She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 331: Coaxing Her
Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Coaxing Her
Pei Yansi felt a stab of pain in his chest from the resentful look in her eyes, if only for a moment. It was as if he could hear something shattering within his chest.
He reached out, wanting to embrace Shen Heyu in his arms and to soothe her again; however, upon seeing his approach, she suddenly recoiled as if he were a flood or a ferocious beast, avoiding him as if he were a snake or scorpion.
Pei Yansi paused, not forcing her anymore. He sat back in his original spot and said, "I just didn’t want you to know about this fact, after all, it’s very cruel."
"But your deceit feels even crueler to me," Shen Heyu coldly replied, a chilling disdain apparent in her eyes as she looked at him.
Pei Yansi just quietly watched her. This time he didn’t speak, because he knew she was angry and no matter what he said, she wouldn’t listen.
He just sat there, instructed Zhao Jin to drive to a nearby restaurant.
It was already lunchtime. Once the car started, he then changed the topic and said to Shen Heyu, "You must be hungry. Let’s eat first."
Hearing his casual tone, Shen Heyu could hardly contain her anger; she couldn’t understand how he could act as if nothing had happened given the situation.
"I have no appetite, I won’t eat, take me back home."
"You need to eat well to have the energy to be angry with me," Pei Yansi said, ignoring her refusal and not instructing Zhao Jin to stop the car.
Zhao Jin drove to a nearby well-known Chinese restaurant.
After the car parked, Shen Heyu remained stubbornly seated inside, unwilling to get out, until finally, Pei Yansi turned around and half-dragged, half-carried her out of the car.
He firmly grasped Shen Heyu’s hand, clutching it in his palm protectively, "I know this restaurant; you used to come here often with Lu Yunlan, you must like it."
"I don’t like it."
Shen Heyu said coldly.
Pei Yansi knew she was saying the opposite of what she felt and paid no mind to her words. He led her in and asked for a private room.
During the meal, Pei Yansi pushed the menu toward her; she didn’t even glance at it, turning her head away petulantly, sworn not to pay him any attention.
Seeing her like this, Pei Yansi didn’t give further persuasion. He ordered for her based on his knowledge of her tastes, choosing all her favorite dishes.
Before long, the server brought up all the dishes. Initially determined not to interact with him, Shen Heyu, tempted by the delicious smell of food, found it hard to resist, her stomach grumbling audibly.
She had gone to meet Shen Jiangli with Pei Yansi early in the morning, skipping both breakfast and lunch. Now Pei Yansi had intentionally ordered her favorite dishes, and she couldn’t help but cave in.
The private room was very quiet; the rumbling of her stomach was particularly noticeable, soft and feeble.
Pei Yansi held back his laughter, served her some rice, and then said, "Eat up, all your favorites are here."
"I’m not doing this for you, I just don’t want to starve!" Shen Heyu defiantly stated, making her position clear before starting to eat, definitely not interacting with Pei Yansi.
He, unfazed, just smiled slightly, watching Shen Heyu have her lunch.
She was genuinely hungry and somewhat upset, no longer caring about appearances, eating with a degree of frank rudeness.
But Pei Yansi didn’t find anything amiss, he simply thought she was extremely adorable. He preferred seeing her like this, lively and animated, compared to when she ignored him, sporting a cold face with no expression at all.
It sparked the imagination.
After eating her fill, Shen Heyu realized that she might have been tricked by Pei Yansi. They had agreed that she would ignore him, but in the end, wasn’t this the result?
Thinking of this, she gave him a sidelong glance.
At this moment, Pei Yansi said, "I didn’t mean to hide it from you."
Pei Yansi noted that her anger had subsided a lot; now was the best time to explain. Perhaps she would be receptive.
And Shen Heyu, having eaten and drunk her fill, was in a much better mood, no longer as despondent as before, and more importantly, much less angry.
Moreover, she still harbored a trace of affection for Pei Yansi; where there’s affection, there’s hope.
Hearing him start to explain, she sat quietly, listening to him continue, "It’s just that, at the time, you didn’t believe in Shen Fanshuang’s character."
"Even if I said that she had taken your place by my side, you wouldn’t have believed me," he continued.
Pei Yansi spoke earnestly, looking at Shen Heyu with sincere, intensely loving eyes, "Let alone this matter, which is far more serious than her taking your place. I was worried you wouldn’t trust me, and would think it was all a deliberate deception by me to achieve some purpose."
"That way, you would only grow more distant from me. That’s not the outcome I wanted; therefore, I had no choice but to reveal the truth to you through someone else’s hands."
His explanation was actually plausible, even similar to the time with Shen Jiangli.
Shen Heyu didn’t respond.
She quietly lowered her head, looking at her fingers, and remained silent for a while before saying, "But in doing so, you still protected her."
"I only learned about it recently, so it’s not really protecting her. And as soon as I knew the truth, I told you right away. And regarding Shen Jiangli, I really never felt any leniency, did I?" he replied.
Pei Yansi pleaded earnestly, and seeing Shen Heyu seemingly swayed, he quickly sat beside her, seizing the opportunity to stoke the flames.
He took her hand in his, cupping it in his palm, and with his other hand, he loosely embraced her, "I have been trying my hardest to tell you the truth as quickly as possible."
"I never intended to protect Shen Fanshuang."
Shen Heyu suddenly didn’t know what to say.
But the hurt she had suffered six years ago because of this incident had not lessened. Even now, she had not forgotten; she could always remember how Pei Yansi had hurt her because of this matter.
Pei Yansi gazed quietly at her face, observing her reactions, and realizing what she was thinking, he quickly said, "I will try my best to make up for the past. I am trying to make amends now and hope you will give me a chance."
"Let’s talk about this later, let’s leave it here for today," she said.
Having spoken, Shen Heyu stood up and walked out of the private room.
Her heart was somewhat in turmoil, unsure of how to face Pei Yansi. The truth of the matter had been unveiled, but what she couldn’t let go of was the hurt she had experienced in her past.
Yet when Pei Yansi earnestly pleaded with her, her heart undeniably stirred. Stepping out of the restaurant, Shen Heyu looked at the dull winter sky, the season rapidly passing, with spring approaching. Yet, it seemed her life hadn’t improved at all.
She was looking into the distance, preparing to get into her car, when she heard a familiar voice calling her from behind.
