Sharing Dreams with My Bestie’s Cousin
Chapter 118 - 118 Go on a date with him

Chapter 118: Go on a date with him Chapter 118: Go on a date with him Wen Zhi suddenly looked up and met Shang Hexing’s gaze, “Mr. Shang, are you worried about me?”

Shang Hexing said, “I thought you would make up excuses for me, but none of them are because of you.”

She was unusually straightforward.

And he was even more so.

Caught off guard, Wen Zhi didn’t admit she indeed wanted to make up an excuse for him, but seeing him right after the danger, she felt an unprecedented sense of security.

“What happened over there?” Shang Hexing asked.

Wen Zhi met his eyes, “I accidentally entered their work area, but they didn’t make things difficult for me and let me out.”

Shang Hexing took out his phone, but before he could make a call, she pressed his wrist, “No need to check.”

Shang Hexing said, “Let Chen Jinhai get to the bottom of it.”

Wen Zhi shook her head.

The aftermath of that ‘crazy horse’ was handled very secretly, and Wen Zhi herself hadn’t stumbled in by mistake; she had deliberately followed there.

If Shang Hexing were to investigate, the truth would surely come to light.

But wouldn’t that ruin the schemer’s efforts?

The play had reached this stage, and Wen Zhi had resolved to immerse herself in the drama; she really wanted to know whether the person behind this scheme was the one she suspected it to be!

Seeing that Wen Zhi had plans, Shang Hexing put away his phone, merely reminding her, “Don’t let yourself fall into danger.”

He was very serious, so much so that Wen Zhi felt like a little schoolgirl being scolded by a teacher after making a mistake.

She felt a bit rebellious inside, “I know what I’m doing.”

Shang Hexing looked at her spirited rebuttal and returned, “I am also aware of what you are doing.”

Wen Zhi felt it was impossible for him to know, hadn’t he just arrived at the Horse Farm?!

“Zhizhi.”

A voice called from afar.

Wen Zhi lifted her head and saw Meng Fan running over; she waved at Meng Fan and then turned to speak to Shang Hexing in a pleading tone, “Don’t let Meng Fan know too much, she’ll worry.”

Shang Hexing, seeing the emotion on her face intensify, knew she was anxious and deliberately spoke coldly, “I thought you didn’t trust me.”

Wen Zhi called out his full name, “Shang Hexing…”

Shang Hexing raised his hand, his slender fingertips brushing the hair from her forehead behind her ear, “I understand.”

The gesture was very intimate, and he did it with natural ease.

Meng Fan caught up, huffing with her hands on her hips after jogging the last few steps; Chen Jinhai was following behind her. Arriving in front of Wen Zhi, Meng Fan examined her carefully, relieved to see nothing amiss.

“Zhizhi, you scared me to death, I thought something happened to you at the Horse Farm,” said Meng Fan, catching her breath.

Wen Zhi offered Meng Fan a gentle smile and shook her head, “I was fairly far away at the time, I avoided it, it’s nothing.”

Meng Fan wondered, “What would make a horse go mad all of a sudden?”

Wen Zhi asked, “You know it was a horse that went mad?”

Meng Fan tilted her chin towards Chen Jinhai, “Chen Zhu just found out, I heard a horse suddenly went mad.”

Chen Jinhai nodded, “That’s right, but we still don’t have definitive news on whether the horse belongs to a private owner or to the Horse Farm.”

Wen Zhi turned her head to look at Shang Hexing.

Shang Hexing knew what she meant to say, and told Chen Jinhai, “No need to look any further.”

Chen Jinhai nodded, “Understood, Mr. Shang.”

Wen Zhi suddenly looked at Shang Hexing and asked, “Mr. Shang, are you busy this afternoon?”

Shang Hexing lowered his eyes to look at her, “Are you trying to rush me off?”

Wen Zhi immediately shook her head, “I’m not like that.”

“I’d say so,” Shang Hexing tugged at his lips, “heartless.”

“…”

How was she heartless? Her conscience was just fine.

But he did seem genuinely unhappy.

Wen Zhi reached out and tugged at his sleeve, “Mr. Shang.”

His gaze fell on the delicate, fair hand on his sleeve, and his brow quivered slightly.

Noticing the subtle change in his expression, Wen Zhi looked up and said, “I have a few private words to say to Meng Fan.”

Shang Hexing glanced at her, “What is it that I can’t hear?”

Suddenly, Meng Fan joined in, “Uncle, there’s just far too much whispering between Zhizhi and me that you can’t hear.”

Wen Zhi silently glared at Meng Fan.

Meng Fan closed his mouth, holding back a laugh.

Under Shang Hexing’s watchful eyes, Wen Zhi pulled Meng Fan aside. Shang Hexing swept them with a glance before standing still, waiting.

“Zhizhi, what do you want to talk to me about?” Meng Fan thought it was something important and put away his playful smile.

Wen Zhi asked her, “When you came, did you get seen by Chong Wanyin?”

Meng Fan shook his head, “I don’t think so. I followed Uncle here, and we went straight to the Horse Farm without passing through the resting area.”

Suddenly, Wen Zhi asked again, “Do you have anything else to do this afternoon?”

Meng Fan shook his head, “No.”

After answering, Meng Fan’s expression instantly became serious, and he anxiously asked, “Come on, what big issue are you entrusting to me?”

After careful consideration, Wen Zhi made a decision, “You should go back.”

“…”

No way, was there a mistake?!

Meng Fan had thought that Wen Zhi specifically avoided Uncle to speak to her alone because there was some important matter to entrust to her, only to hear Wen Zhi tell her to leave!

After being shocked, Meng Fan was very puzzled. Without thinking further, she blurted out, “What are you doing? You’re not going to have a date with Uncle, are you?”

Wen Zhi choked and slapped Meng Fan on the arm.

Meng Fan remarked meaningfully, “Zhizhi, why is your face still red?”

Today, Wen Zhi hadn’t worn makeup, and a clear blush was now visible on her naturally pale cheeks.

Reminded by Meng Fan in such a way, Wen Zhi’s face grew even redder, “It’s all because you’re annoying me.”

“Hey, how is this my fault?” Knowing the truth in her heart, Meng Fan feared that if they kept on, Wen Zhi’s face would turn as red as a steamed crab, “Do as you like, but I can only rest assured if you guarantee your safety. It would be best if you could stay with Uncle all the time until you go home.”

Wen Zhi patted her chest, “I promise.”

Meng Fan hummed, “Your promises aren’t worth much, little liar.”

After speaking, Meng Fan turned her head towards Shang Hexing, who was standing not too far away, and called out loudly, “Uncle, I have to go because of some business, I’m leaving Zhizhi in your care.”

Shang Hexing glanced over and nodded.

Turning her gaze back, Meng Fan said, “Then I’ll be off, and another thing…”

Wen Zhi asked, “What else?”

Meng Fan was about to mention what she had overheard outside the old master’s room today, but the words felt out of place at the moment. It would be better to discuss them slowly when it was just her and Wen Zhi.

“Nothing, I’ll talk about it another time,” said Meng Fan, retracting her previous words. She waved her hand and turned to leave the Horse Farm.

After watching Meng Fan walk away, Wen Zhi rubbed her slightly warm cheeks, took a couple of deep breaths to compose herself, and then returned to Shang Hexing’s side, “Mr. Shang.”

Shang Hexing looked at her expressionlessly.

Wen Zhi said, “Mrs. Shang invited me out to ride horses today. I lied that I wasn’t feeling well in my stomach and didn’t go all this while. Mrs. Shang is probably worried, and she’s likely to send someone to look for me soon.”
