Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Unfortunately, before she could say anything, the host of the show, Tia Allen, came to the poolside and started the first episode of the show with a loud voice: "Okay, everyone, gather up. We’re going to start now!"
The entire cast received instructions to sit on a long, round chair near the pool bar.
Madeline and Jasmin were already sitting there with their Pina colada, and Zane quickly sat next to Madeline, trying to get her attention even though she didn’t want to have anything to do with this man.
Tia stood in front of them, wearing her bright smile to match her bright yellow summer dress.
"Welcome to Summer Heat Lovers, where you can enjoy this beautiful paradise in Bali and have a chance to find that one true love. On top of that, you can win a one million dollar cash prize! Whooo!"
The cast members clapped upon cue, though they were not as excited as Tia because their mood had been dampened by Madeline’s attitude just now.
"The rules are simple; each week, there will be a fun mini-game where you will compete with your partner, and the winning team will be granted a chance to have a date in many beautiful spots in Bali or even a yacht! Remember, you can only ’go’ for it while you’re on a date. If you did it outside of your reward date, you will be disqualified," Tia winked, and all the cast members knew well enough what she meant.
"But that’s not the only benefit for the winning team." Tia paused for a moment to build up the tension. She grinned as she was ready for the big reveal, "The winning team will be able to eliminate one male and one female after their date! So all of you will have a week to beg the winning team not to get eliminated."
Everyone gasped when they knew the elimination would go like that.
Most of them thought the one who would eliminate was the producer.
It turns out everything was in the hands of the winning team.
So, picking the right partner was the key to victory.
"Can we switch partners for every game?" Jasmin asked.
"Sure!" Tia replied. "You can always switch partners for the next game."
"Well, that doesn’t matter for us anyway," Madeline told Jasmin. "We’re going to be together for the entire show because I won’t team up with these conniving snakes."
"Speak to yourself, Madeline. You are the snake here," Elly said. "I can’t wait to kick you out of the show so everyone will be at peace."
Madeline glanced at Elly and grinned. "With your noodle arms? Can you?"
Elly gritted her teeth.
Tia sensed a fight might break out soon, which was great for the competition!
"Okay, let’s go to the pool and see our first game!" Tia instructed.
Madeline walked to the pool with Jasmin after finishing her Pina colada.
Madeline felt a bad omen when she saw a net and a volleyball in the middle of the infinity pool.
It was obvious what they wanted to do.
But she didn’t want to believe it because Lance promised her there would be no swimming or anything with water during the set because it would ruin her makeup.
Tia turned around and announced excitedly, "Welcome to your first game! We will have a 4 versus 4 pool volleyball and a 2 versus 2 for the winning team. The first team to hit fifteen points will win the game!"
"Oh no, I’m not that good at sports..." Bertha muttered, while Elly simply clicked her tongue annoyedly.
Madeline wasn’t that good at sports either, but she wasn’t the worst. Since she played in the theater when she was young, she was naturally good at dancing, so her core strength was amazing.
But that wasn’t the point...
Madeline stared at the pool, and her stomach was churning, just imagining her makeup getting washed up entirely or her face getting hit with the volleyball.
She had already promised Lance not to show her bare face in front of the camera. ’But why should I care about what Lance thought? He is the one who lied to me, all just for the sake of cheap reality show entertainment.’
There was a raging building inside Madeline. She felt betrayed. She also felt foolish because she genuinely thought Lance had good intentions.
’I should’ve known these men aren’t going to go easy on me,’ Madeline sneered.
Nevertheless, she knew better that she shouldn’t jump into that pool, at least not with waterproof makeup, because it would ruin people’s bad fantasy of the hateful and shameless Madeline Rose.
’Wait, do I even bring my waterproof makeup?’ Madeline tried to recall everything in her makeup pouch and realized she hadn’t brought the waterproof ones because she thought Lance would be true to his words.
"Nice, we got this, hon!" Ethan said while hugging his husband, Frankie. "You’re great with sports, right?"
"Hehe, we will team up and win in no time," Frankie said arrogantly.
"Hold up. Who said you two can pair up?" Tia said.
"Huh? What do you mean? We are a married couple. Of course, we will team up!" Ethan stated.
"Non, non, darling," Tia said, shaking her head. "In this show, you cannot pair with the same gender. I don’t care if you’re married or not. You need to pair up with the ladies."
"WHAT!?" Ethan and Frankie reacted at the same time. "That’s fucking stupid! We’re literally married!"
"A rule is still a rule," Tia shrugged.
"Damn it," Jasmin muttered. She nudged Madeline with her elbow. "Did you hear that? We cannot pair up."
"I heard it." Madeline said, biting her lower lip. She thought she had scored a good team with Jasmin, but Lance just had to ruin everything she planned for entertainment.
While Ethan and Frankie were throwing tantrums, Madeline finally asked, "So, how are we going to get our partner? Will you pick it for us?"
"Why should I? Of course, it’s free for all." Tia smiled mischievously as she knew Madeline would provide exciting entertainment for them all. "You have to pick your partner, and the last ones without a partner will be paired up."
