Chapter 85: 83 | Since When?
’Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.’
That was the only thing on repeat in Winter’s head. Winter couldn’t be sure yet but he had a strong feeling that the Kent brothers did not just come to run their mouths but had evidence with them.
Winter was suddenly struck with fear. He was afraid of Blue truly discovering how terrible a person he was. Blue had once told him that he believed he was not malicious enough to be classified as a completely terrible person.
The Winter of a few months ago would beg to differ. But he was no longer that person, was he?
"It doesn’t matter..." Blue said with a small voice, still looking at Winter.
Blue felt years of his life chip away after he said those words. In fact, he felt his strongest weapon—his beliefs—crumble right before his very eyes.
Blue didn’t want to know whatever his brothers wanted him to be wary of concerning Winter. This was because he had reached a particular point in his life where he truly didn’t care about the consequences of being with Winter, an Alpha.
At least, he believed he didn’t care.
"This guy—"
"Just what are you two trying to accomplish here, crashing our dates and trying to sow discord between the two of us?" Winter spoke with a fierce tone.
"Do you know that you’re exactly his type? Fierce with a strong sense of self-respect. That’s how he likes them. And guess how every single Omega of his ends up?" Atlas ignored Winter’s words, facing Blue alone.
"Hey! Stop saying nonsense!" Winter exclaimed.
"He crumbles their beliefs; leads them on and leaves them after achieving his goal. And you want to know what his goal is? Destroying their self-esteem. Making them doubt their beliefs and having them realize that Alphas are superior no matter the instance." Atlas didn’t stop speaking until he was satisfied.
And by this time, Blue’s throat had already been clogged up with words that he didn’t know how to deliver.
"And this is the kind of person that you stick close to? Posing for pictures and prancing around the society with. Someone who doesn’t even view you as a person but as a target to conquer. I pity you, Blue. I truly pity you." Atlas said.
"He is the type of person to wiggle his way into a person’s heart by any means necessary. Be it pretending to be someone he’s not or forcing situations that would lead to him seeming trustworthy and dependable. That’s how he traps people. Or in better terms: hunts Omegas." Atlas explained critically.
"That’s not true." Winter hurriedly spoke in his defense, grabbing onto Blue’s arms. "He’s just saying nonsense."
"Just saying nonsense? Eliot, show him." Atlas gestured to Eliot in the second half of his statement.
Eliot quickly brought out a medium brown file from the inner compartment of the suit he was wearing. He dug his hand into the file and brought out a couple of pictures, then splayed them all on the table.
There were about seven pictures, and Winter was starring in each one of them.
"Devon Newcastle, former Omega Rights Activist. Sasha Valance, former face model. Ophelia Rivers, former guidance counselor. Kendall Cohen, former international gymnast. Brother, are you seeing a pattern here?" Eliot identified some of the people in the pictures.
Blue was as quiet as ever.
"Why do you think they’re all tagged with ’former’ titles? And have all left their former careers soon after parting from the guy standing next to you? If you think I’m lying, you can search up on the names I’ve called." Eliot continued speaking.
Blue glanced back at Winter.
"Them quitting their jobs... has nothing to do with me." Winter forced out from his mouth, still with the intent to defend himself.
"Oh yeah. I would’ve brought a few of them along to ask their thoughts but I’m not so idle." Atlas said. Then he turned to face Blue, saying, "Can you see how dangerous the world is? Can you see why we’re always trying to protect you by keeping an eye on you?
"It’s because of people like this. They are everywhere. Come back home, Blue. Father is no longer around. You only have us now. We’re the only ones you can trust."
Blue’s hands were shaking. No one could tell what was going through his mind. His expression was blank, unreadable.
Winter, who used to pride himself in being slightly good at reading Blue’s expressions, couldn’t tell what Blue was thinking at the moment. But he was sure that it was not something positive about him.
And for that, he tried to salvage himself from the situation.
"Blue, yes, I’ve been with these people. Yes, I might have done things to them that were not morally right. But I wouldn’t do the same to you—"
"But you already have." A small voice sounded. Blue’s voice was incredibly weak. His eyes were fixed on the photos splayed on the table.
Each of the Omegas standing side by side with Winter were all immeasurably dazzling; drop dead gorgeous. And Winter was wearing a similar expression in every one of the photos.
He was wearing a smile that Blue despised to death. The same smile that he had warned Winter never to show in front of him.
Blue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
"Blue, I..."
Staring at the betrayed look on Blue’s face, the words Winter wanted to say evaded him.
Winter had even confessed to him all the things that he’d done to try to make their relationship work. The sneaky plots and the little lies he’d worked around.
Had he done the same thing to the other Omegas? The other Omegas whom he had just said himself weren’t anything to him.
Blue’s head was buzzing with so many thoughts that he couldn’t get himself to concentrate on just one.
"I know it looks bad, but I swear. I swear with all my heart, I have motive to lead you on and discard you just like that." Winter said to Blue with a promising tone.
But Blue simply responded with the words, "Since when?"
Since when did Winter decide not to lead him on? Since when did he decide that he wasn’t going to discard him mercilessly?
If Winter could just say ’since the beginning’, then Blue’s greatest worries would be eased and he would manage to push everything that transpired here to the back of his mind.
However, Winter didn’t say what Blue wanted to hear. In fact, he didn’t say anything at all.
Blue waited and waited for Winter to speak. But the words never came out.
"I... I have to go to the restroom." Blue suddenly said in daze with a hand to his head as he stumbled on air.
Winter reached to hold Blue but was blocked by the two hefty Kent Brothers. Winter peeked between the small space he could see through and discovered that Blue was not walking in the direction of the restroom.
He wanted to follow Blue but was blocked once again by Atlas and Eliot.
"Where do you think you’re going?" Eliot spoke with a gruff tone.
"Fuck you. Get out of my way." Winter wasn’t sure of the kind of spirit that possessed him at that moment, prompting him to speak so thuggishly with a puffed out chest and flared nostrils.
"You must be truly tired of living." Eliot cracked his fingers in a sinister manner.
Winter didn’t feel or show the slightest bit of fear. He was just angry. And he didn’t know how to control his anger. These two people in front of him just ruined everything. Absolutely everything that he had been trying to build for months and hadn’t even sustained for a full month.
"What is wrong with the two of you?" Winter couldn’t stop himself from asking the two Kent brothers that question.
"Do the two of you derive pleasure in seeing Blue unhappy? Why go out of your way to ruin Blue’s mood time and time again?" Winter asked, fed up.
"Watch your mouth, kid." Atlas spoke with a deep and menacing tone as he slowly began to exude angry pheromones.
Winter was not going to let himself get bullied and oppressed by him, but he began to let out his own pheromones to counter the effects of Atlas’s pheromones and suppress him instead.
And with the kind of pheromones Winter had, the effect it had on fellow Alphas who had imposing pheromones was vastly different to its effects on Omegas. His pheromones began suffocating to Alphas, deeply pungent, and able to smother their pheromones as well as their sense of reasoning.
"Don’t call me a kid. Do you have any idea how annoying you are?" Winter spoke to Atlas without fear.
The effects of his pheromones showing clearly on Atlas’s face. Though Atlas was fighting Winter’s pheromones with his own, it was obvious that he wasn’t winning. The same thing applied to Eliot.
But Eliot was more audible about his discomfort as he gritted his teeth and said, "Stop leaking those pheromones of yours, you bastard!"
Winter chose to ignore Eliot and said:
"You two deserve to be taught a lesson."
