Chapter 188: Event Prep (2) [Christian POV]
After glancing at the other options on the wall, I nodded. "I’ll take it. Could you help me choose an outfit around this, please? I don’t want to make a fool out of myself," I said cryptically.
The old man smiled, "First time, eh? No worries, I’ll ensure that you fit in perfectly. Just remember my shop for future events, okay?"
So he does know about the event. He might have ties with the auction house.
"Of course. If it’s satisfactory, I’ll only come here in the future," I replied with a fake smile.
My words clearly cheered the man up, "Thank you, thank you. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you. I’ve been doing this for many years. I have a long list of clients just like you!"
He walked around the room and picked a few items off the shelves. The overall theme was black, but a few of the pieces had gold embroidery on them. By the time he was finished, there was an entire pile of items sitting in front of me.
Does this really require so many things?
"That should do it. What do you think?" he asked with smiling eyes.
"You don’t need to measure me or anything?" I asked skeptically. This was the first time I was in a tailor’s shop and wasn’t measured.
"Haha! Boy, I’ve been in this business longer than you’ve been alive. I know your size just by looking at you. If you don’t trust me, try the jacket on," he said, handing me the black and gold jacket.
I reached out and put it on, glancing at my reflection in the mirror. Sure enough, the jacket slipped on perfectly. It looked like it was tailored specifically for me.
"See? Trust this old man, I’ve got an eye for this kind of thing," he chuckled. "Did you want to try it on first, or would you like me to ring it up?"
I glanced at the large pile of items. Truthfully, I didn’t want to try it on. But there were a few accessories that I wasn’t sure how to wear.
"I’d like to try it on. Could you assist me with the accessories?" I asked.
"Of course! Some of these can be tricky. Here, use this fitting room. I’ll help once you’ve changed."
I walked into the small dressing room and quickly changed into the new suit. The way it fit my body was better than some of my custom-tailored suits.
If this place isn’t affiliated with the Moresi auction house, then I might consider coming here for some of my other suits.
The shopkeeper then walked in and helped me put on the rest of the accessories, including the mask. When I finally turned around and looked at myself in the mirror, I was surprised.
I looked like an underground evil prince who was attending a masquerade. But I did have to give credit to the old man; the outfit he chose did fit me well. The best part was that I was unrecognizable.
"It’s great. Thank you, I’ll take it all," I said resolutely.
"Good, good. You get changed. I’ll start ringing you up," he said happily as he walked away.
By the time I finished changing back into my normal clothes, the shopkeeper was already waiting for me outside the dressing room.
"I’ll go in and wrap everything up for you. Please wait for a few minutes."
I nodded and walked over to the mask rack in the middle of the room, trying to memorize each one. I was curious to see how many people at that event were patrons of this shop.
Meanwhile, the shopkeeper was elegantly wrapping all of my items into fancy boxes, which quickly began to pile up. He quickly carried them upstairs and motioned for me to follow him.
"I added the cost up for all of your items, and since you decided to buy a full set today, I’ll give you a ten percent discount," he said happily from behind the counter.
I nodded, waiting to hear the final cost.
"Your total today is one million eight hundred fifty-two thousand," he said with a bright smile.
Not cheap, but it makes sense. The quality is certainly there...
I pulled out my wallet but hesitated handing him my card. After a quick thought, I handed him my alternate card, one that didn’t have my real name on it.
He glanced down at it before sliding it through the card reader.
"Thank you for your purchase, Mr. Smith. I hope to see you back here soon!" he said, handing me the card back with the receipt.
I smiled in reply and walked out of the shop with the boxes and bags with my purchases.

*** BONUS POV ***
Shopkeeper POV:
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a fresh face shopping for the event. He was certainly wealthy... Didn’t flinch one bit when I told him the final price.
As soon as he was out of view, I picked up the phone beside me and dialed a special number.
"What is it? I told you not to call me unless it was important," an irritated voice from the other side grumbled.
"Karl. You guys have some new blood? I just had a fresh face. This one is loaded, too. I upcharged him by a million, and he didn’t even react!" I said, sharing my exciting news.
"I don’t know of any new blood. What was his name?"
I glanced down at my copy of the receipt. "John Smith," I answered.
"Moron, that can’t be his real name. That’s like the most generic name I can think of!" Karl shouted over the phone.
"Oh, well, I guess that’s not uncommon. Most of my clients use cash so they don’t leave a trail..."
"Whatever. He’s probably someone Georgio invited. There have been a few cases like this in the past," Karl said. "Okay, I’m busy. Don’t call me over stupid shit like this again."
Before I could reply, I heard him hang up.
"Oh well, at least I made a crazy sale!" I said, walking back to my workshop.
