Chapter 174: Chapter 174

Madeline left the hospital while ignoring everyone, including Nurse Dalton, who asked if everything was alright.

She wasn’t in the mood or in the mental capacity to be nice in front of anyone because, at this point, she might actually break down in tears again.

It had been a while since she fought with her mother. The last fight they had was when Madeline announced her relationship with Jonathan Hale to her family.

Her mother rejected the idea, and they had a huge fight that made them resent each other until the affair broke out, and Madeline finally apologized to her mother.

’But Jon and Lance are different. Lance genuinely wants to build a relationship with me, to start anew as a lover,’ Madeline insisted in her heart, dispelling her doubts about Lance.

But at the same time, she also knew that her mother’s blessing was everything. She needed her blessing, or else marrying Lance would have been impossible.

Madeline took her phone out of her bag, ready to call Ada, but she suddenly got a call from none other than George.

Her breath stiffened for a moment; she had completely forgotten that George had a medical internship here, so he should’ve been well informed about Zane, who secretly visited her mother plenty of times.

Thus, she picked the phone up and blasted him immediately;

"Why didn’t you tell me that Zane came to my mother’s ward?" Madeline asked angrily. "Do you know what kind of mess he made?! I swear to god, George, if you’ve known this for a while without telling me—!"

"Calm down, Madeline," George sighed. "I just found out about it on his third visit yesterday, and I’m too preoccupied with my medical internship."

Madeline knew that she shouldn’t blame George for this. After all, she didn’t tell him to look after her mother.

But she was still infuriated to know that Zane had been stringing her mother all along without anyone stopping him.

"Actually, Lance had been inquiring about your mother for a while. Because he got a credit report of you using more than a hundred thousand dollars in this hospital. But I haven’t told him anything about this," George added. "I think it’s the right time to tell him about your mother. Trust me, he will help you no matter what."

Madeline knew that was probably the case.

However, she was still unsure whether her mother would be kind to Lance because she completely misunderstood him as a predator and a rapist.

"Rather than keeping him in the dark, it’s better to visit him and visit your mother together."

George’s suggestion made sense, but not in this situation where Lance was still under so much pressure in his company, and Zane was still her ’boyfriend’ in the public’s eyes.

Thus, Madeline made her decision. "I will visit my mom again after I finish the filming of Psycho Moth. Because at that point, I should be done with Zane for the rest of my life."

George sighed. "Well, if that’s your decision, then I’ll withhold this information about your mother from Lance. Just ensure you tell him eventually before the damage is irreversible."

Beep.

Madeline called Ada, and they drove away from the hospital.

Ada could see that Madeline’s mood was at an all-time low. But she didn’t dare to ask because her boss seemed agitated.

However, Madeline broke the silence and said, "Don’t tell Lance about this, Ada. I know you have that in mind, but I trust you can keep a secret."

"But Miss, Mr. Grant deserves to know about this..."

"I will tell him, eventually. I don’t want to burden him now because he also has a lot on his mind. It’s better to wait it out for now."

"... understood, Miss."

Madeline returned to Lance’s mansion after a long day. She knew Nathan would come home late today because it was his first day with Cedric, Lance’s cousin, who happened to be a professional chef.

Thus, she decided to prepare dinner while being assisted by the cooks.

She wasn’t as good as Nathan, but she was pretty decent herself.

Besides, she also knew all of her mother’s recipes, so this was a method to destress herself after a fight with her mother.

Lance and Nathan returned home at the same time as she finished putting everything on the dining table.

They both looked exhausted, especially Lance, who seemed to have a rough day at work. So she kissed him on the lips before pulling him to sit at the table with Nathan, ready for dinner.

There was nothing but silence while they were eating; all of them were exhausted. Madeline thought this was a better situation for her because Lance wouldn’t ask about what happened in the hospital, nor would he inquire from George about her mother’s condition.

"By the way, I’ve talked with the newly appointed board of directors," Lance said.

"Did you finally replace all of them?"

"Half of them," Lance smiled. "It’s hard work, but I sent them to another branch or demoted them. So I can fill the board of directors’ seats with my people instead."

"Since Director Wang personally recommended you as one of the best-performing actresses he’s ever worked with, the board of directors and shareholders agreed to start the filming of Psycho Moth in a week. So it won’t be long before you’re completely rid of him," Lance said. He didn’t specify who that man was, but they both had a tacit understanding about him.

Nathan was the first one to break the silence and asked, "Sis, do you really hate Zane?"

Madeline turned her head towards Nathan and paused momentarily, trying to find a better word to address her disappointment.

"I don’t hate him. I just hope that he knows where I draw the line," Madeline said. She held Lance’s hand and added, "I’m very grateful for what he did to help me. But love cannot be forced, and I’ve chosen the man I want to spend my life with."
