Chapter 36: Chapter 36
Madeline and Jasmin entered the bungalow. They got busy for the first thirty minutes to set up their bed and belongings since they would have to stay here for a month if they didn’t get eliminated early.
"Are you going to stay wearing that thick makeup? You look pretty with it, but we’re in our bungalow," Jasmin said.
"I will, but before that..." Madeline got up from the bed and started looking around the corner of the room.
Jasmin frowned, seeing Madeline acting like a thief by checking every single corner of the bungalow. "What are you doing?"
"Checking if there’s any hidden camera," Madeline replied. "We’re the target of this reality show’s drama. I’m fucking sure they put some recording or taping device around."
Unfortunately, Madeline couldn’t use her hidden camera detection app on her phone because the staff confiscated it after arriving at the resort.
So she relied on her instinct to find any kind of suspicious hole.
She kept searching and searching until Jasmin helped her.
"I can’t believe they’d stoop so low just for drama. But I’m going to help," Jasmin said as they flipped their bungalow upside down to find any suspicious device.
As Madeline expected, she saw a small clay statue on a rack near the TV.
She grabbed the clay statue to inspect it, and her eyes got cold.
She smashed it to the floor, which alerted Jasmin.
"What? Did you find anything—Oh..." Jasmin and Madeline stared at the small audio-taping device inside the clay statue.
"They are targeting us," Madeline said. "They want us to say something controversial or something that would help them to get more headlines, and I’m not going to let them exploit us like this, not when we’re at our most vulnerable and exposed in the bungalow."
Jasmin clicked her tongue. She was annoyed that she had to spend a night with an audio recorder.
Thankfully, she hadn’t said anything controversial yet, so they wouldn’t exploit her.
"This bungalow is supposed to be a place for us to rest. The least they could do is not pry on us while we’re asleep," Madeline said as she searched for more audio or video-taping devices.
Jasmin found another one inside a ceramic vase. So, they picked them up and flushed the audio-taping devices in the bathroom.
They flipped the bungalow upside down until they ensured no more recording devices were inside.
"Okay, I think that’s all," Jasmin said as she cracked her neck. "Damn, how many taping devices do they have to trap us? They really want us to make a scene, huh?"
"Yes, but I refused to be recorded all the time. We need a safe space," Madeline said. She was angry when she remembered how Lance told her there would be no recording device in her room. ’That asshole will pay for lying to me.’
"Since there’s no more recording device, you should remove your makeup. It’s not good for your skin to have that all the time," Jasmin said.
"Wait, there is still one more place."
Madeline checked the mirror next to the TV and at each corner of the mirror.
She traced her finger around the edges and found a small, almost unnoticed bump.
Her eyes turned even colder. "Find a rock outside, Jasmin."
"Is that what I think it is?" Jasmin asked.
"Yes."
"Tsk," Jasmin clicked her tongue. She went out to grab a rock and returned to Madeline.
Madeline clenched the rock in her hand and showed her middle finger to the camera at the edge of the mirror. "You bunch of freaks, I hope all of you rot in hell, and that includes you, Valerie, Lancelot."
CRACK!
Madeline shattered the mirror entirely and smashed the hidden camera a few times to ensure it was broken.
Jasmin was angry, knowing that she had been using the mirror since yesterday, and they were probably taping everything.
"Can we sue them for breach of privacy?" Jasmin asked.
"The sponsor is Lancelot Grant from Empress Entertainment. He has a deep pocket and a deep connection. His lawyer will find a way to counter-sue you instead," Madeline said. "Rather than giving yourself that kind of headache, why don’t you just win this competition and get yourself a million dollars?"
"I doubt they’d let an ex-drug addict like me win. We’re here as fodder. We’re going to be around for a while but get kicked before the final episode," Jasmin said.
"I will make sure you win," Madeline said. "I will help you."
"Will you help me? Yo, I like you as a person, but we’re still competitors. Why would you help me?" Jasmin asked. "Besides, we’re not that close for you to actually give me such an expensive prize pool."
"I don’t care about the money anymore," Madeline said. "I’m here to gain infamy, and now, after a betrayal by a certain bastard, I will make sure he pays for playing with me."
"Wow... I gotta say, you’re a lot scarier than I thought," Jasmin said. "You look like a pretty Barbie doll on the outside."
Madeline scoffed. She grabbed her bath kit and cleaned her makeup to show Jasmin her true appearance.
"Damn, you look a lot more innocent and girly-looking without your makeup on," Jasmin said. "I don’t think you need that makeup at all."
"Because I’m playing a persona in front of the camera," Madeline replied. "You’re one of the very few who know my real appearance now. Please don’t tell this to others because I will keep that makeup no matter what."
Jasmin was touched that Madeline trusted her so much, even though they had just met. After all, nobody really wanted to get close to her due to her history.
She grabbed Madeline’s wrist and said, "Don’t worry, I’ll keep this a secret between us."
"Thanks, Jasmin..."
Madeline grinned.
She needed a partner, a friend who could cooperate and benefit each other, and Jasmin Fox was the best candidate.
They were both fodder for this reality show and became popular because of their scandal.
’I will force you to give the grand prize to either of us,’ Madeline thought. ’Just wait and see. You will regret playing me like a fool.’
