Chapter 25 - 24 | True Self

Chapter 25: 24 | True Self

Blue couldn’t stop thinking about what happened at the Kent family dinner in the following days. After Preston had announced that he had brain cancer, he went ahead to tell them that there was less than a year for him to live.

Which was why he wanted to spend his last few days with his family and make up for the mistakes that he had done in the past. Of course, Blue’s heart didn’t melt after hearing all of this.

"So if you weren’t dealing with a terminal illness, you would’ve never thought to try and make amends for the things you did in the past, right? Heh. I knew coming here was going to be a waste of my time."

Blue had said those words to Preston, then left the Kent house. Was it a cruel thing for him to do? Maybe. However, Blue felt that Preston being on the verge of death wasn’t enough reason for him to forget his childhood experiences.

But it was reason enough for him to change his mind on a particular subject.

This particular subject explained why Blue and Winter were standing underneath a tree in a secluded area of Chestfied University.

"I got your text, but it was pretty vague..." Winter said with his hands shoved inside his pockets awkwardly.

Last night, he randomly received a text from an unknown number.

[Behind the old baseball club’s locker room under the cursed tree at 2pm. This is Blue, btw.]

That was all the text said. Winter had been skeptical about the content, so he called up the number. Surprisingly, it was actually Blue!

And Blue’s voice on the phone had a very seductive edge to it. Winter agreed to meet him, totally forgetting to ask the reason why Blue wanted to meet with him.

"I changed my mind." Blue said, taking off the coat of shame that he always wore.

Winter’s jaw dropped. But he managed to pick it back up in less than a second.

"About the character model-"

"Yes." Blue stopped Winter from saying anything more.

This was such an embarrassing thing for him to do. Seeking help from an Alpha... Blue never thought that he’d ever get to experience such a thing.

Especially from an Alpha whom he loathed the sheer being of.

"Are you really serious?" Winter questioned, wanting to confirm that he wasn’t hallucinating or daydreaming again.

Blue turned his head away from Winter and said, "Would I have called to meet with you all the way out here if I wasn’t serious?"

’Fair point.’ Winter thought.

"But what changed your mind?" he asked aloud.

He clearly remembered Blue saying that he would rather put up with any other Alpha than him. Yet, it was this same Blue that took the initiative to ask for his help and accept his offer?

It sounded fictional.

Also, Winter remembered being rude to Blue. He even fucking threatened the guy! How come the tables had turned so suddenly?!

"You don’t need to know that." Blue faced Winter with an icy expression.

Winter thought to lay off Blue a little bit.

"Anyway, you’re the one who told me that the offer was still up. Do you agree or not?" Blue spoke with a monotonous voice.

"Of course, I agree!" Winter exclaimed without thinking. Then he realized that he had sounded too eager. He cleared his throat and attempted to modify his words.

"I mean-"

"Stop." Blue cut Winter off, putting out his palm. "Now that you’ve agreed to work with me, you need to stop doing all of that when you’re around me."

"All of what?" Winter questioned with an oblivious tone.

Blue gave him a deadpan stare.

"I don’t know if it’s some kind of defense mechanism of yours. But when you’re with me, don’t pretend. Don’t act. Don’t lie." Blue said, and there was an odd sense of pleading in his tone as he spoke.

Winter was taken aback a little bit. He wanted to say something, but Blue spoke up before him.

"All you have to do is be yourself. Your true self." Blue said.

Winter broke into a self-depreciating smile. His true self was a fucking asshole. If he showed that side to Blue, wouldn’t the little Omega run off to the other direction as fast as he could?

"What’s that smile supposed to mean? I already know that you have no redeeming traits." Blue said to Winter with one side of his lips tugged up in irritation.

Crack.

That was the sound of Winter’s belief in his own flawless acting breaking.

"How did you-"

"Know that you’re a wolf wearing sheep’s clothing? I’m not like the other Omegas who seem to flock around you, leaving their IQs far behind." Blue spoke with an obvious tone, rolling his eyes.

"And you still want me to be your character model?" Winter asked.

"Again, would I have called you all the way out here if I wasn’t serious?"

Winter clamped his mouth shut after receiving that response. Then he began to think of what to do next. He had planned to sway Blue’s heart with kind and considerate gestures, showing that he was a good person with a pure heart.

However, it seemed like Blue already knew that his heart was black and dirty. How was he supposed to woo Blue now!?

"I see... In that case, I will do my best to-"

"Winter! What are you doing out here!?" A feminine voice interrupted Winter.

Winter and Blue both turned to the owner of the voice. Two people were standing a few feet away from them. They were a male Alpha and a female Omega.

It looked like they were out here to make out, judging by the lustful look on the Alpha’s face and the flushed cheeks of the Omega.

What were the odds that they would bump into Blue and Winter in this kind of place?

This made Winter remember that this cursed tree was a sacred spot for lovers in Chestfield to do naughty things underneath. And Blue was the one who set up this meeting arrangement...

Winter turned to look at Blue with a newfound sense of respect and attraction.

However, Blue did not have any idea that this so-called cursed tree was a sacred spot for lovers. He only believed that it would be a nice spot to have a private conversation with Winter because he had once heard that whenever two people came to this place, they would be given the utmost height of privacy.

To be clear, Blue had not listened to the complete context of the conversation.

If it were to be any other Alpha and Omega caught underneath the cursed tree, people would immediately think that they were lovers having a good time.

However, the ones underneath the tree this time were Winter and Blue. What good time? It was clear that Blue wanted to beat up poor Winter in this secluded area!

The author has something to say:

(Mini theater):

Winter: He already knows I’m a scumbag, how am I supposed to catch him now!?

Blue: Catch some sense first, then we’ll talk.
