Chapter 68: Chapter 68

Madeline picked up the plastic tube and took out the clue.

She tried to merge the map, and though the map was still incomplete, she could read another word.

No.

So combined, it was just—

No Evil.

"Yeah, that totally helps." Madeline rolled her eyes. She looked at the back of the clue and saw a scary image of a human with a snake on her lower body, akin to Medusa.

And at the bottom, there was another clue.

’Go to the snake den next. Follow the signpost.’

"Alright, I get it," Madeline put the clues in her pocket, and before she left, she observed the megabats who were still eating the papaya, and she grinned mischievously as she just got a fun idea to manipulate this clue.

She knew she couldn’t just take out all the unripe papaya because she’d get disqualified.

’But there’s no saying that I can’t just take out the megabats instead.’ Madeline looked around and saw a banana tree not far from her. She decided to pick four bananas and then peeled them off one by one.

She didn’t know much about megabats but knew they didn’t bite as their main diet consisted of only fruits.

Thus, shedding off her fear, she dangled the bananas in front of each megabat and picked them from the papaya tree.

She moved the megabats to the banana tree one by one and let them eat the banana instead of the papaya.

"Hihi, I wish I could see Bertha’s frustrated face because she can’t find a clue about the megabats and papaya."

The cameraman watched Madeline walk out of the crime scene like she hadn’t just turned a simple puzzle into a difficult one.

It was heinous, but also very ingenious.

Madeline went to the second puzzle inside a snake den, where there were a few big snakes in cages, an artificial swamp, and a few tree snakes on the tall branch.

A few snake charmers were sitting around. Usually, they would wait for customers who wanted to take a picture with the snakes.

’But this place should be closed today, right?’ Madeline wondered as she looked around and found no other tourists. ’So what’s the point of these snake charmers working today if they won’t get any customers?’

Madeline knew these snake charmers must have a connection with the riddle.

Thus, she tried to talk to one of them in English. "Hello, are you guys part of the game?"

...

There was no answer from any of the charmers. She frowned and guessed their silence must also be part of the game.

This was a heavily touristic area, so these charmers should be able to understand and speak English, even with a thick Indonesian accent.

She walked to one of them and patted his shoulder. "Hello, excuse me."

...

Again, no response. They simply ignored her.

"Okay, there’s no point in talking to any of you then," Madeline said as she shifted her attention to the snakes in the cage.

She checked the clue again and paid attention to the Medusa-like character. The girl’s face was unremarkable, but she noticed that the girl had red hair and a red snake tail.

The snake’s tail also had a very faint black stripe. It was so faint that Madeline had to squint just to make sure it wasn’t a smudge.

On top of that, there was a T and a K on her forehead.

It was strange, but she knew these T and K meant something.

"First of all, it’s definitely about a red snake with a thin black stripe. I need to find a red snake first."

Madeline looked at each snake and found a few red snakes with very thin black stripes that fit her category.

"Next, the T and K on her head must be a name, an initial..." Madeline mumbled. She checked each red snake, and her eyes widened when she found the one that matched the description. "Found you!"

It was a red snake with thin black stripes called the Tioman Kukri Snake.

The moment she got the right snake, a snake charmer approached her and asked with a thick Indonesian accent, "Miss, do you want to take a picture with a snake? It will be free for you."

"I want to take a picture with this one!" Madeline pointed at the snake.

The snake charmer smiled and opened the glass cage. Madeline had no fear of the snake because there was no way the staff would give her a venomous snake.

"Where do you want this snake to be placed?" the snake charmer asked.

Madeline knew this was meant to be a reference to Medusa. So there was only one place suitable for it.

She pointed at the top of her head and said, "Here!"

The snake charmer put the red snake on top of Madeline’s head.

The snake didn’t seem to be bothered. It slithered around her head, and Madeline posed so naturally, like a model having a photoshoot.

Blitz! Snap!

The cameraman was awed by the photo result. It could be used as a real cover for Vogue!

"Did I get it right?" Madeline asked.

"Yes, Miss," the snake charmer smiled. He took the third clue from his pocket and handed it to Madeline.

"Yes!" Madeline excitedly accepted the clue. She wanted to jump to celebrate the success of her second riddle. But she realized that she was still in her bitchy persona, so she shrugged and said, "Take this thing out of my head."

"Yes, Miss," the snake charmer said, putting the snake back into its cage.

She looked around the snake cages and realized there was no hindrance on her part. She really thought it would be harder because the previous contestant should’ve put something to make the puzzle harder.

Since the snake charmer could speak now, she asked, "Who’s the first girl who comes here?"

"It’s a black lady, very tall, and has locks," the snake charmer explained.

’Jasmin, huh?’ Madeline giggled. "Did she do anything after she got her clue?"

"No, she just left," the snake charmer replied.

"Oh, hahaha! Of course, she won’t manipulate the game," Madeline laughed. "She’s not an evil woman."

She had already talked with Jasmin a few times about how they should sabotage the other cast members, but Jasmin had actually refused to do so because she was a good sport.

Despite her snarky remarks and her brash attitude at times, Jasmin was probably the most honest person Madeline ever met.

So, it was obvious that Jasmin wouldn’t stoop so low to make the game harder for the next challenger.

"But I’m not Jasmin," Madeline grinned mischievously.
