She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 334 Companion
Chapter 334: Chapter 334 Companion
Seeing Heyu remain silent, Yansi subconsciously took it as a rejection.
He stared at her face, but she wouldn’t meet his gaze. Perhaps because he couldn’t see her eyes, he found this communication obstructed and so he reached out, lifted her chin, and forced her to look at him.
His voice cooled several degrees, "Hmm? Why aren’t you speaking? Do you understand?"
Shen Heyu looked into his eyes, seeing the indifference and the faint threat within and knew that she had no right to refuse him.
She nodded, "I understand."
He didn’t restrict her freedom like before, preventing her from meeting Lu Yi, and for that, she was deeply grateful.
If she angered him further, and he prohibited her from going again, it would have been a loss.
Their car soon arrived at the hospital.
As she got out of the car, she happened to see Lu Yunlan’s car pull up as well, stopping at the roadside.
They arrived almost simultaneously, and as they got out, they bumped into each other. Lu Yunlan approached her anxiously, "I was so worried. My brother was perfectly fine, how could he have been in a car accident?"
Seeing Heyu’s anxious expression and flushed face, Chen Wenzhou followed her, but with a calm demeanor, looking very composed. He held her hand, "Yun Lan, don’t panic. Let’s first go and see the situation."
Lu Yunlan nodded at him. Seeing him so composed seemingly affected her too, calming her significantly. She then pulled Shen Heyu over, "I didn’t expect you to come too. How did you find out so early?"
Shen Heyu followed her into the hospital while explaining how she had found out.
Yansi watched their retreating figures, stood thinking for a while, and then followed them.
Outside the emergency room, Lu Yunlan paced back and forth anxiously, "This is really strange. There were hardly any people or cars on that road at that time. How could there suddenly be an accident?"
The more Lu Yunlan thought, the more bizarre she found it, "It’s as if someone planned this in secret."
Chen Wenzhou slightly furrowed his brow and gently embraced her, "The police are already pursuing the hit-and-run driver. Even though he fled, justice has a long reach, and I believe there will be results soon."
"Don’t upset yourself too much."
Lu Yunlan shot him a glance and then found his calmness unusual, as if the person lying in the emergency room wasn’t his sister, Chen Lingmeng, she said in wonder,
"Your sister was also involved, aren’t you worried?"
"Of course I’m worried, but this kind of panic serves no purpose," Chen Wenzhou said, "By calming down, I worry less. You have to learn to regulate your emotions."
Lu Yunlan was entirely bewildered, feeling the man before her had lost the youthful naivete and compliance from their college days. Instead, he seemed composed and unfathomable, hard to read.
She couldn’t quite understand him now.
Ever since he returned to the country, from their first meeting to now, she had been somewhat wary of him, always feeling his dark eyes had dramatically changed.
He seemed to be hiding deep secrets unknown to anyone.
Shen Heyu stood on the side, observing their interaction and also sensed something off about Chen Wenzhou.
She slightly turned her head and glanced at Yansi, noticing he was also staring at Chen Wenzhou and curiously asked, "Ever since we came in, you’ve been watching him. What is it?"
Hearing her voice, Yansi averted his gaze, "It’s nothing."
His voice was cold and indifferent, revealing no emotions, and his glance was just as nonchalant.
But it was different from Chen Wenzhou.
Chen Wenzhou seemed deeper, hiding secrets. While Yansi exuded a bone-deep indifference.
From the beginning, he had always been like that, cold and ruthless, arbitrary and unyielding, giving no one a chance, very hard to fully understand.
Yet not as sinister as Chen Wenzhou.
If one were to say Pei Yansi looked dangerous, he was a blatantly obvious kind, whereas Chen Wenzhou was a sinister and sly kind.
Shen Heyu was lost in thought, sitting on a blue bench waiting.
She and Lu Yi had been friends for so many years—her worry was genuine. Lu Yunlan, seeing that Chen Wenzhou did not speak to her, sat down beside her, "I’m really worried—hopefully nothing bad happens."
Shen Heyu patted her hand in reassurance, "Brother possesses good fortune by nature."
Lu Yunlan nodded but couldn’t help her teary eyes.
She stared fixedly at the emergency room light.
It was hard to tell how much time had passed before the light in the emergency room finally went off—but only on the side concerning Lu Yi.
Lu Yunlan quickly stood up and walked forward to meet the doctor coming out, "How is my brother?"
She asked anxiously, "He doesn’t have any serious problems, right?"
The doctor removed his mask, glanced at her tiredly, and said, "He’s out of immediate danger for now, but he still needs to be kept in the hospital for observation."
Having finished speaking, he turned and left.
A few nurses then wheeled Lu Yi out and into a high-end hospital room.
Inside the room, there was only one hospital bed and a few small sofas, a TV cabinet, and similar items. Everything was clean and tidy.
Shen Heyu followed them into the room—the nurses observed Lu Yi’s condition, completed his basic record, and after giving a few instructions, left the room.
The room quieted down, and Shen Heyu finally looked at Lu Yi. His complexion was pale, he was still connected to a breathing machine, and his breaths were very faint. The sound of the heart monitor, beep, beep, beep, was in operation.
If not for the sound of the heart monitor, Shen Heyu would have thought he had already stopped breathing. After all, his breathing was too faint and his complexion extremely pale.
Lu Yunlan sat nervously by the bedside, held Lu Yi’s hand, and her eyes reddened with worry.
Shen Heyu patted her back, "He’s out of immediate danger now. Don’t worry too much."
Lu Yunlan nodded, then suddenly remembered something, and turned to look at Chen Wenzhou who had followed them in. "Chen Lingmeng hasn’t come out yet, has she?"
Chen Wenzhou nodded faintly.
"Still in emergency," his voice was very calm; one could not discern much concern for her.
Lu Yunlan found it very strange—they had been in high school together, and he was not like this back then.
She said, "I’ll wait with you."
After speaking, she was about to stand.
Chen Wenzhou refused, "No need—stay here. If she can recover, it doesn’t matter where we wait."
His tone was even somewhat cold.
The strange feeling in Lu Yunlan intensified; she always felt that in these past days, Chen Wenzhou had changed a lot.
Clearly, the day he returned to the country, he was not as indifferent as now.
But she did not ask any more questions.
Pei Yansi came over to Shen Heyu, patted her shoulder, "Let’s go back first."
Since it was confirmed that he was no longer in mortal danger, he didn’t want her to stay here any longer.
Shen Heyu refused, "I will stay with Yunlan."
Pei Yansi frowned, "She has Chen Wenzhou with her."
"That’s not the same," she said firmly.
