She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 333: Retrieve

Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Retrieve

"I’m not sure," Lu Yi stopped the car at a traffic light intersection, looking at the flashing red light with mixed feelings.

He wished he could pursue Shen Heyu boldly, just as Chen Lingmeng had suggested, but he knew he would never have a chance.

It wasn’t just that Shen Heyu didn’t have that kind of feelings for him; Pei Yansi was also a formidable barrier.

If he tried to get close to Shen Heyu, it would only bring her more harm because if Pei Yansi found out, he would surely vent all his jealousy on her.

He didn’t want to see her suffer because of him.

After pondering for a while, Chen Lingmeng seemed to understand his predicament, and she said, "Let’s work together."

Lu Yi paused, "Work together on what?"

"Helping you win back Shen Heyu, and helping me win back my childhood sweetheart."

Chen Lingmeng had always been unable to swallow this indignation. She grew up with Pei Yansi as childhood sweethearts, and it had already been agreed that once she returned to the country and finished her studies, they would marry.

But now, not only did he not recognize her, he even already had Shen Heyu. How could she possibly be content with that? Her beloved childhood sweetheart brother was snatched away right before her eyes.

Lu Yi glanced at Chen Lingmeng in the rearview mirror and saw the malice in her eyes. He realized whatever she intended to do couldn’t be good.

He sighed and refused, "No, thanks. Since she doesn’t want to leave on her own, there might be her own reasons for that. Outsiders don’t understand, maybe she’s happier by Pei Yansi’s side."

Lu Yi’s intentions were all about not wanting Shen Heyu to get hurt. As long as she could be happy, he could do anything, even if it meant giving her up.

Of course, he wouldn’t accept Chen Lingmeng’s proposal.

Chen Lingmeng glanced at him, "No wonder you haven’t been able to win Shen Heyu over for so many years, giving others the opportunity."

"Because you’re too timid, hesitating, unable to do anything properly."

Lu Yi didn’t respond as if conceding.

He had to admit that when he first went to university, he was indeed timid, somewhat hesitant, and never expressed his feelings to Shen Heyu.

He was so afraid that she only saw him as a brother and didn’t harbor those kinds of feelings, so he planned to go abroad, make some achievements, and then come back for her.

But by the time he returned, everything had changed.

Seeing Lu Yi’s acquiescence, Chen Lingmeng said nothing more to discourage him.

The red light ahead finally turned green, and Lu Yi restarted the car to leave. But soon after they’d driven off, suddenly another large truck rushed out from another intersection.

The truck was speeding so fast, as if it had been waiting for them, and went straight for their car.

Chen Lingmeng was the first to notice something was wrong. She screamed and lunged at Lu Yi, grabbing the steering wheel with both hands and twisting it sharply.

She was the type of person who acted first, knowing that if she communicated this to Lu Yi, it would take time for him to react, so it was better for her to take the initiative.

Her sudden action startled Lu Yi, but he quickly realized what was happening. As he watched the fast-approaching truck in the rearview mirror, he clenched his teeth and calmly said to her, "Get back to your seat, I’ll handle it!"

At that moment, their car, which had been sharply turned by Chen Lingmeng, was about to plunge into a ditch on the side.

Chen Lingmeng obeyed him, quickly let go of the wheel, and sat back down.

But just then, from another direction, came a large vehicle hurtling at even greater speed, of an even larger size, and with a more targeted trajectory.

Lu Yi hadn’t even had the time to react when the vehicle brutally crashed into his car.

A loud bang resounded upon impact as the two vehicles collided, flinging Lu Yi forward due to inertia, his forehead striking violently against the car window in front of him.

The glass instantly shattered, spiderwebbing with fractures one moment and breaking apart completely the next.

Agonizing pain ensued—in just a second. However, before even a second passed for Lu Yi to feel it, darkness overtook his vision, and he lost consciousness completely.

Chen Lingmeng’s situation wasn’t any better; she was thrown from her seat, her head colliding forcefully against the car window, blood streaming down her forehead. She too fell into unconsciousness.

Passersby stopped their vehicles one after another, moving forward quickly and dialing for emergency services.

Vehicles behind them also came to a halt, clogging up the entire road.

Pei Yansi’s car was behind theirs, waiting with expressionless patience as the long line of traffic built up.

It was Shen Heyu who found it odd and glanced outside, "Why is there a traffic jam at this time?"

Zhao Jin looked strangely in the same direction and casually asked a passerby who happened to be walking by. The passerby said, "There’s been a serious car accident up ahead. The road is blocked, and you won’t be getting through any time soon. If you’re in a hurry, I suggest you take another route."

Shen Heyu’s brow furrowed tightly. The road wasn’t particularly heavy with traffic or pedestrians; how could an accident happen at a time like this?

As she pondered in confusion, the wailing of an ambulance pierced the air.

Not long after, the ambulance left with the injured.

Half an hour later, the congested road finally cleared, and their car began to inch forward. Passing the accident scene, Shen Heyu saw people dragging away the wrecked vehicles.

Driven by curiosity, she peered out the window, instantly recognizing—wasn’t that Lu Yi’s car?

A sharp sense of anxiety gripped her heart. "It’s Lu Yi who’s in trouble!"

Upon hearing her, Pei Yansi followed her gaze and indeed saw Lu Yi’s car up close, flipped over, with blood scattered everywhere.

He furrowed his brows deeply.

Seeing Shen Heyu worried for Lu Yi didn’t sit well with him, but he knew the severity of the current situation, and said to Zhao Jin, "Go to the hospital."

Shen Heyu was stunned upon hearing his words; she had thought he would be jealous and wouldn’t allow her to see Lu Yi, and she was already considering how to sneak off to do so.

Unexpectedly, he suggested taking her to the hospital himself.

With a puzzled look, she eyed him—since when had this man changed his ways? Could it be he was mending his ways?

Pei Yansi noticed her gaze and gave her a faint glance, saying, "It’s merely to keep you from hating me too much, and from being too preoccupied with him."

"If I don’t let you go, you’ll be worried sick about him all day long, unable to eat or drink. Rather than that, it’s better to let you see him. Once you’ve seen him, maybe you won’t be so preoccupied."

His reasoning made sense, and Shen Heyu looked down without a word.

Pei Yansi wrapped his arms around her, saying, "I agree to let you see him, but that’s it. I still don’t want you getting too close to him. Be careful to keep your distance later, and don’t do anything to displease me, understand?"

Shen Heyu looked at him coldly, offering no answer.
