Chapter 42: [Volume 2: Prologue!]

[Volume 2: The Looming Danger!]

...

It has almost been a week since the day Noah took the class. And as planned, he had submitted a formal application to become a full time professor within the temple. But different from what he predicted...

(Your application has been rejected)

Is the answer he got in return.

There wasn’t any reason attached to it. Just a letter came to his room today telling him that his application has been rejected without any reason whatsoever.

[Should we try some other institution? While I excel in healing studies the most, I also have a vast knowledge in other fields as well.](Elios)

The Temple of Light here not only was a place for prayers to the Goddess Alepsia, but also held many other important positions within the city. It had the biggest educational university for the students, the biggest hospital within the entire Kingdom and many other facilities along with it.

While Noah mostly ventures outside the temple for one purpose or another, he wasn’t out of touch from what goes within the temple.

The University of Magic and Light is ranked among the top 3 colleges within the entire Light Kingdom, and ranks 5th in the entire world of Zarraf. As such, getting a proper professor job would have secured a lot for Noah here in this world, especially in this kingdom.

"But that application wasn’t so empty that they would reject it without any explanation?"(Noah)

[True, I guess. I wonder what happened. It’s not like we were lacking anything. We even requested a formal teacher examination that even the commoners receive without any problems.](Elios)

-Knock! Knock!

Interrupting them another knock came from the door. And opening the door, they found an unknown priest standing there with a scroll in his hand. He looked at Noah from top to bottom for a few seconds before speaking,

"Acolyte Elios?"

Noah nodded before that priest corrected his glasses and continued,

"You have been summoned by the head priest. Please report immediately."

That priest spoke before passing the scroll to Noah and then leaving away from there without any further ado. Noah looked at the scroll, and then put it in his pocket before moving outside the room and locking it as usual.

He was already preparing to leave so there wasn’t much he needed to prepare. Just the direction changed from Yuna’s office to the head priest’s. And as he walked, he pondered about what could have happened for him to call there.

[Could be the professor application?](Elios)

’I think so too. He must have been the one to reject it as well.’(Noah)

The head priest knew that Noah could use Dark Magic, hence there was a possibility that he would be worried about the students there. Thus, when he got the wind of Noah trying to get into the school, he might have stopped him.

Noah and Elios discussed what other reasons could have been other than this, until they reached the head priest’s office. He had to wait for a few minutes this time before he moved inside the office. Unlike last time, he was alone this time, observing Noah with a keen expression.

On his table there was a name plate.

Markus Vingraes Albert

"Elios Gregory. Do you know why I have summoned you?"(Head Priest, Markus)

"For the application that I have submitted?"(Noah)

"Hmm? What application?"(Head Priest, Markus)

"..."(Noah)

"Well. It seems you do not know."(Head Priest, Markus)

The head priest didn’t seem to know anything about the application, making Noah truly wonder why he was here then. Did he make any form of mistake here? Well, not that he could remember.

"As you may know, I have been keeping an eye on what you do and what you don’t. Both during the night, and also the night. Forgive me for being so blunt but this is what I must do if I want to protect the people from any form of potential dangers. Even if it meant going against the Saintess’ words."(Head Priest, Markus)

The head priest slowly stood up before looking out through the window at the park below where the students were walking around in groups, chatting and enjoying their lives.

He slowly brushed his hands against his long beard before he continued,

"Elios. What do you think about the Dark Mages?"(Head Priest, Markus)

Noah pondered a few minutes before speaking,

"While there are few rare ones like Miss Ameliana, I believe that most fanatics should be eradicated. Those who are willing to sacrifice their own kind for a race that doesn’t even consider them more than insects, those people should be crushed like insects."(Noah)

"Hoho. I didn’t think you would be so fierce about this. But it’s good... at least you understand."(Head Priest, Markus)

He then slowly turned to me, his eyes softening as he smiled at me and then continued,

"You have helped so many in the past 20 days that most priests can’t even do within a year, and many in their entire lives. I was worried what the Dark Mana would do to you, but it seems my worries were hardly important. Also, I have the reports of your night ventures, you have earned quite a name among the dark mages too."(Head Priest, Markus)

The head priest seemed to be enjoying this as he smiled from ear to ear before he spoke to me,

"But we cannot let you do all that work for free for so long, can we?"(Head Priest, Markus)

His gaze changed into a slight smirk before asking me,

"Tell me, Acolyte Elios. Is there anything you desire?"(Head Priest, Markus)

Authority. Money. Power

That’s what Noah needed the most if he wanted to help those children and eradicate all those fucking bastards. But bright now, there was something else he needed right now.

"Last week, I submitted an application to become the Professor of the University of Light and Magic. But it seems that the application has been rejected. Can you do something about it?"(Noah)

Since the head priest was direct, Noah also decided to be the same. It might come off as rude, but based on the head priest’s personality, he seemed to like if one was direct than if he were to beat around the bush.

The head priest, Markus, narrowed his eyes at Noah for a few moments before he asked in a serious voice,

"What did you say?"
