Chapter 128: 126 | Awkward
Winter was struck with confusion because of Blue’s question.
"What do you mean by that? What am I not telling you?" he countered.
"That’s exactly what I want to know too," Blue pressed on, stubbornly.
"I don’t understand," Winter walked towards Blue in urgency.
"Why did you break out of character? No one cares about their reputation as much as you do yours. So why do you keep forgetting about it these days?" Blue asked.
Winter looked at him like he was a lunatic.
"I don’t really care about it that much. It’s no big deal." Winter tried to reason with Blue.
"No big deal? Winter, you literally get me to play along with your role whenever we’re in public. That’s how much you care!" Blue increased the volume of his voice, drawing attention to the two of them unconsciously.
Winter noticed this immediately and lowered his own voice to say, "Calm down. This isn’t such an important matter to get you so worked up."
"I’m not getting worked up. I’m just trying to understand you." Blue reduced the volume of his voice, sounding a little bit desperate.
Winter looked at Blue closely, searching for something on his face before he gave up with a sigh after a few seconds.
"I just don’t like seeing other people disrespecting you. You come first before my reputation." Winter said.
Blue couldn’t exactly explain why but he felt some sort of relief after hearing Winter’s response.
"You still haven’t told me why you even care about your reputation in the first place." Blue muttered under his breath as he began to move his legs.
Blue heard Winter laugh behind him before he caught up with his pace.
"Not everyone gives zero shits like you." Winter said. "What about your red-haired friend? Doesn’t he act differently around people compared to the way he acts around you and Logan?"
Blue gave Winter’s words a thought. Adam was relatively the most nice and cheerful person, but was always mean towards Logan.
Maybe Winter was right. Not everyone gave zero shits about stuff like him.
Winter and Blue made their way back to the area where Blue and Adam were supposed to be hanging out.
On reaching there, Blue noticed that Adam was covered in a shawl. He also noticed another pair of legs sticking out from the shawl. There were also... movements underneath the shawl.
Blue stopped moving and gave himself a facepalm.
Adam was really as shameless as they came. As though Winter could read Blue’s exact thoughts, he let out a laugh and said, "Those fools are so shameless."
But as he said that, he had already crept behind Blue and wrapped an arm around Blue’s waist.
"Ugh! What are you doing?" Blue tried to push Winter away with a palm to his jaw, but Winter held on tight.
"This hangout has already crashed. Let’s go somewhere else," Winter offered naughtily.
Blue was not amused as he said, "Who’s fault is that? You and your brain-dead friend just couldn’t let Adam and I catch a break, could you?"
Winter responded to Blue’s question by kissing his neck and saying, "No. We couldn’t."
Blue rolled his eyes and gave up on pushing Winter away. The guy was too persistent in things like this, and there was no point trying to get him to back off.
That was how Blue was coerced into getting into Winter’s car and having him drive to God knows where. During the ride, Winter kept on trying to bring irrelevant things to Blue’s attention.
He was shut down as fast as he came up with them.
Blue didn’t have any particular reason for keeping Winter silent. He just wanted the quiet and peace. Especially since Winter was never quiet and peaceful.
Winter had managed to wiggle his way into Blue’s life once again and with him the things that got Blue worried and sometimes insecure.
The car came to a stop. Blue glanced through the window and saw that Winter had stopped in front of a fancy restaurant.
The sun was no longer very bright and had changed to a subtle orange color as the sky transitioned to a shade of deep, but not dark, blue.
The day had gone past him just like that, Blue was surprised. Winter had already gotten down from the car and turned to Blue’s side to open the door for him.
Blue didn’t think too much of the action as Winter put a hand out to help him. He casually swatted the hand away and got out by himself. This type of interaction was something casual between them that happened without saying.
"You’re hungry, aren’t you?" Winter asked Blue.
"I’m not," Blue replied.
He truly wasn’t. He was stuffed with juice and snacks. Blue was with the mind that pregnant people were always hungry and had weird cravings.
He was almost three months pregnant and his own symptoms got him to reject food most of the time. He was still able to eat the things he liked. But just in little portions before he would grow tired of them.
"Oh," Winter said with a letdown tone, only to perk up right back in a second. "The back has a hotel. So we can just..."
"No." Blue didn’t need to hear the rest of Winter’s offer before he rejected it.
Anything that would lead them getting into a room with a bed would result in making use of that bed for hooking up. And with a lot of thought, Blue had decided not to have sex with Winter for the meantime. To maintain his clearheadedness, of course.
(As if the mere mention of Winter’s name wasn’t enough to drive him insane.)
"Worth a shot." Winter accepted the rejection without making a fuss as he had somewhat expected it.
He was about to offer something else when a familiar figure came into his view. The person was walking out of the restaurant hand-in-hand with a tall female dressed in a power suit.
It was easy to guess that the tall female was an alpha.
And for the person Winter’s gaze was fixed on, she was also tall. But she had a slim waist and a killer face. Her eyes were light blue in color and her hair was the shade of strawberry blonde.
She was wearing a bright smile on her face as she walked, pressed up against the female Alpha.
’Fuck.’ Winter cussed in his mind as he suddenly jumped in front of Blue and spread out his arms.
"What the..." Blue’s face scrunched up in confusion at Winter’s unexpectedly odd behavior.
"Um... since you don’t like this place, why don’t we go somewhere else? There’s a lounge close by where we can just–"
"Winter!" A high-pitched feminine voice called out from a distance.
"–have fun and have some drinks. Wait, you’re pregnant, so you can’t have any drinks. How about we just go–"
"Winter, is that you?" The feminine voice sounded much closer this time.
Blue tried to peek out to see who was calling for Winter.
"–home."
"It is you!"
Two voices spoke out at the same time.
Winter’s face turned green. In his moment of distraction, Blue shoved him away to see the person who had been calling out to Winter.
He came face to face with a very pretty female omega and an even prettier female alpha.
"Oh, hi. I didn’t see you there." Winter turned around to face his nightmare, conjuring a composed smile on his face.
’You didn’t?’ Blue looked at Winter skeptically.
"It’s been such a long time. I didn’t think I’d run into you- ah! Is this your new boyfriend?" The female omega was talking when she noticed Blue standing next to Winter and decided to address him.
Blue didn’t like the way she said, ’new boyfriend’. It was as though she’d known that Winter had others before him.
"Ah, this is Blue. My wife." Winter introduced Blue with that title for the second time today as he wrapped his arm around Blue’s waist.
The girl’s eyes widened for a second as she gave herself the time to register the new information in her head. Her expression turned ugly briefly before she tightened her grip on the alpha standing next to her.
"This is Beth. My fiance," she introduced the alpha smugly.
The female alpha extended a hand to shake Winter.
"Winter... I’ve heard a lot of things about you." None of them being good.
Beth didn’t actually say the last part but the look in her eyes intended it. Winter pretended not to be fazed by her hostility as he shook hands with her.
"All good, I presume." Winter took Beth’s hand in a firm clasp, disregarding any sense of shame he was supposed to feel.
Beth only smiled, not saying anything. The atmosphere became awkward as all parties went oddly silent. Blue seemed to be the most awkward as he was the only one unclear about what was going on.
Blue had to poke Winter’s side with his elbow to get the latter to snap back into his senses.
"Um, Blue. This is Sasha, my..."
"Ex-girlfriend."
