Chapter 242: Chapter 242

"What do you think of this dress?" Madeline asked as she twirled in front of a dressing mirror. She was wearing a purple silk evening gown. It was a long gown with a slit for her thigh.

It also had an open back, accentuating her beautiful curves even more.

"Are you asking for my honest opinion or an opinion that will make you happy?" Lance asked as he approached Madeline.

He was wearing a blood-red suit that made him even more eye-catching.

"Honest one," Madeline replied curtly while striking a pose in the mirror.

Lance traced his finger along her bare back, a hint of possessiveness flickering in his eyes. "You look extremely gorgeous in this dress, but I hate that it’s an open back. I should be the only one who can see this."

Madeline chuckled. "It’s a common style for evening gowns. Besides, you’ve seen me fully nude every day. Isn’t that enough?"

"Not enough," Lance murmured, his gaze intense. "I think you’re really my type, Maddy. Do you want to be my girlfriend?"

"Oh, Mr. Grant. I don’t want to be one of your many girlfriends," Madeline went along with his playfulness. "If you want me, you must break up with them all."

"I will," Lance knew it was just a little play-pretend, but it turned him on.

He kissed Madeline on the nape, but before he could do more, Madeline struggled to break free from him.

"Not now, Lance. We must leave now, or we’ll be late for the award ceremony," Madeline reminded him.

Lance sighed, "You’re right. But you will be all mine after the awarding, got it?"

"Isn’t it always like that?" Madeline chuckled. "I’m always yours every night."

Lance smiled meaningfully but said nothing as he turned around and went downstairs, waiting for Madeline to finish her makeup and whatever else she needed to do.

At least thirty minutes, Madeline opened the door and yelled, "I’m ready! Let’s go!"

"Finally," Lance sighed. He glanced at Nathan, who was busy watching YouTube on his phone, and said, "You should understand this is normal for women, Nathan. It took them a while to get ready."

"Hm? I know that," Nathan replied. "I grew up with my sister. Of course, I’m used to it."

"Damn, you must’ve had the patience of a monk because I’m about to rot in this chair," Lance complained dramatically. "What took her so long, anyway? She’s already the prettiest woman I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot."

"What are you two talking about?" Madeline asked from the upper floor.

Lance and Nathan looked up simultaneously, and they were stunned by the beautiful purple dress that Madeline wore.

Her hair cascaded like a waterfall, swaying beautifully as she descended the stairs.

"She’s gorgeous," Nathan murmured.

"I know. You need to be as good as me to have a gorgeous woman like that," Lance said while staring at Madeline with worship. "I don’t mind waiting for a hundred years if she comes up this pretty every day."

Nathan rolled his eyes when he heard that because Lance had just complained about Madeline taking so long to get ready.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Lance," Madeline said as she stood in front of him. "Do I look good now?"

"The best," Lance replied without hesitation. "Let’s go now. I can’t wait to let everyone in this world know I have a gorgeous wife."

Madeline chuckled. "You really know how to flirt, Lancelot Grant."

Madeline turned to Nathan, who was also stunned by her appearance. She smiled, "I’m going now. Would you mind watching over Mom for tonight?"

"I don’t mind," Nathan nodded. "Go and have fun. I will watch the awarding ceremony with Mom."

"Mhm, thank you, Nathan. watch me on the stage, alright?" Madeline winked at Nathan before she left with Lance.

Madeline saw hundreds of fans and reporters crowding the entrance to the building where the Academy Awards were being held.

Madeline gulped after seeing so many people in one place and said, "Are you sure there’s enough security for us? I’m afraid they might attack us when we arrive."

"Don’t worry about that. I’ve prepared enough bodyguards in case any anti-fans want to hurt you," Lance assured her. But he tightened his grip on Madeline’s hand as he also got serious, wondering if there’d be an anti-fan hunting her.

Lance’s car stopped in front of the red carpet, and the bodyguard opened the door for them.

Lance was the first to come out of the car, and people were screaming his name with hundreds of blitzes from their cameras shining on his blood-red suit.

He might not be an actor or even an influencer. But his good looks on top of his wealth were enough to create a fanbase solely for him.

Lance looked around and whispered something to his bodyguards. After ensuring it was safe for Madeline to come out, he lent his girlfriend a hand and said, "You can come out now. It’s safe."

Madeline hesitated for a moment, and Lance assured again, "Trust me, Madeline. This is your time to shine."

Madeline gulped, suppressing her nervousness as she accepted Lance’s hand and stepped out of the car.

The blitz of hundreds of cameras momentarily shocked Madeline, alongside the deafening screams from fans who chanted her name.

"Madeline Rose!"

"Madelineeeeee! OMG, you’re so fucking gorgeous!"

"Madeline Rose, look over here!"

"Madeline, you look stunning!"

"Madeline! Madeline! Madeline!"

Madeline was stunned by people’s response towards her. For the past five years, everyone scrutinized and mocked her, so this was the first time after so long that she became a loved public figure again.

Lance looked at his girlfriend, who was still processing the warm reception from people, and smiled. "You’re not hated anymore, Madeline. There are so many people who love you now."

Madeline nodded absentmindedly, still in disbelief, but grateful. She still hugged Lance’s arm tightly because he was truly her protector and said, "I’m not Madeline Rose, the shameless skank anymore..."
