Elvenia’s eyes but I couldn’t make sense of it. She said nothing as she turned her eyes to the table.

"Is that your intention? To cook for the master?"

I blushed. "I-It’s part of my duty as his bride is it not?"

She huffed. "The master does not need to eat"

"What?" I asked with trembling eyes. "He does not need sleep the same way he does not need food?" I asked with wide eyes but mostly worried.

"Yes they are factors a body needs but he does not depend on them. He won’t die from lack of sleep, he won’t starve for not eating,"

"But..." I mumbled suddenly remembering when I set my eyes on William’s sleeping form, a very image I have imprinted in my brain to never be erased, it was perfection.

"Your notion of learning to cook should end here, you’re making a mess of my kitchen"

"Forgive me" I muttered suddenly feeling guilty but that didn’t stop me. "I still want to learn to bake, e-even though he does not need to eat that doesn’t mean he can’t if he wants to right?"

She stared blankly at me but she looked away. "You won’t last, you can’t even chop properly" she mumbled before walking away.

"E-Elvenia!" but she was already gone with the door slamming behind her, it’s official now, she won’t teach me anymore, she definitely hates me more than she did before I could feel it.

I sighed, turning to my tragedy. "Elvenia learned from William, William learned from books" an idea instantly popped into my head. "That’s it! I just need a cookbook," I was relieved and excited, at least that would clearly help me now.

I smirk, I will definitely make you eat your words Elvenia!

"She’s ruining my kitchen! My space!" Elvenia exploded right at Severus for she merely blamed him for supporting the young miss on this, maybe even boosting her morale. "She has been in that kitchen for 2 days doing god knows what, it is a disaster!"

"Calm down Elvenia, not too loud or the master will hear," Severus said trying to calm her storm, she was only like this when Sophia was being a brat, and it was rare to see her angry.

"Ugh!" she growled, pacing in the room and murmuring to herself.

This was getting out of hand for Severus knew how important that kitchen was to her, it was a gift from the master and a means to her purpose, he had tasked the job to her and Elvenia was someone who took her assignment seriously especially when it was from the master. She did it wholeheartedly and discreetly, loves it, and cherishes it, it was her joy and ambition in life.

Severus sighed. "Perhaps you are actually angry that the young miss is doing this for the master?"

She instantly stopped in her tracks.

"She clearly wants the master to taste her cooking for she considers it as a duty, how sweet of the young miss" he mused.

Elvenia’s lips pressed in a thin line and she turned to face Severus with her stoic expression void of emotions. "And what do you mean by that?"

Severus’s smirk broadens. "Are you jealous, my Elvenia? That the master would get to taste her cooking instead of yours?"

Her teeth clenched. "I do not know what you speak of"

"It wouldn’t hurt to support her Elvenia, it’s part of your duty is it not?"

"My duty is to the master, my loyalty lies with him only"

"But she’s the Master’s mate, his better half, his wife, and a woman who would bear his unborn children, doesn’t that loyalty apply to her too? She is of that much importance, Elvenia" he rose to his feet and patted her shoulder with his palm.

"Think wisely" the last of his words as he walked out of the room leaving Elvenia to her thoughts.
