SILVER-HEART
Chapter 31: Touch

Chapter 31: Touch

Was that a yes or no? That wasn’t an answer, that was still leaving me in the dark. William remained in that position and like the other times it didn’t feel uncomfortable, I was just okay with it, strangely enough, his aura wasn’t scary right now... it was just soothing? Even though it was dark it was filled with unusual warmth. Ever since Mrs. Potter, I have always thought dark aura belongs to death. That was why the first time I met William I believed he was Death himself, but that didn’t seem to be the case, it was different, HE was different.

It was strange for me but I just let myself give in to the feelings of this unusual comfort from him even though he wasn’t showing any, with his words and everything he remained like a blank emotionless being... I was nervous though because I can’t tell what expression he was making right now and the mask he had on was like a wall between us.

"Why do you wear a mask?"

He leaned away. "Why does everything that comes out of your mouth be a question?"

I wasn’t given much choice, I was randomly thrown into a world I had no idea existed, and I was bound to be curious about everything.

"Now about your punishment"

I suddenly tensed and my heartbeat began pounding again. Does he want to talk about that now?

"You honestly think you would be able to finish that number of books in a month?"

Now I felt like a kid being scolded because of the wrong thing. Did I do the wrong thing?

"T-That was the punishment wasn’t it?"

"Think again Ava"

Suddenly I shivered. Anytime he calls my name it always gives me a funny feeling in my body. I raided my thoughts... Severus clearly told me my punishment was to read all the books on the shelves, that was it, right? But William mentioned something and his words were clearly telling me it wasn’t possible to finish such books in under a month.

"It wasn’t about reading the books"

"You catch on quickly but that is not the complete answer" he began. "You should know knowledge has a limit, you cannot have it all... but there are unwanted beings who think they can pass that limit and beyond. They become greedy for it,"

"I was greedy?"

"No Ava... you were determined" He brushed some hair falling to my face behind my ear in a swift action that felt like it didn’t happen at all. "It wasn’t about just your limit but a way of telling you that if you put your mind to something you wish to obtain you will have it"

"W-Why?"

"Death has always been what is in your mind..."

I stilled at his words.

"There are other things other than thinking about death. Some have love, a future they can look up to, personal likes, a dream, and strong desires, they are many, many of which a soul holds to and keeps themselves intact with it. There are far better things than death"

My eyes trembled at his words and then my lips pressed in a thin line. My punishment was just a facade, just formality. He intends to teach me this in particular by doing so.

So that I would understand that death wasn’t the only thing this world has to offer. In the past month and every day, I engage in reading and try my best to work hard, although it was tough and tiring, it was a wonderful experience. I felt capable, I felt determined, I felt strong and I believed in myself that I could do it.

My lips quivered and before I knew it I broke into tears, hard tears that got me crying out and sobbing, it released from me like it was storing up and I finally got the chance to set them loose and they freed me. Not afraid he would see... it didn’t matter.

I heard William moving but I quickly grabbed his hand and he paused. The number of chills that ran through me when I held his hand was overwhelming and it felt like my body rejuvenated but I was too teary to realize the connection.

William watched me and I could feel his unseen gaze on me and I looked up at him with tears in my eyes and a small smile on my lips.

"Thank you,"

After He said the true meaning behind her punishment, she began crying, it wasn’t his intention to make her cry but he guessed emotions were in overdrive so he intended to leave her alone but the sudden hold on his hand made him pause his actions.

A certain part of him went numb and his senses were shut for a few seconds. The mere contact of her little hand on his... was something he cannot grasp, it caused a sensation to stir within him, an emotion he cannot fathom. Her hands were soft and tender and gave off a warmth that matched his own.

Turning to her as still as the wind, her teary eyes were on him but what caught him off was the small she had on her lips... he hadn’t seen such a smile on her before, something engulfed his chest when he set his orbs on her spread out lips.

What followed was a "Thank you"

William remained in that position just watching her... she was fast asleep now after crying for minutes, even with her closed eyes there were still tears in the corner of her eyes but he could see it and also feel it, she was sleeping soundly.

Her tight grip remained on his hand like she didn’t want to let go even if it was the end of the world. He has much to do, he’s a busy man... but his fairy has a hold on him, an electrifying hold.

Her hands were hot. She ended up stirring her illness with her cries, now she will have to stay in bed more.

’Elvenia’ he said through the designed mind link he has with his three loyal servants.

’Yes master,’

’Prepare a tonic for Ava as soon as she wakes up,’

’As you wish, master’

William continued to watch his fairy all through the night, monitoring the steady sound of her heartbeat and the small breath releasing from her every second.
