Chapter 43: The Reason Behind The Mask
This was the plan, get his attention with this book and catch him off guard for I knew he won’t speak to me otherwise... I needed something solid for that to happen. That was the only reason I brought this book. But why do I feel like I have gotten myself in trouble?
I was too far gone already... What’s the worst that can happen?
"Can you teach me, Master?"
I spotted something usual... William swallowed and I watched as his Adam’s apple went up and down before my eyes, that was enough to get his attention right?
There was silence and I was beginning to wonder if I had done something wrong. My plan must have most likely failed because now he was acting dead again. What should I do now? I was confused and felt unwanted here.
"M-Maybe you’re busy, I shall leave you" This was my last attempt as I rose to my feet but any further advances were not given to me because his hand grabbed my wrist and I gasped as he pulled me to him, I was hoping to fall back on my seat but no instead I fell on his lap, My eyes broadened in shock. What just happened?
"You should know Ava..." he began in a tone I could hardly recognize and it caused a sensation to sink between my legs. What is this feeling? And it seemed to respond to his every tone. "...Always finish what you start" he added smoothly.
"I Intend to finish," I think I might have succeeded in grabbing his attention but why do I feel like I have done something way more?
"William," I began softly. "I’m sorry for making you angry, I did something I’m not supposed to" I began. "Can you tell me what I did to make you angry?"
There was silence and I was forced to level my gaze now but I felt a hand on my chin and the action brought my eyes back to him.
"C-Can you tell me?" I bit my bottom lip. "Why do you wear a mask?"
There was another pause and I wondered if I had done something wrong again, but he suddenly moved, taking one hand off my waist and the other on my chin and I settled by placing my hands on his broad shoulders.
I was still and patient as he reached for his very mask and time seemed to fall still as he only took it off, my lips went apart as his face revealed bit by bit, and I was suddenly reminded of that night, but this time I was right before this magnificence and before I knew it I was staring into the most ravishing green orbs I have ever seen.
They were like crystals, slightly glassy within and the color was so deep and called to me in ways I can’t explain, they were not as beaming as that night but I could still tell they glowed. I took in his manly features, all visible for me to see...
His silver eyebrow, silver curly lashes, his pointy nose and pale lips, and the crescent blue moon tattoo, small but well crafted on his forehead. I must be dreaming... is this real?
"Because of every century descending the mortal realm my face must remain hidden" he began and as his mouth moved I noticed visible canine fangs, I must be silly because seeing his mouth moved caused a feeling to strike my body. "As a magical being not belonging to other dimensions except here, this mask was what was keeping me connected to the other dimension because my time is limited"
I took in all he said.
"Why don’t you belong to the other dimensions?" I asked, having a hard time concentrating. He was just too gorgeous for my eyes to take in...
"I was born to be connected to this very plane and exist only here" He grabbed the mask and darted his beautiful orbs to it. "Basker got this mask made for me when it was time to start to start my search"
His search for what?
"Spending centuries with it somewhat made it become a part of me" he trailed like he was in deep thought, from this angle I noticed the color swirling in his eyes...
"There’s another reason," he says, bringing his orbs back to me and I was lost in them once again. "Because of you"
I froze.
"M-Me?"
"You’re a different bloodline and your eyes hold power that clashes with my own, that is why that night your life force was almost drained because of the reaction it has to my eyes"
"W-What?"
"But don’t worry, When you were unconscious I sealed that power away... you almost died because you took me off guard"
Is that why? He was angry with me? Because my life was almost drained, because I almost died when I caught him unaware, that explains a lot of things.
And it clearly made it my fault because of my carelessness.

William never believed he would take off his mask right in front of Ava. He didn’t mind spending all of eternity wearing one because there was no need to reveal his face.
But all that seemed to change ever since that night, when he saw her gazing upon him like he was the only being on earth and when she gave me a token of gratitude, a kiss to his mask that would have very well been his flesh... Everything seems to change.
He was angry that night for she wandered and almost got herself killed. Basker gave him this mask before his death as a keepsake, a charm to be able to walk in another dimension that wasn’t his, but it was only the mortal realm where he would find his fairy and also because of the clashing power of the eyes of a fairy, Basker foresaw all of this.
Because of 700 centuries searching for Ava, he has grown accustomed to the mask and it became a part of him... who would have known he would take it off for the very fairy he wore it for.
Did Basker foresee this too?
