Chapter 177: My Greatest Pain And Suffering

Chapter 177: My Greatest Pain And Suffering

If I can mix our aura together I might be able to break out of this barrier and find a portal but I can’t do that until she is strong enough, until I’m 8 months. I don’t like this plan because it means endangering Estel, that is why I have to speak to William about it, he will know a way.

"My star"

I quickly looked in the mirror and found Aldon standing just at the entrance with a smile on his lips. I didn’t even hear him come in. I ignored him proceeding to brush my hair silently praying he would just leave me alone, he makes my skin crawl and each time I look at him my hate for him only grows.

If he thinks I will ever fall in love with him then he must truly be mad.

"Let me help you with that"

There is no way I will let that insane touch man touch me!

I dropped the brush and I sat up abruptly facing him. "There is no need I’m done already"

He smiled only at my words and I gasped when he placed a hand on my bump.

"How is Estel?"

I slapped his hand away, keeping my hard eyes on him. "You have no right to touch her!"

He still kept that insane smile on his lips and I wanted nothing more than to slap it off his face!

"You know sometimes I picture it as our daughter. I tell myself what if it was my seed growing inside of you instead of that fox"

I gulped at his words.

"It would have been so much better wouldn’t it?"

"I would rather die than have your children"

"Oh but you will... when Estel is out of the way I will make sure to secure our bloodline, our parents will be proud, Aveline"

"The same parents you murdered in cold blood?"

He inhaled sharply, stubborn to wipe that sick smile out of his lips. "You must be cooked up inside here, why don’t we take a troll in the gardens?" he said, completely ignoring my words.

"Shall we?" he mused, already walking to the door. "I know you can’t wait to go outside," he taunts.

And I hated how right he is... so pushing my pride aside I gulped following behind him as we both descended the stairs. It felt like I was born anew when I was finally outside, I sighed deeply allowing the air to kiss my skin.

I really needed this... the fresh air and to stare at the skies more clearly, the bright sunlight and the view but I couldn’t appreciate it knowing this was all a mirage and it hurts now... looking at some that was once Aethel.

"Come," Aldon said walking ahead of me and I followed with a stern look.

He led me to one of the glass houses surrounded by flowers in the garden and I noticed the tea and biscuits set on the table. The biscuits were kept in a leaf-shaped tray and the teacups and teapot were silver and had crafted leaf designs on them.

He must have set this up.

"I wanted us to spend some time together, it’s been a while" he muses, drawing a seat out from me. "Don’t ruin the moment by just standing there"

I said nothing, taking my seat and he took his before me. He turned the tea on my cup and then his and I made sure he drank his before going for mine, for I was thirsty.

"What do you want, Aldon?"

"Like I said Aveline, I want us to spend time together"

"How do you expect me to sit here and have this with you when I know what you will do in the pending months?"

"Just don’t think about it..." he shrugged, taking a sip from his tea once again. "...better that way don’t you think?"

"Not only have you corrupt your nature but you have gone mad"

He broke into a peal of laughter. "I love hearing your voice and I love this side of you... it reminds me of our time in the Isle of Pathways, unlike the sweet soft Aveline I knew here in Aethel"

I said nothing as I looked to the side, indulging myself in observing the flowers, for I would do so rather than look at his face like he wasn’t a monster who destroyed our people and cursed William.

"Adina told me you have been sleeping more than usual"

I flinched. But I kept my composure as I darted my eyes at him. "It’s the hormones"

"Ah," he made a sound only. "I just wanted to say, Aveline... don’t do anything that will put you in danger"

"I’m not already in danger? Locked up in the tower and caged in a barrier?"

"So you want to spend more time outside? That can be arranged"

"I want my freedom, Aldon"

"And shall give you that after that thing is out of you and all will be well"

"I do not speak of that, Aldon"

He frowned.

"I do not want to be with you or stay in this graveyard. I want my freedom, something you have taken from me for more centuries than I can count"

"I only want your happiness, Aveline"

"And yet you’re my greatest pain and suffering, you torment my soul Aldon, can’t you see that? Are you that blinded to the point you can’t tell good from bad? Love is not forced upon someone, it is given and earned. One does not curse someone they love"

"That scent" he suddenly said, keeping his hardened gaze on me. "It smells familiar and it lingers"

I subconsciously gripped my gown at the side. Does he smell William on me?

"You’re not just sleeping are you?"

I gulped.

"It seems like Estel is already causing a nuisance between us. Oh I know, I can feel it because the more she grows the more our connection weakens, Which is why I have taken precautions"

"What do you mean?"

"Your tea"

I gasped, leveling my eyes to it, he said he would never poison me, then why do I get the feeling he has done something greater than that?

"Let’s see if sweet Estel will grow when you never sleep again"
