Chapter 75: Chapter 75
"Let’s talk, Madeline Rose."
The warm temperature between Madeline and Zane dropped instantly when Valerie joined in.
Zane didn’t have a good look at the Producer because she obviously tried to sabotage Madeline by putting those hidden cameras around the bungalow.
He also wondered if this woman was working with Madeline’s boyfriend.
Zane didn’t know much about the conglomerates, but he vaguely knew that the Grant family was like the current era’s Rockefeller, and the Phoenix Gray family was closely linked to them.
Nevertheless, Zane didn’t plan to let this woman suppress or intimidate Madeline.
"Look who’s here," Zane scoffed. "I don’t think a producer is allowed just to come in and talk with the contestants, right?"
Valerie glanced at Zane, who was obviously hostile towards her. They had a somewhat good business relationship prior to this reality show, as Zane and Valerie had worked in one indie film together when Zane was still a young, inexperienced actor; that’s why she didn’t think twice about accepting his offer to replace the last cast member who couldn’t come.
It seemed Madeline’s beauty had bewitched Zane. But it wasn’t surprising because Madeline could also bewitch her cousin, the infamous playboy Lancelot Grant.
"What do you want, Valerie?" Zane asked.
"It’s Miss Phoenix Gray for you," Valerie said. "I’m here to talk with Madeline. You can leave now, Zane."
"What if I refuse?"
"Then you should know this is between me, Madeline, and her boyfriend," Valerie warned. "Trust me. You don’t want to mess around with her boyfriend."
Zane was about to argue with her, but Madeline grabbed his arm and clenched it.
"It’s not worth it, Zane. Go back now," Madeline instructed.
"But—"
"This is for your safety as well," Madeline insisted. She knew Zane was globally famous, so she didn’t want him to risk his career for a stupid cause.
Zane saw that Madeline wouldn’t take no for an answer. He clenched his fist but said nothing while he stood up and walked away.
"He’s too possessive for a TV boyfriend, right?" Valerie commented while she sat on the stool next to Madeline.
She ordered a Whisky Sour from the bartender and leaned on the bar counter, prepping her cheek with her hand while staring at Madeline, who was on guard.
Valerie chuckled and said, "I won’t bite, Madeline. I’m here to talk frankly about you and Lance."
"Should we talk about how you keep trying to put hidden cameras in my bungalow and that honeymoon bungalow? I don’t know if it’s your idea or the other staff. But that’s so fucked up," Madeline said.
"That’s Lance’s idea," Valerie replied. "He told me to set up those cameras and audio-taping devices because he wants to ensure you won’t do anything with Zane behind his back. So I did what he said. He’s the investor, after all."
"And you can’t refuse?"
"I can’t," Valerie said. Her thin smile dissipated. She frowned after being reminded of how little freedom she had working with Lance.
Valerie sighed. She took off her glasses and sipped on her drink to relax. She came here to talk about the tumultuous relationship between Madeline and her cousin.
"And how about the no-water rule that Lance said before? Was it part of his plan to trick me as well?"
"Yes," Valerie confirmed again. "I don’t know how close you are to him. But as his girlfriend, you should’ve known that Lance is an asshole. He’s a businessman more than a lover of all of his previous flings. He knows he’ll get an amazing reaction from you in this reality show if you don’t expect what’s coming."
"So he tricked me into it," Madeline sneered. "And he got angry at me when I used another man to get the job done. What kind of bullshit is that?"
Valerie didn’t expect Madeline to be so upfront about her complaint to Lance. The woman before Madeline was too scared to say anything to him, let alone to oppose him.
But what truly shocked Valerie was how that man folded when Madeline threatened to never speak to him anymore.
"Do you know, sometimes I wonder if he ever falls in love with any of his girlfriends," Valerie mentioned. "Most of the time, he just wants to fuck around without caring for his woman’s heart. He’s the worst out of the Grant brothers, definitely not as kind and loyal as his father."
"But I think you might be his first love," Valerie said. She paused for a moment, staring at Madeline, and chuckled. "I guess it’s obvious why. I’d fall in love with you too if I’m into women."
"Can you cut to the chase? Why are you here, and what do you want to talk about?" Madeline asked impatiently.
"Relax. I’m also having a headache because of you two," Valerie sighed. "Let me ask you one thing first. Did you fuck Zane Eastwood in that honeymoon bungalow?"
Madeline’s heart jumped.
"W—Why would you need to know?"
"Because I don’t know how to face Lance’s anger if you actually did sleep with Zane," Valerie said. "He’s so pissed, I don’t even want to meet him right now."
Madeline sneered, "If he’s so pissed, he shouldn’t have sent his girlfriend into another man’s hand. He’s shooting himself on his feet."
"I’m honestly impressed by how bold... or stupid you are, Madeline. I don’t want to face him when he’s angry, so he’s your problem after this show ends," Valerie said. "Now, answer me, did you sleep with Zane Eastwood?"
Madeline wanted to say yes because she wanted Lance to know how big of a mistake he had made by playing her dirty like this.
But looking at the distressed Valerie, Madeline didn’t have the heart to make her life harder. After all, Valerie said that she was under Lance’s control. It wasn’t fair for her if Madeline dragged her into this petty drama.
So, she took a deep breath and replied, "No, I didn’t sleep with Zane Eastwood."
