Shades of Blue (Omegaverse BL)
Chapter 147 - 145 | For Protection

Chapter 147: 145 | For Protection

"I’m sorry for everything. I swear," Winter said sincerely.

"Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to the omegas you left with PTSD," Blue said harshly, looking out the window.

Winter gripped the steering wheel hard and said, "I know."

Blue didn’t exchange words with Winter again after that. Instead, he fell into deep thought as Winter started up the engine and began to drive.

Winter said he didn’t touch Kendall intimately and didn’t do anything with him. So what had Blue seen them doing?

Blue knew Winter wasn’t lying. He could always tell when Winter lied. This time, Winter told him the honest truth. So the truth Blue saw with his own eyes was a lie?

Blue couldn’t understand. Worse, he couldn’t understand why he had hurt so much when he saw them. Why his glands felt like they were trying to jump out from his body at that time.

The pain he felt, mental and physical. Had any of it been real?

Yes. They must have. Blue could still sense some mild itching at the back of his neck, so it was obvious that he hadn’t imagined the whole thing.

So what was real and what was fake?

"... Blue. Blue?"

"Huh?" Blue was pulled back to reality as Winter repeatedly called out to him, shaking his body.

"Are you okay?" Winter asked Blue.

"I’m fine," Blue replied in dismissal, nodding his head.

"Sure? Cause we’ve been parked in front of your building for a while now and you weren’t responding to my calls," Winter said.

Blue glanced outside and saw that they were indeed in front of his building. The café wasn’t really far from it so it was quite normal to get here so fast.

"I’m fine," Blue said again, opening the door and stepping out of Winter’s car.

Winter alighted the car as well, tailing after Blue who walked inside the building without even glancing back.

He walked silently behind Blue. They got into the elevator together silently. Winter didn’t know what to say or do to Blue.

Should he apologize to him again? Or act cute to distract him? What would make Blue even look at him?

They reached Blue’s floor and Blue was the first to step out of the lift. He was already walking towards his apartment when he stopped and turned around.

"What are you doing?" he asked Winter.

"Huh?"

"Why are you following me?" Blue sounded irritated.

Proper words got stuck in Winter’s throat and he ended up saying, "For protection."

Blue looked at Winter like he was insane when he heard that response from his mouth.

"Look, Winter, I want to be alone now. So just go, okay?" Blue tried to sound gentle as he spoke.

He didn’t want to be with Winter right now. He just wanted to be alone. However, his gentle approach didn’t stop Winter’s face from falling and twisting with subtle hurt.

"We’ll still have our date tonight, right?" Winter asked hopefully, holding Blue’s gaze.

Blue had totally forgotten that he’d agreed to spend time with Winter later in the day. Fuck.

"Right?" Winter pressed, waiting for Blue to respond positively.

"Hm," Blue hummed, just wanting to say anything that would get Winter to back off for the meantime.

"Okay, then," Winter perked up, "I’ll see you later."

He came close to kiss Blue, but Blue reflexively turned his head away, making Winter’s kiss fall to his cheek.

It was such an awkward moment. Blue ran away from it by going towards his door and unlocking it. Winter still wanted to follow Blue, but he had to restrain himself from being too clingy.

That was how he forced himself to turn around and leave Blue.

Meanwhile, Blue walked inside his apartment after opening the front door, acting like he couldn’t get away from Winter fast enough.

He went straight to the kitchen to get himself water. His throat felt itchy. In fact, his entire body felt itchy.

He downed a full glass of water in one second and still felt weird.

Why were things between him and Winter so awkward? Why’d he have to find out about Winter’s past? Why’d Winter have to be so complicated? Why couldn’t everything between the two of them be normal and okay again?

Even if it was just for one day.

Blue stomped to his room and plopped down on his bed. He grabbed a nearby pillow and pushed himself up on the bed to lie down, kicking off his shoes.

He tightened his grip on the pillow as he replayed everything that just happened in his head. Blue didn’t know what to do now.

He’d always been an omega rights’ activist of some sort. Winter’s past was inexcusable. But Winter’s present was irresistible. Winter might still be a scumbag, but he was a scumbag who Blue loved and couldn’t do without.

Blue had learned to love Winter and accept him for his cringe self. Would he have to learn how to love the old Winter and his terrible sides?

If he could, maybe he’d stop feeling like he was obligated to punish Winter for his actions. And if he couldn’t, it was clear that he wouldn’t be able to be with Winter completely.

Author has something to say: Ugh, I feel so bad for the two of them. I just wish they could kiss away all their problems and live happily ever after.

It’s hard writing about them fighting all the time even if it’s important for the plot now.

But I have to say, the two of them have really grown compared to the beginning Chapters. I think... I hope. What do you guys think about their character developments?

Okay? Noticeable? Not noticeable? Needs more work? Or close to perfection? I want to hear y’alls thought.

Also want to take this opportunity to appreciate each and every one of you that’s stuck with this book from the beginning with all the typos and all. I really love you guys.

Anyways, that’s all for now! ❤️
