She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 124
Chapter 124: Chapter 124
"No, I will not let you into that show, Maddy," Lance said with a somewhat displeased expression.
"Why not?" Madeline frowned. "I mean, if you’re unsure about my acting skills, I can assure you that I can handle it. Remember, I was in a box office movie as the main character, The Last Spring."
"No, I’m very confident about your acting skills. You have everything you need to be a superstar," Lance assured.
"Then what’s the problem? Why are you stopping me from taking on this role?"
Lance stared at Madeline for a while before saying, "The role. You will be playing as a mistress, a home wrecker of one of the main cast’s family."
The bright hope visibly drained out of Madeline’s face as she realized she would just cement her status as a mistress. A shameless homewrecker who deserved to be stabbed a million times by the official wife.
Even now, when she finally had hope to rejoin the industry, she was faced with the fact that people only saw her as a skank who seduced Jon.
"So, I’ve been typecast as a mistress," Madeline scoffed. "Can’t say that I’m surprised by it."
Lance saw Madeline’s beautiful doe eyes dim, and his heart was grasped from within. Seeing how Madeline was sad about this made him regret ever telling Madeline about the role.
He even regretted ever mentioning that she had a chance.
He should’ve just told her that nobody wanted to hire her for now. It might be disappointing, but it wouldn’t be humiliating.
"Look, you shouldn’t take this offer. It will only humiliate you," Lance suggested.
"Then what should I do? Should I just pass up a golden ticket to relevancy?"
"Maddy, if you’re patient enough, I can create a TV show with you as the main lead. I can create whatever, as long as you’re not playing as the mistress." Lance gritted his teeth as he felt bitter imagining Madeline on the screen, playing as an evil mistress even though the reality was different.
"I have all the power, connection, and money to make a drama for you, but..."
Madeline frowned as she heard the ’but.’
Because she knew that just meant he could not do it for her.
She never expected him to make a TV show solely for her, anyway. She wasn’t that important, at least not yet.
"You need to wait probably six months or so before I can plan out a TV show for you," Lance said guiltily.
He truly had everything he needed to create one for Madeline right now. But Theodore had been on his tail this past month. He would constantly cause trouble. Even when Summer Heat Lover was a huge reality show success, it still wasn’t enough for him.
So he kept giving incentives and almost unrealistic promises to the shareholders and the board of directors about all the growth he could make if Lance could just sign the contract to let Empress Entertainment return as a subsidiary of Silver Line Inc.
Thus, Lance spent a whole month trying to solidify his position.
Summer Heat Lovers—and Madeline Rose, to be more specific—were the key to his safety.
Everyone was satisfied with the reality show’s rating and wanted to give Lance another chance.
Lance wanted to create a TV show for Madeline for now, but the shareholders and board of directors weren’t convinced; they wanted Madeline to act as a guest star first to see her ability.
After all, four years had passed since her last movie, and she might’ve gone rusty with her acting skills.
"Six months is too long. I want to keep the momentum, Mr. Grant," Madeline said. "It’s fine. I know I’ve been typecast because of my scandal. But if I’m doing well enough on that TV show, maybe people will see that I am more than just my scandal with Jon."
Madeline sounded confident, but even Lance could see that she was sad. Her lips trembled as she tried to stay strong, hiding her disappointment.
Lance clenched his fist, thinking he was useless and couldn’t protect his girlfriend.
Thus, he tried to persuade Madeline, "Give me five months, then. I will find a way to create that TV show in five months."
"Don’t make this difficult, Lance." Madeline suppressed her disappointment and maintained her composure. "It is you who said that our relationship is merely business. I am just a business tool, and you need me to be infamous for your plan. This is a perfect chance, and I—we—should take it."
...
Again, with that business tool bullshit.
Lance wouldn’t give a damn about Madeline’s feelings if he truly saw her as a mere moneymaker.
He would shove Madeline into the director’s hand and let her survive on her own.
After all, most of the profits—be it money or connection—would ultimately be in his hands.
But he kept thinking about Madeline’s reaction and how she would survive in the showbiz environment.
After all, he felt extremely guilty for throwing Madeline into that reality show without any preparation, just for cheap entertainment and reaction.
Getting no answer from Lance, Madeline urged him, "Mr. Grant, you shouldn’t hesitate. If you don’t want to let me into that TV show, I will find a way to contact the director myself."
"Don’t!" Lance interrupted. "No, you shouldn’t meet the director yourself. That’s just suicide."
"Then, what next?"
Lance got a headache thinking about what would happen to Madeline.
But in the end, he had to give up and let her into the show, knowing it was truly the only way for her to be given a TV show.
"Fine, I give you my permission," Lance said. "But you will have to come with me. I will introduce you personally to the director."
"Thank you for the help, Mr. Grant." Madeline smiled thinly. "So, when would it be?"
"Tomorrow morning," Lance informed her. "I will personally pick you up."
"Finally, I can be in a production set again after four years," Madeline said as she tried to lessen Lance’s guilt. "Thanks for the chance, Mr. Grant."
