SILVER-HEART
Chapter 141: Lost Existence

Chapter 141: Lost Existence

The sun at its highest peak, reflecting through the windows and into the library holding trillions of shelves and books, like a never ending view of them, reaching through miles and miles, tall and elegant and different from the regular library you have come to know.

Severus arranged some books on the shelves, before taking the ones he needed and walking towards the arbiter’s office, just at a large colorful window bringing forth light rays due to the sunlight.

William Basker Darkmore seated on his chair as he went through mountains of books, but he wasn’t focusing on just the work he had at hand, but a particular one, with a back made of silver, as he wrote against it with his quill.

’It’s been 700 centuries and I have roamed the mortal realm every hundred years, in search of a Fairy, but to no avail. It is either I’m too late or a fairy doesn’t exist in that timeline...’

He darted his eyes at the mask just beside him, a keepsake given to him by Basker as a means of giving him a limited time whenever he went forth to the Mortal Realm. He darted his eyes back to his writing.

’This is a task given to me ever since I could understand words, and it is also a prophecy, a prophecy that says a Fairy Shall Reunite all. In my case my family. I don’t know much about them or what they look like but I hoped to meet them one day. Basker never told me much about them, only saying my Father was a great man and my mother was a creature with the purest of hearts. Basker is no more for a long time now, but I have the company of three servants that I have been acquainted with in the past few centuries.’

Severus dropped some books that needed cataloging on the desk before giving a bow and departing to work.

William’s crystal green eyes lingered on Severus until he disappeared into the line of shelves and then he descended his gaze back on his Journal. One he has used to dictate his life for as long as he could remember. He didn’t exactly know when he started writing down a record of his life, but it brought an unknown peace to him, almost like he could lay down both his worries within this book, not to solve them but keep them down.

It randomly felt like he was speaking to someone.

’Sometimes I feel strange... a lingering feeling but I can’t explain what it is... I feel like there is a part of me missing, a part of me that has been split away from me. The other three acts are strange sometimes. Like Severus who keeps visiting a nonexistent table at the far corner without knowing why, and adding an extra seat at my table. Elvenia on the other hand randomly pauses for a bit and keeps staring at the burning fire in a lost thought, and sometimes cooks too much and keeps it at the dining hall we never use. I wonder why.

Sophia keeps playing in the garden more than usual, especially at a spot close to the pond just on the patio, like she’s convinced that place brings her more comfort. It is odd. Everything feels odd’

He dropped his quill and closed his journal before leaning against the chair in deep thought and closing his eyes for a brief second.

’Even when I close my eyes I see chocolate brown eyes dancing in my dark mind, I hear nonexistent laughter and giggles that stormed my brain, I feel a ghostly touch running through my hair, and a particular scent reaching my nose, almost like it has been branded to my nose. I tried to track it once but it was just like chasing the air into nothingness. Maybe I am losing my mind’

He opened his eyes.

’And when I open my eyes, the touch, smile, and laughter vanishes. I have narrowed it down to just my mind working through imagination, maybe my body doesn’t get tired physically but my mind does, maybe I need a break. Because it has been back and forth to the Mortal realm and working tooth and nail to keep the library in order and create a balance in the world of knowledge...’

He rose to his feet and walked to the window behind, staring at the view through it. Sometimes he just stands like this and stares into the skies. Even at the patio too he would just stare at the goldfish swirling in the water. And in a pause minute, he would look to his side like someone was meant to be there.

In his chambers, he only sat there... staring at his bed almost like he could feel someone there, almost like he could hear a heartbeat. But he doesn’t understand where this was coming from, like a glitch around him, trying to force its way into his mind.

He felt the bed, his palm feeling the texture with a puzzled look on his features. He couldn’t understand it but he wanted to... but it was as if whenever he tried to get to an understanding, his mind just went blank?

Like an emptiness and he kept getting drowned in the darkness that was now surrounding his slow beating heart. A heartbeat that was reducing beat by beat, his heart was close to stopping completely.

"Master" Severus said with worried eyes watching his master’s frame against the chair seated on it, arms on the armrest, his eyes closed.

"Anything?" Elvenia’s worried tone said behind as she approached the scene, but Severus shook his head.

"It’s been three days and he has been like this"

"Is he sleeping?"

"If he were I would have heard a heartbeat wouldn’t I?" He sighed. "It almost like he’s in a Torpor state"

"But he has never gone into that before," Elvenia said puzzled, it was truly strange, seeing her master just seated there with no moment and no heartbeat but only his aura to tell he was alive. Her heart breaks seeing him like this and can only wish that there is something they could do.

"The Heart of the Library and the books here, they are all in the same state, responding to his Torpor state"

"Isn’t that bad?" she asked.

He sighed heavily. "It is, it’s like the place is alive but yet no function at all. The entire library is connected to the master"

"Then it must have something to do with his heart then?"

He nods. "I think so"

And he felt a tug and his gaze leveled on Sophia holding his jacket, her eyes filled with tears and she turned to him, sobbing.

"Will Muster never wake up again?"

Severus didn’t even know what answer he could give for he didn’t have any, he was just as confused at the master’s condition and hoped they could do something for him.

Suddenly William breathed out and opened his eyes causing them to be startled and hugged themselves.

"M-Master?" Severus said just to be sure.

And William raised his eyes to them. "How long have I been asleep?"

"T-Three days," Elvenia said. "Are you alright, Master? We were worried"

William rose to his feet, standing tall in his frame. "I’m sure.. it was just a random thing that occurred," he said not feeling sure of himself.

Everything was just blank?

"Get back to work," he said, walking past them and exiting the library.

"Muster seems strange," Sophia said in a pouting tone and Severus nodded in agreement with sad eyes.

"I no longer hear his heartbeat," Elvenia said with a trembling gaze. "Even if he’s awake his heart no longer beats, why does this feel familiar?" she added with a puzzled look.

☆☆☆

William stared at the bright skies with lost eyes and a blank gaze, the wind blowing through and carrying his long silver hair. He descended his gaze to the view of the forest. His eyes are hollow as he took in its beauty. He was always one to bask in the beauty of this view for this forest holds such unreal scenery but right now he looked at it with emptiness without feeling a single thing.

Not even the wind against his face... nothing, he feels nothing at all. A dryness within him and only filled with the walls of Knowledge and nothing else. He leveled his gaze to his trembling hands, they haven’t stopped their quiver ever since he awoke from his slumber.

Why were they shaking?

Why does he feel so empty?

Knowledge was his filling method but now he doesn’t feel a single thing and it scares him. His heart doesn’t even beat anymore, everything was just...

He fell to his knees, his hands shaking continuously, not having the faintest idea how to stop it nor the hollow feelings that washed upon him like a wave, searing deeper and deeper until he broke.

William Basker Darkmore broke and endless tears streamed down from his eyes and fell right on his shaking palms, falling on their own accord, as he tried to gather what was left of him.

But he can’t.
