Chapter 212: Emotions

The moment he said those words to me, my body stilled, and the realization struck me and my eyes trembled.

"I’m not only worried about your condition" he intoned and my body grew tense. "Yel-"

"He requested for your firstborn son" I cut him off before he could say anymore. "Then we better hope we have a girl", I turned away from him, my breath shaky, gods! I forgot about his bargain with Basker, that must have been the first thought in his head the moment he learned that I’m with child, this was even more alarming, I licked my lips. Yes I pray I have a daughter because if I have a son, Basker will come for him, the mere thought of it got my heartbeat quicken, the thought of parting away from my child.

I knew Basker wasn’t a bad person, but I never understood why he struck that bargain with Nicklaus millennia ago, that Avatar always had something up his sleeve, well if he could hear me now, he should better watch out!

I felt Nicklaus spoon me from behind, his strong arms around me, pressing my body to his naked form. "I won’t let him"

I sighed. "This is Basker Nicklaus, a non-dimensional Avatar said to be the first knowledge and the Library itself, I don’t think there’s a stopping him"

"So you want it to be a girl?" Mathilda said, blinking.

"Yes, a girl would be wonderful, I mean pretty gowns and wonderful parties," I said with a smile.

"Why would you conclude that you want a girl?" Celeste asked.

"Well-" I paused my eyes darted to Mathilda, If I gave Celeste a hint she would understand why... she was part of the people who knew of Nicklaus’ young days but I wasn’t sure about Mathilda, I like her but I don’t think I trust her enough to tell about Nicklaus bargain, gods the bargain! Just thinking about it gives me a headache.

"I assure you, Empress, I don’t have the power to change whatever gender you would be having, your condition is both mysterious and natural, we should just wait," Mathilda said.

I sighed deeply, yes to wait and hope it’s not a boy!

"Let me check you"

I gave my hand to her and she checked my pulse. "You seem normal today, if there’s anything just let me know okay?"

I nodded and she gave a bow before leaving.

"She seems nice"

"Yeah, Sorceress," Celeste huffed.

"Sounds like you don’t like that"

"Well they bolted after the death of the Elders and suddenly came back because Nicklaus came to them rather than reach out," she said with an eye roll.

"Maybe they were just waiting," I shrugged.

She rolled her eyes once again. "Forget about that, why are you suddenly talking about having a girl?"

I shift uncomfortably in my seat.

"I know that look, Yelena, tell me what’s wrong?"

I sighed deeply. "What’s wrong is that I might have my child taken away from me the moment I set my eyes on him," I said, rubbing my belly with a sad look.

It took a moment before the realization struck her. "The bargain with Basker"

I nod.

"W-What did Nicklaus say about it?"

"You know how he is... he said he won’t let Basker take him, that’s if it’s a he and not a she. But this is Basker, it’s not something we can deal with"

"So what happens now?" she asked.

"Now I surely hope I’m blessed with a girl"

"That seems reasonable but how’s Nicklaus dealing with this?"

"I haven’t quite talked with him"

She took my hand. "Both of you need each other the most right now"

"What I need right now is some air and out of these chambers I have been cooked up in for gods know how long," I said, rising to my feet and heading towards the door.

"Yelena wait!"

I grabbed the knob and pushed it apart but met with knighted Vampires guarding my door. I couldn’t even begin to count but I just saw five of them before me. Maybe there were more.

"Empress" they bowed. "Tell us what you need"

"What’s going on? Why are these Knights here?" I asked.

Celeste came behind me. "You’re too fast to act you didn’t let me finish"

"I haven’t even walked out the door ever since, how come I’m being barraged in here?"

She sighed. "Dearest Brother decree"

"What?"

"You’re to stay put in your room Yelena, you are safer here, because of your condition and the potential threat that might still be out here"

"But I cannot be locked in this room forever!" I faced the Knights. "Move away"

They bowed once again. "Forgive us Empress, but we cannot let you leave, the Emperor has fully stated we shouldn’t let you out, if there is anything you need we will be happy to get it for you"

"I said. Get. Out. Of. My. Way" I growled, surprising even me, my fox was growling angrily within me and I couldn’t control it, I can’t be locked in these chambers forever, I want to see my animals or feel the sunlight or anything that didn’t have to do with bed.

"Yelena calm down you’re-"

I snapped, a mixed color aura of silver and black swirled out of me and pushed the five guards off, they slammed the wall and the sound echoed.

Celeste gasped and I did too, covering my mouth. What just happened? I only meant they should move out, but I ended up using magic.

"They are not dead are they?" I said panicking. Celeste was completely stunned. More guards came to the door and blocked me.

"Really?!" I snapped.

Celeste quickly grasped my shoulder and swirled me to face her. "Calm down and breathe"

I didn’t even realize my breath was unstable. "Breathe Yelena, breathe, you will only make it worst, your emotions are making your magic unstable"

"Well, how am I supposed to control it!" I snapped and then it happened again this time it was Celeste who was flung to the wall.

My eyes fell wide and my mouth dropped.

"Bloody hell, how are you doing that?" she cursed breaking free from the wall that clearly was cracked from the impact.

"Oh my- I’m so sorry Celeste if I just get slightly angry I just"

"Shhh it’s okay just..." she was cautious with me. "...calm down and please don’t throw me over again, it’s so..." she paused as she shivered, her mouth giving off cold steam.

"Did you hit me with ice magic?" she shivered, her teeth clattering.

"Did I?"

"What’s going on?"

At the voice, my head snapped as the guards gave way and revealed Alaric. "Lena, are you okay?"

"Don’t come any closer!" I yelled stopping him in his tracks, I didn’t want to hurt him like I did Celeste.

"Okay," He said in a ragged whisper, putting his hands up showing that he wasn’t coming any further, our gaze locked and I seemed to calm as I stared into his green orbs, the purple highlight in it, I concentrated on it and found, security, trust, and understanding, what was all this feeling? They puzzled me.

Celeste’s shiver caught our attention. "What happened to you?" Alaric asked.

"Well The Empress blasted me with a mixed aura, and it bloody cold, cold-like Nicklaus, gods" she shivered.

"I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to," I said almost teary.

"No no, it’s okay, your emotions are acting on your magic you have to control it"

"I’m sorry but I can’t", the ice broke around me out of thin air like sharp spikes.

"Lena calm down you will hurt yourself" he came forth but an extended spike that aimed at his throat stopped him, he gulped before leisurely backing away.

"I can’t control it, it’s just happening," I said in a panicked breath.

"Okay, I understand just-"

The ice broke again covering almost the entire room and Celeste and Alaric were forced to back away.

"It’s getting too much" I shut my eyes, they were mixing with my emotions, something I couldn’t control. Just being scared and sad that I hurt Celeste only increased it, I wanted it to stop, and I felt like I was suffocating.

"Yelena"

I gasped, flashing my eyes open and met with green orbs. Nicklaus was before me out of the blue with a worried expression.

"Please don’t come I don’t-" he was already coming forth and I panicked, shutting my eyes again, I was very certain the ice grew once again.

All I heard were cracks, and snaps, and I only grew more scared, did I hurt him? Please I don’t want to. I shivered when I felt a hand brush the tears streaming down my cheeks and I was forced to my eyes and tilt my head upwards.

"Nicklaus" I muttered with trembling eyes, I was scared that I hurt him but there was not even a scratch on him. "I’m scared"

"Don’t be... I’m right here"

"I hurt Celeste" I shook my head.

"It’s alright my love" he leaned to me and brushed his nose against mine in the tenderest way. My nerves settled.
