Madeline had a bitter smile, as she knew that Ada was correct.

Zane was in love with her during the show. She wasn’t sure if he still kept the same feeling after what went down during the final episode’s filming, but everything about his behavior said that he was indeed in love with her.

"What about you, Miss?"

"Me?" Madeline frowned. "What about me?"

"Were you in love with Zane Eastwood during the filming in Bali?" Ada asked. "I mean, it’s not uncommon for co-stars to fall in love, right?"

"Yeah," Madeline scoffed. "Jon and I were co-stars in a movie that fell in love in real life before."

Ada gulped.

She didn’t mean to piss off her boss’ future wife. So Ada backtracked, "Y—You don’t need to answer this, Miss. I was just talking nonsense."

"No, it’s fine, Ada." Madeline sighed. "The answer is no. I know Zane is in love with me for an unknown reason, but I feel no such love for him..."

"None at all?"

"None," Madeline replied firmly. "Regrettably, I’m still in love with Lance even after the shitty things that he did during the filming, and I don’t even understand why."

"Well, maybe you and Mr. Grant are meant to be together. You know, some kind of fated mate or something."

"Pfft—hahaha!" Madeline laughed freely as she thought the idea was so ridiculous. "Have you been reading about werewolves?"

"Uh... I guess?"

"There’s no such thing as true love, fated mate, or bullshit like that," Madeline replied with a sneer. "If there’s such a thing, nobody would cheat in this world. But you’re literally driving a woman who had cluelessly submitted herself to become a mistress, the homewrecker of another woman’s blissful life."

"... I’m sorry, Miss," Ada said weakly. "I didn’t mean to offend you."

Madeline took a deep breath to calm down and sighed, "No, I should be the one who apologizes. I didn’t mean to attack or scold you. I just found the idea of true love to be stupid."

Madeline leaned on the backseat, looking down on her lap, where she put her phone, and checking all the hate comments.

"Even with Lance, there is no such thing as true love. Only a pair of Romeo and Juliette in their mission of getting what they want," Madeline added. "There will be a time when Romeo finally gets what he wants and dumps his Juliette for the sexier and younger lady out there who won’t ask for much."

Ada didn’t know if it was okay to ask this question that was lingering in her head. But she was worried about listening to Madeline’s rambling.

"Miss, do you think Mr. Grant will leave you?" she asked carefully. "I think he’s a good man. He seems to like you very much."

"Oh, he’ll dump me, of course." Madeline shrugged. "He betrayed me once, and he will betray me twice. I just want to make sure that I get all the benefits before I get dumped."

Ada dared not speak another word after Madeline dropped that truth bomb. She realized that the idea of Lance and Madeline might’ve disillusioned her because they looked so good together.

But maybe she had to bid Madeline goodbye after she and Mr. Grant broke up.

Ada parked the car in front of Empress Entertainment’s office lobby, and the moment she came out of the car, all eyes were on her instantly.

It was obvious that everyone in this office had seen the first episode of Summer Heat Lovers on their phone.

But Madeline didn’t really care. She strutted to the VIP elevator and used the special access card to go straight to the top floor.

"Good afternoon, Miss Rose." Deborah, the secretary, greeted her by bowing politely and opening the door. "Mr. Grant has been waiting for you."

"Thanks, Deborah." Madeline smiled as she entered Lance’s office.

Madeline saw the man sitting on his desk, busily typing something on his laptop, before he closed the lid and stared straight at Madeline.

The dark bags under his eyes showed a hint of exhaustion, and his grim face only worsened it.

"Are you okay, Mr. Grant? You look tired," Madeline asked as she drew near him. She sat on his desk and leaned forward, brazenly caressing Lance’s cheek. "You didn’t call me for two weeks straight. I thought you had forgotten about me."

Lance closed his eyes, enjoying the feel of Madeline’s soft palm caressing his cheek.

He clenched his fists as he was enduring the frustration as he was facing his own big brother. Theodore had been trying to launch a propaganda against Empress Entertainment through fake allegations, though none seemed to have worked. This was just a warning of the looming threat behind Lance’s back.

"It’s nothing," Lance sighed. "I just got busy dealing with so many shareholders’ meetings, so I have no time to contact you."

"I see..." Madeline stopped caressing his cheek and put her hand on his fist as she realized he looked so stressed.

"Well then, since I’m here, I want—" Madeline paused before quickly pulling her hand and saying, "No, never mind. So why are you calling me, Sir?"

Initially, she wanted to comfort him, telling him she was always there to calm him down.

But then she realized she had no right to say that because they were business partners. So, it was better to keep a distance unless it was work-related.

Lance sighed.

He felt at a loss because Madeline didn’t comfort him when he was so stressed out.

But he suppressed his desire and said, "I want to apologize first."

"Apologize? For what?"

"For the hate comments that you received," Lance said. "You know I hate that bastard, Zane Eastwood. So I argued with Valerie all night after seeing the first episode before it aired. Initially, I want to cut all of Zane’s parts."

"But Valerie said that you approved the first episode..." Madeline said.

"Not really, but she convinced me from a business standpoint." Lance sighed. "I hate to admit this, but the first episode to build up your drama with Zane is indeed too good to pass up."

"So you approved it because it’s profitable?" Madeline asked straight to the point.

"Yes," Lance took a deep breath, knowing Madeline would probably be angry at him for his answer. "I want to make you even more infamous and bring a lot of profit for your portfolio in the future. It’s all according to our contract."
