Chapter 220: 【219】Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 70 (Thirteenth Update)
After spending half the afternoon sorting out the seaweed, it was time to go to the beach.
This time, the two sisters didn’t plan to gather seaweed but brought buckets to the beach to look around.
Upon arriving, they discovered that their area’s sea was not very sandy but rather muddy, hence it was called a mudflat.
The mudflat was vast, some parts were coarse with sand, stones, reef rocks, and other debris, while other areas were completely muddy.
The ancient oceans were incredibly clean, barely polluted, presenting a sea that was a vibrant blue, truly beautiful.
Unlike later generations where some areas of the sea are murky with sand-colored water, not resembling the sea at all, but more like a river.
It wasn’t like what she saw here, a blue ocean, utterly enchanting.
Even standing on a reef rock, you could clearly see the underwater scenery of the shallow sea, which made Xiao Yu, someone tainted by modern pollution, feel especially good.
Breathing in the unique scent of the sea, it was almost like returning to Nameless Island.
This beach was usually a mooring spot for fishing boats, only revealing itself during low tide.
Areas close to the harbor were mostly gravel, while farther out were mud pits.
But don’t underestimate these; the shellfish and seafood spread among the gravel and mud pits are quite different.
Sea clams, clams, green clams, blood clams, sea snails, and mud snails mostly live in the mud pits, while Scallops and scallops prefer to dwell in the clear, sandy sea water.
Green mussels, oysters, and various snails all enjoy living on the rocks or seaside reefs.
Understanding their habits made searching for them much easier.
Xiao Yu said to Yaya, "You just look around in those gravel areas, I’ll go over to the mudflat."
Yaya acknowledged with a sound and then squatted down, using specialized tools to rake through the gravel.
Xiao Yu wasn’t to be outdone; she found a spot to squat down in. Despite the variety she mentioned, the actual search was far less fruitful than on the island where she used to live, making her think it’s no wonder this place was once inhabited by humans.
However, even so, there was more variety than in modern times, and as soon as she squat down, she found blood clams, White Clams. With each spot change, she discovered something different, even the sea snails and mud snails came into view.
She was most surprised by the bounty of sea clams; even in the rush of time, she couldn’t care less about the rest and focused on pulling out the sea clams hidden in the mud.
Sea clams and Scallops aren’t the same species but are close relatives from the sea clam family; however, the ones she picked up on the island were Scallops, while the locals here referred to them as sea clams, which looked quite similar. She even thought they were the same kind; sea clams were triangular, and so were Scallops, but their triangle was a bit longer and sharper.
She found several sea clams at almost every short distance, and the clams here were large, making her salivate at the sight.
As she kept pulling, her bucket was filled without her noticing, and the excess she placed on the stones.
It wasn’t until she heard Yaya’s shouting that she realized, imperceptibly, the sky had darkened, and the sea water began to rise.
Yet there she was, still wandering the beach tirelessly, looking at least two buckets worth of sea clams, Xiao Yu was so excited.
Yaya’s catch for the day was also good; she dug up nearly half a bucket of Scallops. When she went to find Xiao Yu, Xiao Yu was still preoccupied with her head down.
"Okay, sister, look, it’s getting dark. We need to hurry back, or very soon we won’t be able to see anything."
But when she turned her head and saw the piled-up sea clams, she was startled, "Oh my god, how did you dig up so many?"
