Chapter 83: Chapter 83

"Ooo~ Spooky~," Madeline giggled. "I wonder what you will do next, Bertha. Are you going to spread a rumor that I slept with every boy in the basketball club again? Or maybe a rumor that I’m pregnant at ten and secretly abort my baby at eleven?"

Madeline ignored the camera that had been following her and glared back at Bertha. "You dumb bitch. Just because your life is miserable doesn’t mean I have to be miserable, too."

After Bertha left, Zane and Jasmin walked out of the room simultaneously. Jasmin hugged Madeline tightly and said, "Thank you for saving me, girl!"

"Y—You’re choking me, J—Jasmin—"

"Oh, sorry," Jasmin said, releasing her hug. But she held Madeline’s hand and said, "I can’t believe we will be in the final together!"

"As enemies," Madeline giggled, but she felt relief knowing her friend would defeat her rather than Bertha or Elly.

Madeline looked at Zane, who said nothing but was still in a bad mood after last night. So she gently held his hand, which made Zane jolt out of nervousness and awkwardness. "W—What?"

"Thanks for saving my friend, Zane," Madeline said. She leaned forward and hugged him. "I know I can count on you."

Zane took a deep breath as he was trying to compose himself. Though upset, he was still a professional in front of the camera. So he hugged her back and kissed her head. "I will do anything for you, babe. Just say what you want, and I will make it happen."

"Aww, you two are so good together," Jasmin squealed. She looked around, trying to find Russel because he would be her partner for the final. Unfortunately, that scrawny man was nowhere to be found.

"Where are you right now?" Valerie asked as she had a video call with Lance.

"On the plane," Lance replied curtly. He massaged his temple as he was exhausted. "I’m using the in-flight Wi-Fi, but the connection is horrible."

"And where are you going?" Valerie peered suspiciously. "You’re not flying to Bali, are you?"

Lance grinned at her. "What if it’s a yes?"

"You—Lancelot Atlas Grant!" Valerie got an instant headache thinking about the upcoming drama between Lance and his girlfriend. "You’re going to make my head explode!"

"You’re overreacting," Lance said lightly. "I just want to retrieve my girlfriend. Nothing else. You can continue your little reality show after Madeline returns to Los Angeles with me."

"Your girlfriend is the star of the show!" Valerie yelled. "Besides, YOU are the one who overreacts. Why are you angry just because they had a quick kiss during their date?"

"Quick kiss? They were eating each other’s faces like some goddamn horny animals!" Lance yelled back. He already booked the entire first-class suite for this flight. So he didn’t need to worry about someone other than the flight attendants listening to his conversation with Valerie. "And why are you allowing it to happen? You could’ve just told them to hold hands or whatever. Are you intentionally trying to get them together?"

"Then it’s not a date. Come on, Lance," Valerie complained. "If I want to get them together, I’d let them have that honeymoon bungalow. I did everything that you told me to. Stop trying to make my job harder!"

"Don’t worry. Once I’m there, I will drag my woman back with me to Los Angeles, and you don’t need to worry about this problem anymore," Lance said coldly. "I also won’t cut my funding once I have her back."

"You might as well do it because you already ruined the show!"

Lance’s nonsensical action vexed Valerie. He was the one who put Madeline into this, and he was heartless enough to trick her into believing that everything would be just fine.

But now that Madeline used her brain and found a way to win in each game, he got angry.

"I don’t have time to listen to your mindless rambling, Valerie. I had a terrible day having to handle all the work and investor meetings in my office and then directly fly to Bali," Lance said. "I haven’t slept since yesterday."

Valerie thought it would take more time for Lance to be done with whatever drama he had with his big brother, but it seemed even his drama with his brother wasn’t enough to stop him from coming to Bali.

Ultimately, Valerie could only sigh, lamenting about her fate because she had to deal with her cousin’s antics.

"Fine, you can come here. But I demand you not to interfere during the last day of the competition. This is my only wish, Lance."

"As long as they don’t start fucking in front of me, then I won’t interrupt. If that’s the answer you want," Lance said before he ended the video call.

Lance threw himself on the bed in this first-class suite. He booked a plane with a private bed for the first class because he really needed that sleep.

But each time he tried to close his eyes, he got the image of Madeline and that bastard smooching at the Gate of Heaven in Bali. They looked so good together that it became a disturbing image for Lance.

He knew the risk of leaving the company in such a dire situation. His big brother would use it to criticize him and make it a ’proof’ of his ineptitude and laziness.

But Lance was seething with jealousy to the point that he couldn’t help it anymore and decided to leave his office for a few days just to retrieve Madeline from that god-forsaken resort.

"I can’t let my property keep kissing other men. She is mine until I get bored with her," Lance told himself. "And that bastard, Zane Eastwood, needs to back off before I destroy his career."

Lance checked the in-flight map and realized it would take more than twenty hours to reach his destination. So he tried to close his eyes, hoping that the cursed image of Madeline smooching another man would be out of his mind by the time he woke up.
