She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 158
Chapter 158: Chapter 158
Unfortunately, what Madeline said was far from his expectations.
"Please don’t do this to me, Zane. I saw you as a friend, nothing more, nothing less," Madeline said firmly. She didn’t want to play a game of cat and mouse again with Zane.
She wanted Zane to know her true feelings.
"And those kisses we had?" Zane asked.
Madeline closed her eyes for a moment. She tried to remember all her kisses during Summer Heat Lovers with Zane, but she soon realized that everything was just for the show.
Because for every kiss she had with Zane, all she could think of was Lance.
For every kiss that she shared with Zane, she wished she could get twice the amount from Lance, and that feeling of longing was so suffocating for her because she got betrayed by Lance at that time and thought that it was just a one-sided love, just like what happened between her and Jon.
She was convinced that Lance didn’t take her seriously, so she thought she might need to learn to love Zane, even if it was difficult.
But now that Lance has shown his sincerity and seriousness in pursuing their relationship, she has no more reason to give Zane any more hope.
She had to shut him down immediately before his feelings towards her escalated.
Hearing no answer from Madeline, a bad thought popped into Zane’s mind, and he guessed, "You were thinking of him when you kissed me, didn’t you?"
Madeline bit her lower lip.
She nodded slightly, as no apology would be enough for the humiliation that Zane must’ve felt right now.
Zane’s lips thinned.
He clenched his fists but decided to stay calm, as there was no point in yelling at Madeline.
"I’m hurt, Maddy," Zane murmured. "If you’re not going to love me back, you shouldn’t have stolen my heart back then."
Madeline didn’t know if Zane still remembered their time in a musical drama when they were ten.
She barely remembered the musical drama except that she played as a little couple with Zane and recognized how much he shone on the stage.
But since she barely remembered that musical drama, she guessed Zane would’ve long forgotten about it.
After all, Zane was far busier than her and had many more films.
Thus, not wanting to embarrass herself by recalling the good old days, Madeline said, "W—We’ve just met during the shooting of Summer Heat Lovers, Zane. I think it’s just too abrupt for you to fall in love with me..."
Zane’s heart sank to the point that he felt numb.
Madeline had completely forgotten about their time together playing in that musical drama.
Maybe to her, it was just one of the musical dramas she played, and Zane was just one of the stage actors.
But for Zane, it was the fondest memory he had.
Madeline had unknowingly become the source of his inspiration, even if she didn’t want him.
’If only you knew how I always imagined your face whenever I kissed another woman during filming. You are the woman of my life, Madeline Rose.’
Unfortunately, Zane didn’t have the guts to say it because he felt Madeline wasn’t worthy of knowing what was in his heart when she didn’t even remember their time together in that musical drama.
"What do you see in that bastard?" Zane asked. "Do you like him because he’s handsome and tall? Don’t you think I am just as tall and handsome as he is?"
"Or is it his money? I told you I have a lot as well," Zane added. "Just tell me what I lack compared to him. I will show you how much I can fit your standard, Madeline Rose."
"Stop this, Zane," Madeline pleaded. "You lack nothing, and you don’t need to change anything. I just don’t like you that way."
"Then why are you attracted to that bastard?!"
"I don’t know!" Madeline snapped back. She got agitated when Zane kept on yelling at her and treating her like someone who’s only after a man’s money. Thus, she stared at Zane to utter everything she had in her mind about Lance. "I don’t know why I fell in love with him. I don’t know what’s so attractive about him, or maybe everything about him is just attractive to me. There’s no reason for me to like someone!"
"What a lucky bastard, huh?" Zane chuckled mirthlessly. He turned around and looked over his shoulder.
Madeline saw a teardrop from the corner of his eyes as he said, "Just call me when you need me again, Madeline. I’m sure you’ll need my help again."
"After all, I’m just a spare tire for you, right? You only picked me when you needed me, then tossed me again when I had no more use."
Zane’s last sentence left Madeline stunned.
She stared at him until he entered his car and drove out of the production set.
She felt drained out of her life as the guilt was eating her from the inside out.
As much as she hated admitting it, Zane was right.
Madeline actually treated him like a spare tire, only calling him and asking for his help when she was desperate.
But once the problem had been solved, she tossed him and returned to Lance again.
Madeline felt weak. She staggered to sit on a bench and took a few deep breaths to calm down.
She didn’t know who to blame at this point.
Should she blame Lance for putting her in a difficult position in the first place? She wouldn’t have to ask for Zane’s help if it weren’t for Lance and his stupid ideas to set her up for embarrassment.
But Lance seemed to have genuinely changed his mind and wanted to pursue a real relationship with Madeline.
Should she blame Zane for being pushy? But she was the one who asked for his help. He deserved compensation for saving her ass so many times.
’Then, should I just blame myself?’ Madeline pondered. ’After all, I am the one who signed a contract with Lance, and I am the one who asked for Zane’s aid.’
Madeline covered her eyes with her palms, as she didn’t know the answer.
