Chapter 171: Chapter 171

"You are insane." Madeline shook her head in disbelief. She was speechless. She couldn’t believe all the stunts that Zane pulled just because she didn’t want to date him for real. "Zane Eastwood, you’re fucking insane!"

"Yeah, I’m insane because of you. You should blame yourself for being so fucking blind, Madeline Rose," Zane retorted. "Do you think I will do this if you accept me? I’ve been so good to you, protected you, and did everything you asked me to do. But you willingly sold your body to that scum just for a bit of money! You’re an insane whore!"

SLAP!

Madeline slapped Zane without thinking. She was just so humiliated and hurt hearing all of those cruel words that came out of Zane’s mouth.

Madeline admired this man so much that she became his fan since they worked together in a musical drama when they were ten.

She was also grateful for everything he had done for her and would be more than willing to compensate for all the hassle she caused him, in some ways other than love, because she didn’t love him the way she loved Lance.

Meanwhile, Zane rubbed his cheek. The sharp pain surged, followed by the searing heat, spreading across the left side of his cheek, but he didn’t mind it.

He could have dodged or grabbed her hand before she slapped him. But he didn’t do it because he wanted Madeline to know she had hurt someone who genuinely loved her and wished to help her.

Besides, he could also use this slap to guilt trip Madeline and her mother into submission.

"Don’t you ever call me a whore. I’ve never sold my body to Lance. We fell in love, and there’s nothing I can do about it."

"Oh, there’s something you can do about it," Zane chuckled. "You’re acting as if your love isn’t purchasable. Madeline Rose, you wouldn’t even look at him if not because of his wealth and status."

"Whatever. I don’t care about your words. You’re dead to me, Zane Eastwood," Madeline said coldly. But her teary eyes told a different story. She was upset, but Madeline didn’t know if she was upset because he called her a whore, or because she couldn’t accept the fact that everything Zane said might be the truth. "I will tell my mom about everything. I can’t live in this lie, Zane. You and I are just fake dating for the media, but that’s where I draw the line."

"Oh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you," Zane shrugged. "I told your mother that Lancelot Grant has sexually harassed you, and since that man is so powerful and possessive, I—as a very loving and devoted boyfriend—am trying my best to help you get out of his grasp."

"I also told your mother that Madeline will often try to deny our relationship because she’s so scared that Lance will do something towards us. But it’s okay; your mother already knows about the ’truth,’ and no matter what you do to try to convince her, none of them will work."

Tears streamed down Madeline’s cheeks, her voice breaking as she unleashed her emotions.

"YOU!" Madeline exclaimed, sobs punctuating her words, unable to contain the overwhelming distress. Despite her tears, she held herself upright, her gaze fixed on Zane with a mixture of hurt and anger. "Why are you doing this to me? What did I do wrong to you?!"

"You didn’t accept me as your boyfriend, that’s why," Zane said coldly. "Things would’ve been so much easier if you choose the right man, Madeline Rose."

"You shouldn’t have done this to me. Do you know how much I tried to persuade Lance so he wouldn’t ruin your career after you bruised my wrist? I saved your ass too!"

Zane suddenly grinned from ear to ear. His chuckle bubbled up, swiftly turning into a full-blown laughter.

"What’s so funny?" Madeline asked. "I saved your career, too! You could’ve been boycotted because of that small thing!"

Zane suddenly grabbed the same wrist he had bruised before and clenched it tight. Madeline winced in pain and yelled, "What are you doing?!"

"Listen to me, Madeline," Zane said with a malicious grin. "I found it funny that you think you’re protecting me from that scum’s wrath. But the truth is, I am far more powerful and influential than he is right now."

"He might haven’t told you about this. But I signed the TV show deal with his big brother, Theodore Grant, who is currently the CEO of Silver Line Inc., the previous parent company of Empress Entertainment."

"The deal will involve you and I playing in a TV show together under Empress Entertainment’s production house, and if Lancelot Grant messed up the production process, then Theodore Grant will take over the company instead since everyone in his company has been trying to kick him out of that CEO chair since day one, so Theodore can acquire Empress Entertainment."

"You may think everything will go well as long as we do the show, right?" Zane’s grin widened, relishing the desperation coming from Madeline’s face. He wanted Madeline to know who the boss was. So she knew not to rely on that bastard for safety. "But what would happen if I pull out of the show?"

"Of course, all I need to do is pay a fine for breaching the contract, and though the money would dig deep into my pocket, I can still afford it," Zane shrugged. "But what about your oh-so-powerful Mr. Grant? He will be reduced to ashes, with nothing left except his body, because his big brother will swallow his company and kick him out of that position."

"DON’T YOU DARE!"

"Oh, I fucking dare, darling. I can make his life miserable, so don’t underestimate me." Zane slowly reached Madeline’s cheek, and this time, she didn’t attempt to brush him off.

She was so scared of Lance being reduced to ash because of her mistake that she didn’t dare to fight back or struggle.

But she flinched when Zane caressed her cheek.

"You are mine, Madeline Eden Rose."
