She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 119
Chapter 119: Chapter 119
A month went by without anything interesting happening in her life.
Lance hadn’t called her again after they had a fight a month ago, which was understandable because Madeline knew she was just a commodity, a tool for profit. Since he didn’t need her yet, there was no point in contacting her.
Summer Heat Lovers finally aired the eighth and final episode. It was such a short season because there was nothing much to shoot because of Lance’s decision.
But eight episodes were enough to send people into a frenzy on social media.
People cheered for Jasmin and Russel in their official accounts while they kept bashing Madeline for seducing Zane and also protesting against Jasmin’s win.
People called her a backstabber, ungrateful, and many more.
—
"Are you sure you don’t want me to upload something?" Jasmin asked while they were on a call. "We can take a selfie together to stop the hatred towards you."
"No need. I think it’s better this way," Madeline said. "If you upload a picture of us together, they will think everything is just a setup in Summer Heat Lovers. It’d be a bad PR move."
"But how about you?" Jasmin sighed. "I checked your comment section. Those people are so ruthless in their comments."
"I’m fine," Madeline assured. "I’ve always been fine, so you don’t need to worry about me."
...
"If you ever need me to clarify things in my social media account, don’t hesitate to ask, okay?"
"Alright, alright. I’ll talk to you later. You should do a live stream. I’m sure your fans will be happy."
"Mm, thanks, Maddy."
Beep.
—
Madeline chuckled. Of course, she wouldn’t clarify anything. Her current image was that of an ungrateful skank who ruined everyone’s life.
But this was the perfect image to maintain her relevancy. In this day and age, people remember the villain rather than the hero.
There were plenty of good guys in Hollywood already, so they wanted to hate on someone to feel better for themselves.
Madeline checked her social media account and grinned when she saw the rapid increase in followers.
She had roughly three million followers before Summer Heat Lovers.
And now?
Nine million and counting.
"Well, it’d be nicer if the comments and direct messages I get were kind or encouraging. But beggars can’t be choosers, right?"
Madeline checked her contact information and stopped at Lance’s contact number.
She wanted to know if Lance would call her again—obviously for work. At this point, she’d be too foolish to think they could be more than just business partners.
But waiting
However, a month had passed without Lance’s single call or text, and she wondered if Lance had forgotten about her entirely.
’I can’t let him forget about me. I need a job.’ Madeline bit her lower lip. She finally suppressed her pride and pressed the call button on Lance’s contact number.
The first call connected, but he didn’t pick it up.
"What the—"Madeline called again, and he also didn’t pick it up on the second call.
"Did he actually annul our contract without my knowing?" Madeline pondered. "I mean, that’d be great. But he should make it clear."
Madeline was about to call him for the third time when her phone suddenly rang.
She quickly picked it up after seeing the caller’s ID.
—
"Hello? Mr. Grant?"
"Mm, sorry, I didn’t pick up. I just woke up," Lance said as he yawned casually. "You should’ve called me a bit later at noon."
...
Madeline didn’t understand how this man could be so casual, as if it were another Sunday morning. They hadn’t spoken for a full month!
Not wanting to dwell on her annoyance, Madeline went straight to the topic: "Summer Heat Lovers has just finished airing, and the public reception is crazy good. People are talking about it on social media nonstop."
"Yeah, I have the statistics," Lance replied lazily. "You did amazing."
"... and?"
"And what?" Lance asked. "Do you want something? I thought I already gave you my black card."
Madeline took a deep breath and tried her best not to snap at Lance for taking things too lightly while she was stressed out thinking about their future relationship.
"Mr. Grant, what will I do next?" Madeline asked. "Surely you have a plan for me, right?"
...
Getting no answer from Lance gave Madeline the assumption that he had no plan to extend their contract.
But Madeline was well-prepared for this. Even though she hoped she could still work with Lance, maybe he didn’t see any profit in her anymore.
"Alright, if you want to annul our contract, we should meet tomorrow at your office. I will return your black card."
"Who said that I want to annul our contract? Don’t put words into my mouth," Lance refuted.
"You didn’t call me for a month. You didn’t even text me, Mr. Grant," Madeline said. "Now that we’re finally on call, you don’t seem to have any plans for me, so it’s safe to assume you have no plan to continue our contract."
Lance opened his lips a few times to defend himself from such allegations. This woman had been on his mind every day and night. He kept thinking about her and her safety, yet she thought he no longer needed her.
Oh, he absolutely had a plan for her.
He didn’t know if Madeline should take this job simply because he didn’t want her to get even more hated by people on the internet.
Lance sighed.
He checked the clock on the wall and said, "Get yourself ready. I’m going to pick you up in an hour."
"And where are we going, sir?"
"Lunch," Lance replied lightly. "Let’s talk about this in person."
Beep.
—
Madeline clicked her tongue when Lance hung up without even giving her an explanation.
But she had no choice. Thus, she got up from the bed and went to take a shower, preparing herself to meet Mr. Grant after not seeing each other for a month.
