Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Madeline walked out of the store with eight bags, all carried by Ada, her bodyguard.

She strutted through the hot summer on Rodeo Drive with ease. Her voluminous blonde hair swayed elegantly.

Everyone kept recording her, and the live commentaries began to wonder if Madeline Rose was really broke, like everyone thought.

’Damn, she has a literal bodyguard!’

’How many things did she buy from Dior? That poor bodyguard is trying to carry everything.’

’Look at her waist! Totally snatched!’

’I saw from another live recording that she used a black card to buy everything. I thought she was broke after she left the industry. Is that all a lie?’

’Maybe she got herself a sugar daddy? I mean, let’s be real, guys. She is GORGEOUS! Of course, many rich men want her!’

’Ew! No! She is still a shameless homewrecker. Only stupid men want her!’

’Stop simping over her. Wake up, people! She’s a total bitch!’

’Yes! Don’t let her be happy after she almost ruined Jon and Vivian’s marriage!’

Madeline had become the center of attention on Rodeo Drive. Everyone recorded her, and some tried to approach her, though the female bodyguard was scary enough for them to back off.

Besides, they dared not attack Madeline when all eyes were on her, including the security guards standing near each store.

It was obvious many of the men she passed were enamored by her looks, but Madeline didn’t spare them a glance. She simply went to the next store and repeated the same process.

She listed all the things she wanted to buy. Sometimes, she just walked around the store, pointed at everything she wanted, and then paid with her black card.

Whenever she went out of any store, the poor bodyguard would at least bring eight more shopping bags, to the point that she was carrying more than thirty bags in her hand.

It was so much that she had to hang the strap all the way to her shoulder until she looked like a walking hanger.

Meanwhile, Madeline paid no mind to her bodyguard. She continued walking on the street while playing with her phone. She carried nothing with her except the black card in her pocket.

The contrasting sight of Madeline, who carried nothing and strutted prettily while her bodyguard’s hands were full of shopping bags, was so iconic that the paparazzi began to take many pictures.

Madeline realized the flash of cameras on her. But she ignored them, acting as if these pesky paparazzi didn’t exist.

She finally stopped after buying so many items. She glanced at Ada, whose face was full of sweat. She chuckled and asked, "Just drop them all on the ground and return to get the car. I’m getting tired of walking and shopping."

"Y—Yes, Miss!" Ada felt a sensation of freedom after being allowed to drop them all on the ground near Madeline’s feet.

She ran to the car she parked near the Dior store, letting Madeline wait for a moment while Ada drove the car around.

Madeline stood near the scattered luxury shopping bags around her. She was surrounded by people who were recording and also the paparazzi, who kept on blasting her with blitzes from their cameras.

Yet, Madeline treated them all as if they didn’t exist. She took a step back and accidentally kicked one of her shopping bags.

"Oh, oops," Madeline muttered before she leaned on the wall. The paparazzi were hungry for all of her natural poses.

Madeline really looked like a rich girl from Beverly Hills who spent her weekend on a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive.

The Rolls Royce Ghost parked in front of her, and her bodyguard quickly made way for her to the car.

Madeline finally smiled at the people around her before entering the car and said, "I’m going to leave now. Go spend your time doing something else other than stalking a girl on a shopping spree."

Ada put all of her shopping bags inside the car trunk before leaving Rodeo Drive.

Madeline’s arrogant expression gradually mellowed. She took a few deep breaths to calm down and said, "I’m sorry to make you carry so many shopping bags, Ada. I did it for the paparazzi."

"Not at all, Miss! You’re very cool!"

Madeline was surprised that Ada didn’t resent her for turning her into a walking shopping bag hanger. "You’re not mad at me? Hold on, I can pay you for your effort."

"I cannot accept any tips from you, Miss. I’ll get fired if I do," Ada replied. "But don’t worry. I get paid nicely every month, and I don’t mind carrying all of your shopping bags."

"... Really?"

"Yes, you really look like a rich girl having a shopping spree. I can imagine all the headlines you will make on the internet!" Ada said energetically. "I just think that you should’ve gone further. Maybe use that card to buy a car worth more than a million dollars!"

Madeline’s eyes widened. "A—Ada, you’re talking crazy! That’s a lot of money, you understand that, right?"

"Of course, I’m also not super rich like Mr. Grant," Ada said. She stopped at the red light and looked over her shoulder. "But Miss, you’re Mr. Lancelot Grant’s future wife. He has been a billionaire since he was born. I’ve been working with his family for five years and have seen him and his family purchasing crazy stuff for fun. So you shouldn’t try to be a cheapskate."

At this point, Madeline really wanted to just tell Ada that she was nothing but a contractual girlfriend. She had no right to spend his money irresponsibly.

Besides, she was still a girl who grew up in a normal household. What she did just now on Rodeo Drive was her perception of how a ’super-rich’ person would act.

Apparently, Lance and his family were even richer, so she couldn’t even imagine what they were doing with their money.

"I told Lance I would only use one million dollars a month from his black card. He’ll probably get mad if I spend more."

"Miss, you can call him later," Ada suggested. "Mark my words. He will be amused more than anything."
