Chapter 89: Chapter 89

"Madeline, wait!" Valerie rushed to catch up with Madeline, who didn’t even look back to check on the producer.

Valerie huffed as she finally caught up to Madeline. "W—Wait, no need to rush."

Madeline didn’t stop, but she slowed her steps, allowing Valerie to take a breath before they could walk side by side.

Valerie checked on Madeline, who didn’t have an ounce of joy in her eyes.

"I’m sorry that I can’t stop him from coming in. He’s the investor in this reality show. But... you should know he is here because he’s worried," Valerie said.

"What is he worried about? He’s the one who sent me in here, breaking his promise and expecting me to fail in this reality show. He even went as far as putting a tapping device in my bungalow," Madeline said coldly. "He should’ve stayed in Los Angeles, watching from afar and laughing at my misfortune, because that seems to be what he planned before."

Valerie couldn’t refute that because it was the truth.

She still didn’t understand why Lance would be so cruel to a woman he loved, but he did expect Madeline to embarrass herself in this reality show.

He expected Madeline to make a huge reaction to propel the reality show rating and her infamy.

But at the same time, Valerie could also feel Lance’s regret. He was truly stressed and angry, probably blaming himself for putting Madeline into this.

"I have no intention to stop him from coming either. I know your position, and I know mine," Madeline said. "But why would he need to come during the final? If he’s smart enough, he should’ve known better not to cause a ruckus during a final episode."

"On top of that, why would he need to punch Zane like that?" Madeline muttered. "He’s a good man. He doesn’t deserve to get humiliated like that."

"Are you... in love with Zane?" Valerie asked bluntly. "I thought he was just your TV boyfriend."

"I don’t think it’s love. At least not to the extent that I feel with Lance. But I am grateful for his help and care about him," Madeline replied. She glanced to her left and right and realized the staff gossiped about her. They must’ve had a glimpse of her relationship with Zane and Lance.

However, Madeline predicted that everyone would blame her for leading them on.

After all, she was the bitch and the villain in every situation.

Valerie realized what Madeline had in mind and assured her, "Don’t worry about the staff. I will make sure to keep them shut."

"Thanks, Valerie," Madeline smiled thin. She ignored all the piercing stares from all the staff that she passed and paced through the bungalow area with Valerie.

She halted her step in front of Zane’s bungalow, and right at that moment, Zane kicked the door open, ready to leave with his luggage.

Madeline froze when their eyes met, and she felt extremely guilty when she saw the bruise on his cheek, proof that Lance had punched him so hard.

They stared at each other silently until Madeline took a step forward and tried to reach his wound. "I’ll get a first aid kit from the staff. You wait in here, alright?"

Zane allowed Madeline to touch his cheek for a moment, silently feeling the touch of the woman he loved.

But he couldn’t indulge in this.

He knew that he would be deprived of her touch for a long time since that bastard Lancelot Grant was hogging Madeline all for himself.

Thus, he tried to suppress his desire and grabbed Madeline’s wrist and said "I don’t need your pity, Madeline."

Madeline went silent for a moment. True, all she felt for Zane right now was pity and guilt. So she couldn’t defend herself.

But that didn’t mean she didn’t care for him.

She truly cared because Zane was the only man who was genuinely nice to her.

"Can I get your number instead?" Madeline asked. "We—we can still be friends, right?"

"Madeline," Valerie called her name, warning Madeline not to cross the line and enrage Lance again.

But Zane also had no intention of staying in contact anyway, not when he would continuously crave more from her.

"We can’t be friends, Madeline. Because what I feel for you is not just a friend," Zane stated loud and clear. "I love you, and don’t take friendship as an answer."

"Zane..."

"Until we meet again, Madeline," Zane said before dragging his suitcase and left.

Madeline stared at his back, and her eyes were pooling with tears.

She really did look like a woman who was forced to be separated from her boyfriend.

"Madeline, are you sure you’re not in love with Zane?" Valerie repeated her question. "I’m sorry, but I think my eyes are tricking me right now."

Madeline shook her head. She wiped her tears and replied, "I told you. I don’t like him the same way I like Lance. But there is this empty feeling. I feel guilty and sad as if I’ve lost someone so precious..."

Valerie escorted Madeline to her bungalow and left her alone. She wanted to check on Lance, who was still at the private beach.

Madeline entered the bungalow and was hugged by Jasmin, who was worried and sick.

"Maddy, you—are you okay?" Jasmin asked. "They didn’t hurt you, right?"

"I’m alright," Madeline said weakly. "But not with Zane..."

"Oh, girl..." Jasmin knew shit would go down the moment Lancelot Grant entered the private beach.

It was obvious that both Lance and Zane were so possessive towards Madeline.

She just didn’t expect them to fight right there when the filming of the final episode wasn’t over yet.

Jasmin released her hug and said, "I’m sorry that I can’t do anything to help you at the beach. Do you want the prize money? Maybe that will cheer you up a little."

"No, that’s yours," Madeline said as she took off her bikini and wore a white summer dress. "I told you that you will win this game."
