Lance parked his car in front of a production studio where the first few episodes of The Liar Husband and Lying Wife were being filmed.

Lance clenched the steering wheel as he tried his best not to put the gear in reverse and get out of this place with Madeline while it wasn’t too late.

He turned around and tried to persuade her one more time, "It’s not too late to change your mind, Maddy. You shouldn’t be doing this, and I’d rather let you wait for six months or so before I can prepare everything necessary to start the TV show project."

"You can still prepare that project while I’m busy with this one, right?" Madeline leaned and gave Lance a gentle kiss on the lips. "Thank you for your concern, but I am fine. I signed for this and am more than ready to face anything."

Lance’s heart sank when he saw the determination in Madeline’s eyes. In the end, he was truly a powerless man.

He might have the illusion of grandeur that he was as powerful as his father or big brother. But he was a lower priority than them because he wasn’t good enough.

He became the CEO of Empress Entertainment because he wasn’t good enough to handle bigger projects.

Lance gently caressed Madeline’s cheek and vowed solemnly, "I will make sure that none of them can touch you. You are safe under my wing, Maddy."

"Mhm, thanks, Mr. Grant." Madeline smiled at Lance before leaving the car.

Lance held Madeline’s hand firmly and led her to the production studio.

This was the first time after four years that Madeline stepped into a production studio where they made TV shows.

It wasn’t as grand as when she was in The Last Spring. But it was still amazing for Madeline, because she really thought she wouldn’t be able to stand in this place anymore after her scandal broke out.

Lance stormed into the filming set, where everyone—the actors and actresses, the filming crew, and the Director—was present, preparing for the first episode.

Everyone’s eyes were on Lancelot Grant. His momentum was powerful, and combined with his dashing looks, he was even more charismatic than the actor.

Too bad Lance had no interest in becoming an actor or the like.

The majority of the big names in this place already knew about him. He is the CEO of Empress Entertainment and was a major playboy who had a lot of flings; even the main actress of The Liar Husband and Lying Wife was involved with him romantically, though not for long.

But what really made a difference was the woman, whose hand he held firm.

As they entered the production set and stood in front of the Director, whispers and gossip started flying around them.

’Maybe. But it has been a while since Mr. Grant has been dating another woman after his most recent breakup. Maybe he’s been with Madeline Rose for a while now.’

’That’s just nonsense. Mr. Grant doesn’t sleep with anyone for long. He will ditch Madeline Rose just like what he did to the rest.’

’I have to admit, though. That woman is so deadly gorgeous. Maybe that’s why Mr. Grant is willing to accompany her to meet with the director.’

’Ugh, whatever, that skank Madeline Rose will be dumped, anyway.’

But to Lance, their whispers were burning through his mind, and he felt somewhat guilty because they basically confirmed that he was nothing but an uncontrollable playboy.

Nevertheless, he smiled perfunctorily in front of the director and introduced her partner, "This is Madeline Rose, as promised, director."

"You don’t need to be so formal, Mr. Grant. I am the one who requested her, after all," The director, who was a middle-aged man, smiled at Lance and then shifted his gaze to Madeline. He stretched his hand for a handshake and introduced himself. "My name is William Wang. Just call me Director Wang."

"Pleasure to meet you, Director Wang. I am Madeline Rose." Madeline shook his hand.

Usually, she would be able to detect if any man was lusting over her. as it was basically a survival skill in the entertainment industry.

But Director Wang didn’t seem to have any sort of lustful interest in her, which was relieving.

"I’ve watched Summer Heat Lovers, and I am impressed. It’s the first time I genuinely enjoyed watching a reality show," Director Wang said. "Since you’re here, I will give you the script, and you can familiarize yourself with the environment first. Don’t worry, your appearance starts in the third episode. You have roughly two days to study your role."

The director called his assistant and told him to help Madeline Rose.

Thus, before they got separated, Lance told the Director,

"Director Wang, Maddy is a valuable star in my company. I will not accept any kind of report of her being bullied or ostracized here," Lance said, looking at his surroundings and staring at the crew one by one with his viper-like intimidating eyes. "And that includes all of you. Don’t you ever dare to think about hurting Madeline Rose."

Director Wang’s perfunctory smile turned solemn as he realized that Lance wasn’t joking.

He dared not go against Lance because of his position and family. So he assured me, "I will take good care of her. Don’t worry, Mr. Grant."

Lance nodded. He shifted his gaze at Madeline and locked her waist firmly in his arms. "Maddy, I can’t be watching over you on the set every day, but if you need my help, just call me, alright?"

"O—Okay, thank you, Mr. Grant..."

"Good, I will leave now."

Lance turned around and walked out of the production set.

Madeline stared at Lance’s back, and for some reason, she noticed the burden that Lance shouldered.

He looked lonely but also firm.

Madeline bit her lower lip, not wanting to show an ounce of closeness with Lance while many people were around.

But she couldn’t bear to see him looking so lonely, so she called his name.
