Chapter 162: The Story Of Yin And The Fox Guardian {10}
"What do you mean someone calls to your Dark Grimoire, my liege?" Bartholomew, his royal adviser asked with broad eyes, he couldn’t believe his ears. He knew his Emperor possessed one of the greatest Dark Grimoires in history gifted to him by Basker when he learned everything about magic in the Holy Library.
A parting gift it was called. His Emperor was the first and last magical being who ever set foot in the Holy Library, no one has achieved what he has, which only makes him more great.
"You heard me the first time," Nicklaus said still focusing on the scrolls on the table, but he was having a hard time concentrating because this aura he felt unnerved him, it wasn’t hostile but weak and fading almost like it was dying and yet it sought his Dark Grimoire. Nicklaus knew holding one of the most powerful Grimoires will make him a target for magical creatures who strives for the power he wields, but no one was ever foolish enough to cross paths with him they wouldn’t dare.
And yet ’someone’ dares to?
It unnerved him and now he has lost all concentration on his work.
"What will you do, My liege? This could prove as a threat"
"Well I can just get rid of it, simple, it won’t be hard to trace this aura"
Bartholomew tensed at his words. "Y-You know the Empress doesn’t like it when you act irrational, my liege, perhaps you could figure out why this person decides to call for it?"
"Are you inferring that I act without reason?" Nicklaus said with clenched teeth.
"N-No my liege!" he froze as the air suddenly grew colder, it was already too cold, and the weather didn’t make it any better. He knew he shouldn’t do anything to make the Emperor lose balance with his emotions, the Empress was away on work with the Prince and Princess, and it was already aggravating him.
"Are you perhaps taking out your anger on me because of the Empress’s absence?" he pointed. Because Nicklaus has been acting hostile since this morning and it has never been colder.
"Who else will I take it out on if not you?" Nicklaus said with an indifferent look and Bartholomew gulped at his words. For one Nicklaus has been edgy ever since his wife left this morning, she begged him for a whole week and Nicklaus wanted nothing more than to keep her glued to his side but Yelena is VERY persuasive with her actions, He didn’t know if he was angry about the fact she was absent or because he gave in easily.
One look from those golden eyes of hers can make his slow-beating heart thump and one kiss from her can set his skin on fire.
Firstly he knew this was important to her, only she could handle the workload in the spirit forest and it really needed her attention because it has been neglected for far too long.
Secondly, his children needed to get out more, because of their safety he has kept them in this castle for too long and he doesn’t want them to feel like a prisoner in their own home, another reason why he agreed for them to follow their mother.
Oh how he wished he went too... but being an Emperor was yet another workload, they have made it work for years with the gravity of having one of the largest magical Realms, it would only be futile if they give up now.
That doesn’t mean he didn’t send a whole battalion of soldiers and especially Mint The Silver with them, at least with that he could have a little peace of mind.
"Handle the rest of the disputes," Nicklaus said, already leaving the throne room.
"B-But my liege, where are you going?"
"To sniff out a rat who thought it could just come to my realm and call to what belongs to me"
The large doors slammed shut behind him.
Bartholomew sighed, rubbing his temples, easily Nicklaus would have just sent his guards to trace it, but if the Emperor wants to do this himself that means whoever was calling his Dark Grimoire was someone only the Emperor can handle.

Aveline gasped, opening her eyes and falling to her knees and holding her chest. She tried to steady her unstable breath and was on the way finalizing what she senses. The Dark Grimoire was within the palace, that can’t be good, right? And there was another presence that shook her entire bones and it rivals that of Aldon’s when angry and it doesn’t even compare to William’s who naturally has a dark aura.
This particular was like a definition of pristine darkness, colder than the weather itself and darker than anything she has ever felt, it was almost like her mere life would slip out of her hands.
And the weather got colder too... She shivered at the thought, her cloak did not justice to help with it, and everyone in the town didn’t seem even the slightest bothered by the drastic change of the weather, almost like they were always prepared for the cold.
She suddenly remembered what that kind old lady told her about the Emperor’s moods affecting the weather. That was a powerful power, to be able to shift one’s emotions with the weather.
Forcing her body up Aveline limped out of the corner she hid, she can’t even walk properly anymore, she was too weak now and too cold. Can she hold on much longer? The pain was too much, it felt like her body was about to break into pieces, and it will soon. But she doesn’t know how much effect it will have on her because her lifeline was connected with Aldon.
If she disappears will he disappear too? Or would she just reincarnate again just because of the promise they made to be together for eternity? She can’t have all her answers right now because his journal is yet to be opened. She needs to find a way to get into that palace, how can she? For one she was royalty and she knew how guarded a palace is and it won’t be easy, time wasn’t on her side or else she would have thought of some better plan that might help her.
"Are you lost, girl?"
She froze instantly at the voice and looked up from her leveled gaze to the man who stood before her. She didn’t even sense him!
"N-No" Aveline answered and he smiled, forming a worried look on his face.
"You look pale, is it the cold? You’re not exactly dressed for cold weather" he says.
Aveline knew that and no one needed to tell her, what was her main concern was how his eyes raked her body with hunger.
She gulped instantly taking a step back and she bumped into someone behind and arms wrapped around her.
"Let me go!" she yelled as more men closed in watching her with smirks on their faces.
She thought this place was a peaceful realm!
"Your aura, girl, it smells so good you must be one unique magical creature... and do you know why that entices us vampires?" the man who first approached her said as he closed the distance between them and their faces were inches apart, he leaned further to her ear and said. "Blood"
Terror flooded Aveline’s lungs and suddenly she couldn’t breathe as his fangs dragged on her neck.
"Be quick so that the rest of us can have a taste" the rest chuckled.
"Please no, please!" Aveline tried to move but she couldn’t not by the man’s iron grip.
Aveline squeezed her eyes shut waiting for the worst, and she suddenly imagined crystal green eyes looking at her, at her last moments she only thought of him... William.
There was a pause, a long pause and it was impossibly long because nothing happened after that. Aveline was forced to open her eyes and a gasp left her, the man before her wasn’t just a man now, but a frozen being, and the man who held her behind was in a frozen state too, completely covered in ice, all five of them.
Did they freeze to death?
Suddenly hearing footsteps Aveline paused instantly, at the same sound the frozen bodies moved out of the way and hanged in the air by an unseen force, but Aveline wasn’t even bothered by that, but the godly man that approached her in haunting steps.
Aveline lips parted and her eyes went wide, she had never seen a man so beautiful. Hair dark as midnight itself, long and left to fall over his shoulders but some were held behind by a clip made of gold. Dressed in an attire that only added to his divine handsomeness... which was black leather pants and black riding boots, red linen long-sleeve shirt, and a black robe on top embodied with a red dragon design.
Aveline couldn’t take her eyes off him, right until he stood before her and her neck hurts from titling it backward, he was too tall, like a giant and she felt like a twig he could easily snap, his presence was terrifying and his emotionless look plastered on his features only made it worse, his eyes, oh dear gods his green eyes seemed like they glowed a completely different contrast, it was haunting.
"You shouldn’t wander alone, little one," he said in a deep voice that shook her very bones. "There is danger everywhere"
Then why does it feel like someone greater than danger was standing before her?
