Chapter 40: Chapter 40

"D—Don’t be so harsh on her. Madeline is probably tired after a long day, right?" Another woman tried to defend Madeline, even though she didn’t need one.

She also wasn’t interested in befriending the woman who defended her just now because this woman was a slimy snake that Madeline had known since they were kids.

Bertha Marsh.

Bertha approached Madeline and Jasmin. She smiled at them and stretched her hand for a handshake. "It’s been a while since we met, right, Maddy? How have you been?"

Madeline was far from amused, knowing Bertha was on this reality show. This bitch was her child singer rival when they were kids, but they could never be friends because Bertha was constantly trying to sabotage her in any way, including spreading fake rumors that Madeline was trying to bully her out of the singing industry.

She also spread a fake rumor that Madeline wasn’t a virgin, and they were only ten at that time!

She might’ve changed after more than a decade had passed, especially after her singing career flopped.

But Madeline had so much distrust for this girl that she didn’t accept a handshake from Bertha.

Madeline crossed her arms and said, "No, I’m just tired after a long flight. Why would I spend my precious sleep time playing with a bunch of washed-up losers?"

Bertha and Elly gasped, and the two men who had been trying to ignore Madeline finally couldn’t stand still.

"Watch your mouth, Madeline Rose. Compared to any of us, you have the worst scandal."

"Yeah, so shut up before I wipe that caked foundation off your face!"

Frankie and Ethan Kennedy said this while walking towards her. They were a gay married couple who were tech and beauty gurus, respectively; they were quite popular on YouTube.

But just like any other YouTube channel, their channels died down eventually, so they were here for more clout to revive their dying YouTube careers.

"Wow, wow, I didn’t expect you to be so thorny. Got it? Thorny? You’re a rose and tee-horny, Hahah!" Russel Brooks, a stand-up comedian, suddenly barged in, trying to defuse the situation with his bad jokes.

But that didn’t help at all. Everyone was on edge because Madeline dared to call all of them ’washed-up losers.’

It stung so badly because what she said was true.

All of them were basically washed-up losers who tried to regain relevance by joining a reality show.

They all ganged up on Madeline and Jasmin, but they didn’t show any kind of fear, especially Madeline, who simply rolled her eyes. "What is this? Are your teeny-weeny feelings hurt just because I said the truth? All of you are irrelevant losers who tried to get some clouts in this place. What’s there to hide?"

"You—!" Elly was the first one to clench her fist, ready to punch this bitch.

But she didn’t want to get eliminated. There was a rule of no violence, so she could only jab back with an insult, "But how about you, Madeline Snake? Do you think you’re holier than all of us?"

"No, I’m a shameless snake, yes. I’m a homewrecker and a mistress for Jonathan Hale before. What’s there to hide? I’m sure all of you are parts of the online haters anyway."

Everyone went silent when Madeline called them out.

It was true. They all talked shit about Madeline and Jasmin when they had a party last night. They were planning to single out and ignore these two black sheep and eliminate them as soon as possible.

But they didn’t expect Madeline to be so blunt, so all attention was on her.

Madeline realized all the cameras surrounding them. She was probably going to be the headline of the first episode just by looking at this.

So, she decided to double it down.

"Anyway, all of you don’t matter to me. I’m going to win whatever contest this is."

"Because you’re trying to get some clout, right?" Elly sneered. "Come on now. We both know your career was done after your scandal came up."

"I’m sure you’ve seen the viral photos of me shopping on Rodeo Drive a week ago," Madeline said. "If you think I’m broke, you are dead wrong. I’m just here to have fun."

"But now, after I saw all of you irrelevant losers, I just want to win for the sake of it," Madeline said arrogantly. "Now, back off. You people are making me feel ill with your bad breaths."

Everyone backed off after Madeline said that, not because they obeyed her but because they were on the verge of beating the shit out of her arrogant ass.

They didn’t want to get eliminated too early, as this reality show allowed them to be more popular.

On top of that, they got paid per episode and had a chance to win a million dollars! It was a deal they couldn’t miss!

"That’s what I thought," Madeline scoffed. She glanced at Jasmin, who had been watching the whole thing with great interest. She must’ve had one thing or two to say, but Madeline didn’t want to give Jasmin the chance to speak, at least not now.

Madeline wanted Jasmin to be the winner and wanted everyone to direct their anger at her instead.

She wanted everyone to hate her, so Jasmin’s position in this reality show would be smooth sailing because everyone was so fixated on taking down Madeline.

"And what are we waiting for here, anyway? Where is the host? Why do I have to wait like an idiot?" Madeline complained.

"We can’t start without all the cast, so we’re waiting for the last contestant to come in," Jasmin explained. The staff briefed her about the reality show yesterday before she met with Madeline in the bungalow, so she became the guide for Madeline, who was intentionally left in the dark about the context of the reality show.

"Tsk, who is this lazy ass sucker who can’t even come on time? Doesn’t he know how precious my time is?"

"Sorry for making you wait, Miss Rose."

Madeline turned around when she heard that chocolate-y, sweet yet deep voice behind her.

She turned around, and her jaw dropped just like the rest of the cast members when she saw the Hollywood megastar in front of them.

Zane Eastwood.
