Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Lance hung up the video call with his cousin. He was actually quite concerned by Zane Eastwood’s sudden entry.
After all, Zane’s popularity wasn’t on par with this kind of reality show. He played in many action movies at such a young age and became an A-list megastar at twenty-three, the same age as Madeline right now.
He didn’t really care if Zane had a girlfriend, and joined. It was good to boost the popularity of the show.
But he was concerned about one thing.
’He’s not the A-list actor that Madeline mentioned, right?’ Lance pondered.
He had all the proof that Madeline had nothing to do with Zane Eastwood or any A-list actors other than Jonathan Hale, so he didn’t need to worry.
But when he imagined Madeline sitting on Zane’s lap and kissing him with sweet lips, he got restless and irritated.
But he tried to rationalize it by muttering, "I can’t let her get entangled with another man. She is mine until our contract expires because I need her for my plan to ruin my image, and I am the one who will determine when that contract ends."
Thus, Lance texted Madeline to clarify.
—
Have you broken up with your boyfriend?
—
It took about five minutes for Madeline to text back.
—
Yes, I’m now single.
—
Lance let out a relieved sigh.
This was good.
As long as Madeline was under his contract, she couldn’t find another man.
But at the same time, he was quite annoyed that Madeline called herself single, even though that wasn’t far from the truth.
So he called her, and she picked up the call soon after.
—
"Y—Yes, Lance?"
"You’re not single, Madeline Rose. You’re mine," Lance claimed out of the blue, much to Madeline’s shock. "You are my woman as long as that contract between us hasn’t expired yet, do you understand?"
"U-u-understand," Madeline stammered. "Um, did you call me just for that?"
"Yes, I just need to make sure you know your status, Maddy," Lance said curtly before he hung up.
Beep.
—
Madeline was stupefied by his call just now. She didn’t understand why Lance would call for something so trivial.
Nevertheless, she was single even before she contracted because that A-list actor boyfriend was a total lie she made to get some clout.
’Does that mean he gets bothered by it?’ Madeline’s cheeks reddened as she sensed that Lance sounded jealous, especially because of how he claimed her.
’Ah, he needs to stop saying that ’mine’ stuff. It’s not good for my heart,’ Madeline thought.
She tried to calm herself down but couldn’t help but giggle a little when she imagined Lance getting worked up over this.
**
Madeline arrived at the airport, and Ada helped her with the entire check-in process. They waved goodbye as Madeline entered the waiting room.
This would be her first flight after more than four years, and she was excited and scared at the same time.
Fortunately, Lance really gave her the best treatment, as he promised. She flew in first class and got all the extra amenities provided by the flight carrier.
Thus, she slept most of the flight, hoping to arrive in Bali soon and start her first shooting after four years.
**
It took Madeline a day and a half to reach her destination. It was a long flight, and her body was hurting all over.
But she was here, at last.
The heat and humidity of the island were quite novel for her as she walked out of the airport gate with her luggage.
As expected, the Summer Heat Lovers reality show team was ready to pick her up.
She drove through the busy streets of Bali, where the heat, crowds, and motorbikes were enough to repel Madeline from ever driving in there.
However, she had to admit the streets were beautiful, with many rice paddies and cultural statues.
"How long will it take for us to reach the resort?" Madeline asked.
"We’ll reach Canggu Resort in about two hours, Miss," the driver replied. "You’re the second last to come today. Everyone arrived a day ago."
"Yes, everyone already knows each other except you," the Assistant Director said. "But it’s okay. We will shoot our first day tomorrow, so you can introduce yourself during the show, right?"
Madeline scoffed mockingly. It was obvious that Valerie was trying to put herself in a difficult situation to see how she would act and how others would react.
She was the second last, so the other six people already knew each other and had probably already created an alliance of some sort.
’Tch, whatever, there is no point crying over spilled milk. If she wants me to make a scene, then so be it.’
As she was thinking of all the possibilities that could happen tomorrow, she asked, "And who is the last contestant who is even more late than me?"
"He is a replacement for the one that got sick before the flight," the Assistant Director said. She had a happy grin as she remembered the handsome man who would grace them all with his presence. "But he is an A-lister! He’s a Hollywood megastar!"
"Really? A Hollywood A-list celebrity going on a reality show as a contestant?" Madeline asked. "Who is he?"
"I can’t say his name. But don’t worry, you’ll meet him tomorrow with the rest of the contestants."
"You guys really set me up for this, huh?" Madeline sneered boldly.
"I don’t understand, Miss. What do you mean that we’ve set you up?" the Assistant Director said, looking away from her uncomfortably.
"Obviously, you could’ve sent me yesterday so I could introduce myself before the shooting day starts. But I guess you guys need drama to keep the show going," Madeline said without hesitation.
The Assistant Director went silent after that. She looked at Madeline, who was in a bad mood, and said, "This is upon the request of Mr. Lance Grant, Miss. We have no power over our investor."
