Madeline returned to the bedroom area, as this presidential suite had two separate sections: the living room and the bedroom.

Lance stared at Madeline, who didn’t spare him a glance after that. She shut the bedroom door, and though the door had no lock, it was obvious that Madeline didn’t want Lance to come in.

Lance sat on the couch in silence. He was dazed, as it was difficult for him to process all of these new feelings that he had never experienced in his heart.

Seeing Madeline hurt over what he had done devastated him. All this time, he only considered his personal interests and did not think about what she’d think of his actions.

He tricked Madeline into that reality show to embarrass her in front of the camera. If he was lucky enough, she would probably break down and act like an idiot, boosting her infamy as she became the nation’s laughing stock and brought him millions of dollars in profit.

After all, he truly thought that Madeline was just a naive, stupid girl who wouldn’t be able to do anything.

But he was wrong.

She made the reality show ten times more entertaining than he expected.

"No, I’m fine," Madeline replied. "The shoot ended early because I lost. But I get my fair payment."

"Oh, that’s good..." Nathan replied. "Don’t worry. I’m doing fine here."

After that, another round of silence between them made the phone call uncomfortable. Madeline knew that holding a conversation with her little brother was almost impossible.

Because they hadn’t had any long conversations for a long time, their conversations usually ended with a fight or a door slam. So it felt weird now that they were on a better term... somewhat.

"I’ll fly back to Los Angeles tomorrow morning, so I’ll be home in about two days," Madeline said.

"... Don’t die," Nathan said.

"I won’t," Madeline giggled. "Not when my cute little brother is waiting for me."

"I—I’m fifteen!"

Madeline’s giggle turned into a chuckle as she was happy that she could tease her brother again. It had been a while since she had a harmless banter with Nathan.

"Well, at least despite all the shits happening right now with Lance, I get to have a better relationship with my brother and pay my mother’s medical bills upfront," Madeline murmured.

She was, in no way, ungrateful for what Lance had done for her.

But she was just too angry and disappointed when he betrayed her. She also didn’t understand his confusing nature.

If he wanted to treat her as a business, so be it. She grew up in the entertainment industry, where all artists are replaceable and are all tools to make money.

She was ready to be a tool, as long as she got the money.

But he got strangely possessive towards her, even though she had already tried her best to extinguish the flames of desire in her heart.

He sabotaged the reality show that he already rigged in the first place, and that only frustrated her because it just showed how easy it was for Lance to control her life. Madeline sighed. She lay on the bed for a while, scrolling mindlessly through her phone, until she decided to take a bath.

Madeline stripped off her dress and entered the bathroom naked.

She prepared the warm water and the bubbles for the bathtub while brushing her teeth.

Once the water was enough, she dipped in and rested her head.

Madeline stared at the bathroom ceiling, thinking of everything that had happened that day, and she felt agitated at Lance again.

But once that agitation slowly died down, there was a trace of guilt in her heart.

She was angry at him, but she wouldn’t discredit all the help he gave her.

On top of that, Lance could have slapped her when she lashed out. But he stayed silent, staring at her with that dejected look as if his heart had been broken.

Madeline closed her eyes and slowly submerged half of her face underwater.

Madeline thought forgiving a man like Lance was too early.

In Madeline’s mind, Lance was no better than Jon. They led her to think she was safe, only to betray her later.
