She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 123
Chapter 123: Chapter 123
"Tsk, why is she so petty? Just let the bygones be bygones," Lance complained.
"Well, my sister is petty, but you must be a real pain in the butt for her to reach this level of pettiness," Cedric said before he returned to the kitchen.
Madeline chuckled, seeing their banter. "It seems that you’re really close with your cousins."
"I’m closer to them than to my siblings," Lance said carelessly before he paused, then added, "I shouldn’t have said that."
"Then let me tell you something to make us even," Madeline said while eating a carrot cake. "I’m not close to any of my cousins because they all cut contact with me after the affair between Jon and I was exposed to the public."
"Then you don’t need them," Lance sneered. "A family member who refused to listen to your situation and would rather cut contact is not someone you want to be close to."
"Mm... I guess you’re right," Madeline nodded. "I just need my brother and mom to go through life."
Lance glanced at Madeline a few times. He felt that he was obliged to comfort her, knowing that she went through difficult times alone.
But he was the worst at comforting others. Most he could do was make a joke, and he doubted Madeline wanted to hear a joke now.
Thus, Lance drank his wine before coughing once to draw her attention.
"Let’s talk about your concern, Maddy," Lance said. "You called me so early on Sunday morning, thinking I’ve abandoned you and stuff like that."
Madeline’s mood turned sour instantly. She backtracked by addressing him as Mr. Grant instead of Lance again. "Mr. Grant, my concern is justified. You haven’t contacted me for one month, neither calls nor texts. How am I supposed to sit still, thinking you’ve forgotten about my existence?"
"I have not forgotten about your existence. Far from it," Lance said grimly. His smile vanished as he recalled everything that had happened during the entire month. "You’re in my mind day and night, Madeline Rose."
Madeline held her breath for a moment, unable to discern his words just now.
’I am in his mind day and night? What a load of bullshit,’ Madeline sneered in her heart. ’If I’m that important to him, he wouldn’t utilize me as a mere profit puppet and would at least contact me once a week.’
Lance saw the mockery in Madeline’s eyes. It was obvious that she didn’t believe him.
But he didn’t plan to tell her everything because the reason he didn’t contact her was to control his own urges.
The more he got himself entangled with Madeline Rose, the bigger the chance of Theodore finding out about his relationship and trying to ruin Madeline’s career and life.
He had been fighting his brother, Theodore, for a while now. One meeting after another, he always found a way to manipulate the situation against him.
Lance’s only saving grace was that Summer Heat Lover was a huge success, so his performance appeased the shareholders... for now.
"Moving on," Lance said. "I’ve discussed this with the directors in my company, and they all agreed that you are the main star of Summer Heat Lovers. The show would’ve flopped without you."
"If so, what plan do you have for me, Mr. Grant?" Madeline asked. "Unless you want to annul our contract, then I’ll be more than happy to return your credit card and bid you goodbye."
Lance’s expression tightened. His lips thinned as he was holding his anger. "Don’t ever think about leaving me, Maddy. You are not allowed to leave, and only I have the right to annul the contract."
"Then, about the contract—"
"I will never annul it, understand?"
...
Madeline sighed. She played with her cake as she didn’t dare look at Lance’s intimidating viper-like eyes.
"Fine, I’ll do whatever you want," Madeline said. "Since Summer Heat Lover has just ended, and it’s a huge success, do you think I deserve to have more work?"
"...You should rest for now," Lance said. "It’s only been a month since your last show. Go take a rest. Just use my black card if you need anything. I don’t care how much you spent anyway."
"I just want to keep the momentum," Madeline persuaded. "Don’t you think it’s a good way to maintain my popularity? I should be in more shows after this. Maybe another reality show?"
"No," Lance said, shaking his head. "The reality show is meant to reintroduce you into showbiz. If you come to another reality show, the public will see you as a mere reality show star."
For this one, Madeline had to agree with Lance.
If she were on another reality show, she would be seen as nothing but a cheap B-list actress at most. She wouldn’t have the prestige of being in Hollywood.
"Then what should I do next?" Madeline asked. "Should I go to the audition?"
"I don’t want you to get taken advantage of with an unfair contract by someone else," Lance said. "You should work under me or under a contract I’ve seen."
Madeline kept giving alternatives, but Lance kept denying them for various reasons. So, in the end, Madeline simply leaned on her chair and asked, "Then what should I do? I don’t want to sit while I can do other things."
Lance stared at Madeline for a while. He seemed to be withholding important information. He briefly considered it before mentioning, "Actually, you have been requested by one of my friends, a director who specializes in directing family drama TV shows."
"Family drama?"
"Yes, he requested that you be a part of the second season of his trending TV shows, The Liar Husband and Lying Wife."
Madeline saw a sparkle of hope from Lance’s statement just now.
Of course, she knew The Liar Husband and Lying Wife. It was a TV show that she binge-watched, and it had an amazing first season.
"Then what are we waiting for? Sign me up! I will play in that show as any character, even as the bad guy!" Madeline said enthusiastically.
