Chapter 98: Chapter 98
Lance stared at her in a daze until Madeline returned her gaze to the ocean while snacking on her fruit platter.
Her relaxed attitude somewhat infuriated him, because he expected her to act like she did last night.
Vulnerable, loving, and sexy.
Well, she was still sexy, but vulnerable and loving? Not at all.
If everything that happened last night wasn’t just a dream, Lance had just witnessed how fragile and clingy Madeline could be, which almost felt like a fever dream for him.
Lance’s lips thinned as he finally asked, "Why do you act so nonchalant right now? You weren’t like this last night."
"Oh? So, you still remember what happened last night?" Madeline chuckled and pointed at the chair. "Come on, Mr. Grant, we need to talk first."
"It’s Lance for you. Why are you still calling me Mr. Grant?" Lance protested. But he sat down at the breakfast table as requested. "I thought you had forgiven me."
"Forgiven?" Madeline raised one brow. She opened the ginger tea and served it in front of him at the table. "Just because we had sex means you’ve been forgiven?"
"Obviously. You were so into me last night, so why are you acting like you don’t need me now?" Lance protested again. He wasn’t in the mood to play a mind game, so he tried to be as honest and blunt as possible.
Lance sipped the ginger tea, and his body gradually relaxed.
"Ever heard something called pillow talk? Oh, who am I kidding? Of course, you know," Madeline shrugged. She spread the butter on the toast and then served it alongside a banana she chopped into smaller pieces and a sunny-side-up egg.
She put the food in front of Lance, who was still sulking, and added, "Besides, why do you care about it? I’m sure you’ve slept with so many women before me. Our night shouldn’t make a difference, right?"
"Of course it does!" Lance raised his voice out of frustration. But then he realized the devious smile that Madeline put up. So he knew that Madeline must be up to something.
"Tsk, fine." Lance cut the egg in half and ate it. "Tell me what I should do to make you forgive me."
Madeline turned her chair to sit facing Lance and said, "Mr. Grant, I don’t ask for much. I just want a fair and consistent treatment."
"Fair and consistent?" Lance frowned. "If I gave you a mansion, would that suffice?"
"Not that kind of treatment—" Madeline sighed. "Unless I have a huge net worth under my name, giving me that kind of expensive stuff would only make people suspicious that I have a sugar daddy."
"But I am your sugar daddy, aren’t I?" Lance asked while eating the sliced banana.
"Well, yeah, but it would be bad publicity for you and your family to get entangled with me," Madeline said. But then she paused when she realized that was exactly what Lance wanted.
Lance chuckled. "It’s okay, go on. I’m listening."
"What I mean by fair and consistent treatment is to treat me as a business tool... or as a real girlfriend," Madeline said.
Lance stopped eating his fruit and stared at Madeline, who was bold enough to draw that kind of line.
Many women before her would have been more than happy to be favored and pampered by Lance.
Unfortunately, he grew bored with them quickly, and sex wasn’t that amazing after the first time.
That was... until last night, of course.
This woman had such a tight grip on his dick, which made him unable to deny her.
"And what I mean as a business tool is exactly what you did to me during that reality show. You can use me to boost your entertainment company. You can treat me as one of your disposable artists. I don’t mind at all," Madeline said. "I have been in this industry since I was ten. I know how it works."
"But if you want me to be your real girlfriend, then you should treat me as such. I don’t want you to treat me so cold-heartedly," Madeline added. She sounded so professional, as if she were making a simple transaction here, which actually astonished Lance.
Because she clearly looked so naïve last night and the first time they met in his office.
How has she suddenly become so calculating and professional now?
"Is this your way to avenge your bitterness?" Lance asked.
"Perhaps," Madeline replied. Seeing that Lance had finished his toast and was snacking on the sliced banana, she placed the fruit platter on top of his plate and continued, "Here’s how it goes, Mr. Grant. I will still act as your contractual girlfriend, but if you simply want to treat me as your business tool, then I don’t want you to get all possessive over me talking or dating another man, and that includes Zane and possibly other men in the future."
Lance instantly lost all of his good mood, "Do you really love that bastard?"
"No, but I love you," Madeline said firmly.
"Bullshit! How come you’re giving me this kind of choice?!" Lance asked frustratedly. "Why are you making a business deal with me when our hearts are involved?"
"Because I’m not even sure if you can love me back. I’ve gained some clarity after last night and realized I am really in love with you," Madeline said. "But my experience with Jonathan Hale taught me that a man like you can’t be trusted."
"Besides, YOU are the one who started this whole business deal, so I’m just making sure we’re on the same page," Madeline said. "And about sex... I find you amazing, Mr. Grant. We can keep this business deal while having a physical relationship, at least until I find another man I want to date for real."
Lance was absolutely speechless at how Madeline basically gave him his own medicine.
True, he was the one who asked her to be his contractual girlfriend. It was indeed a mere business deal for him, but he led her to think they had something else going on because it would benefit him more if Madeline utterly loved and was devoted to him.
And now that she had turned the table, could he stay as a mere business partner with Madeline Rose?
