Chapter 195: Chapter 195

Lance’s gaze darkened, and the smile on his face vanished. "Are you sad because you can’t be together with him?"

Madeline chuckled. She got up and walked to Lance, who was sitting in the executive chair.

She sat on his lap and rested her head on his chest. "You need to stop being so unreasonable, babe. I don’t love him. I wish things would turn out differently and we can be friends. After all, I have no friends..."

"You don’t need friends. You have me," Lance said. But then he realized that he sounded too possessive and didn’t want to scare her. So he added, "You also have Nathan and Jasmin, and you’ll befriend all my siblings and cousins."

"Alright, alright," Madeline chuckled. "We still have a lot to do. Let’s focus on handling work for now."

"Don’t you want to star in another show? I can create another show for you or a movie if you want."

"I want to have a rest, probably a full year of rest while waiting for this controversy to die down," Madeline replied. "Besides, there’s only enough acting gigs to handle before I get burned out."

"Are you sure? I don’t want you to spend your time holed up here, reading documents and such; it gets boring eventually."

"I’ll tell you once I want to do something," Madeline said. "For now, all I want is to support you through this difficult situation."

Zane checked his phone. His heart grew wary as he saw that the boycott was only effective at the start, but as Lance hired those critics to give a genuine review, the movie and TV showgoers started watching Psycho Moth and gave it an objective review, which made the boycott become less impactful and also ridiculous.

He was heartbroken after Madeline dumped him and spent his days holed up in his bedroom, drinking and scrolling through social media, hoping there was a text from Madeline or at least something that would give him hope.

But there was none.

Madeline blocked him everywhere, and she didn’t even try to confirm anything. She vanished and probably would lay low for a year or two, leaving Zane lost and broken.

Zane stared at the ceiling, and with his empty eyes, he murmured, "Why can’t I have you, Madeline? You don’t like me when I’m nice to you, but you also don’t like me when I’m being rough. I tried my best to mimic how that bastard Lancelot Grant acted, but how come you get disgusted with me while madly in love with him?"

"I don’t understand you at all..."

Another month had passed since the first episode of Psycho Moth aired. All the episodes had been released, and the ratings evened out around 75/100, which was amazing since there was a huge boycott behind it.

There was no news from Zane Eastwood or Madeline Rose, so people were left wondering what truly happened behind the scenes.

Nevertheless, life went on, and Madeline was too busy to think about Psycho Moth or Zane because she had to fly to the United Kingdom today.

"Everything has been packed, sis. You’re good to go," Nathan said as he helped her check everything into two large suitcases.

"Are you sure you’re not coming with us?" Madeline asked, letting the security guards carry the luggage. "You don’t need to worry about not fitting in. You’ll also see Cedric there. He’s your boss, right?"

"I have school. I can’t just leave," Nathan said. "Besides, you told me you might stay in London for a week or two. I’d get in so much trouble if I’m absent for two weeks."

"What’s there to worry about? I can tell the headmaster. I’m sure I can pull up some strings," Lance chimed in.

"I... I’m just going to stay here. I also have to work in The Oak Tree."

Madeline and Lance looked at each other, and the latter shrugged. "It’s his choice. Don’t worry. He’ll be fine in this mansion."

"Yeah, I’ll be just fine. I’m doing fine alone in our old home, sis. I’ll do fine here as well," Nathan assured.

"Well, I guess so," Madeline sighed. "Call me if you need anything. We’re leaving now."

Nathan waved his hand as he watched Madeline and Lance’s car drive out of the mansion.

He had a sad smile as he secretly wished to join them, but he didn’t want to ruin their honeymoon. After all, they deserved time after Madeline and Lance had been so busy working for the past two months.

And as for Nathan?

Well, he was always busy with many things. The least he wanted was to become the third wheel.

’My sister will eventually leave me, so I must get used to it,’ Nathan thought.

He returned to his room and prepared to go to The Oak Tree on the weekend.

Lance had already given him a car and a driver, so all he had to do was show up and start helping around the kitchen.

Nathan entered The Oak Tree through the backdoor and spotted Cedric checking the kitchen before the restaurant opened.

"Good afternoon, Chef," Nathan greeted.

Cedric glanced at Nathan and smiled. "You came early today. Go and prepare the main ingredients first before the other comes."

"Yes, Chef." Nathan quickly busied himself, but he glanced at Chef Cedric a few times before curiously commenting, "I thought you wouldn’t come today, Chef."

"Why so?"

"Because my sister and Lance already left the mansion an hour ago. Their flight is in the evening," Nathan said. "They said it’s a family gathering, so I thought... you’d be there too."

"Oh, I will be there; I missed my parents and sisters, too," Cedric chuckled. "But the gathering is two days from now. So I don’t see the rush. I can just catch up by taking a late-night flight tomorrow."

"I see..." Nathan murmured and then shut his mouth, knowing he had to be more careful around his boss.

"How about you? I thought you’d go with them," Cedric asked. "It’s a good way to introduce yourself if you want to be in an elite noble circle."
