Chapter 249: Chapter 249

Lance snapped out of his daze. He closed his mouth and cleared his throat, trying to appear arrogant and cool, so he would look good for the wedding documentation.

The bridesmaids escorted Diana to her seat, and the bishop finally began the wedding ceremony.

"We are gathered here in the presence of God, family, and friends to unite Lancelot Grant, the second son of Duke Henry of York, and Madeline Rose in holy matrimony..." the bishop, who had been invited from the abbey, started a long speech.

Henry and Kate mentioned that they also invited the bishop from the abbey to their wedding, making Lance wonder if this old bishop was the same man who helped officiate his parents’ marriage.

The bishop’s voice became a buzz in Lance and Madeline’s ears. They were too busy being mesmerized by each other’s appearance, especially Lance, who still couldn’t get over how gorgeous Madeline looked.

She had always been beautiful, but this was 10x better than usual! Probably because it was a special day when they finally tied the knot.

Lance also noticed his mother’s special necklace on Madeline, a symbol of his mother’s full support for their marriage.

Lance was caught off guard when the bishop suddenly said, "To the groom, Lancelot Grant, you may do your speech as you wish."

"Ah—oh..." Lance grabbed the mic and stared at Madeline in silence for at least thirty seconds, which confused the guests and the bishop.

"Groom? Are you not going to say anything to your bride?"

"I will. I want to. I just can’t focus because my bride is so beautiful," Lance said. "I think my brain forgot how to think because of her."

His joke made everyone laugh, including Madeline, which helped Lance feel less nervous.

He cleared his throat again and started his speech, "I don’t think anyone here—including you— understands how important you are in my life, Madeline Rose."

"Before I met you, I was an aimless man who did everything I wanted without thinking about the consequences. I didn’t value anything in this world, which estranged my relationship with my family."

"But then, I met you. At first, I was cruel to you, thinking I could use you for profit. But you showed me you’re far more capable. You’ve bested me at my own game, and in that moment, I knew I had fallen in love with you," Lance said. "Then, you helped me organize my life. You also helped my family, which was in shambles before you came into our lives."

Lance wore a gentle smile as he glanced down; he wanted to hold Madeline’s hand and kiss it.

It might seem humble for someone of noble birth like him. But he wanted everyone to know he wouldn’t mind lowering himself in front of the woman who had completely stolen his heart.

He took a deep breath, knowing this was a significant gesture to show his deep love and total devotion to his wife. Gently, he took Madeline’s hand and kissed it in front of the guests.

He stared into Madeline’s eyes and said, "You are the owner of my heart, Madeline Rose. My heart is usually tough like a diamond, but it becomes fragile and soft when you hold it, so please treat it gently."

"You are the only one in my heart. Even death won’t keep us apart."

*Lance end*

Lance’s statement was really shocking because it revealed how deep his love for Madeline Rose was.

It also cemented Madeline’s position, ensuring no other noble ladies would dare try to seduce Lance when he was obviously fully taken by her.

"To the bride, Madeline Rose, you may do your speech as you wish," the bishop said as he handed the microphone to Madeline.

Madeline was also still in shock. She held the mic while staring at Lance, who had just done something a nobleman in his circle had never done.

She felt undeserving of such affection and often wondered if Lance could’ve ended up with a better woman than her, probably another noblewoman from a similar background just like him.

But in the end, he still chose her...

Madeline tried to hide her shaky voice as she started her speech. "Sometimes I wonder if I deserve such a happy life with you."

"I don’t come from a good family background, and I’m sure my scandal didn’t help. The public hated me for years, and in my desperate days, you came to me offering a job I couldn’t refuse."

"You might have a hidden agenda behind your help. But you are still my savior, Lancelot Grant. I like to think that we’re truly fated to meet in difficult circumstances so we can be each other’s support system."

"You told me that I am the owner of your heart. But I want to tell you that you’ve been holding my heart for a long time, and it has always been fragile," Madeline said. "My heart is frail and sensitive. I cried a lot even though I never showed it to anyone. So please, treat my fragile heart carefully because I’ve entrusted you with everything, Lancelot Grant. I am all yours in this life, and not even death will do us part."

*Madeline end*

The bishop told the ring bearer to hand the ring box to him, and Nathan was appointed for the task.

Nathan handed the ring to the bishop and looked at his sister. He had a lot of praise for her in his mind, but he was never the one to speak a lot.

So, he only gave Madeline a thin smile before returning to his position. It was the best he could do to show how happy he was to see his sister living her best life after so much suffering.

The bishop opened the ring box, showing a pair of wedding rings. He looked at Lance first and said, "Repeat after me, groom."

Lance followed the bishop’s words carefully while slowly reaching for Madeline’s hand, seeking support from her.
