Chapter 142: Chapter 142 Gu Family’s Lady Boss
An Junxi seemed to be seeking Liang Huiyun’s opinion as she spoke, but her eyes were fixed on Gu Yikun.
She hadn’t discussed this with him, so she didn’t know if he would agree.
She had long wanted to further her studies in photography; she didn’t have the means before, but now she did. She planned to work hard, integrating her interest into her job, to see what kind of results she could achieve.
She had to give up her current job, which she really liked. She would miss Si Yuan and her colleagues at Si Yuan, but in life, you can’t have it all. To gain something, you must lose something.
Seeing Zhang Miaoyan’s behavior tonight, An Junxi finally made up her mind to pursue her dreams. The temptations around Gu Yikun were too many—he was too excellent. She needed to work hard to keep up with him, to stand by his side, not behind him.
Only this way, Gu Yikun’s gaze would always be on her, and she wouldn’t constantly worry about someone else taking him away, whether it’s a Li Miaoyan or Tang Miaoyan.
Gu Yikun said, "If you want, I will arrange it for you."
Liang Huiyun might still not like it, but rather than letting Zhang Miaoyan stay at the Gu Family, she preferred letting An Junxi keep an eye on that vixen.
Gu Kuangyong had no objection, "Learning photography is good; it’s a profound art."
An Junxi said to Zhang Miaoyan, "Did you hear that? You can stay; now you can go to the hospital without worry."
Zhang Miaoyan’s mind was muddled. She had been holding up her spirits, and hearing An Junxi’s words finally put her at ease. In a weak voice, she said, "Thank you, Jun Xi."
After speaking, she fainted.
Soon, several servants lifted Zhang Miaoyan onto a car, and the hall finally quieted down.
Not sparing Gu Kuangyong a glance, Liang Huiyun stormed upstairs in anger, while Gu Kuangyong sat on the sofa, his face full of fatigue.
Gu Kuangyuan followed upstairs, glancing at An Junxi as she passed by, signaling her to go upstairs.
An Junxi understood her aunt’s meaning; she wanted her to comfort her mother.
She asked Gu Yikun to return to the room first, then prepared some flower tea and went upstairs. Outside her mother’s room, she heard her crying inside.
Her father had said such harsh words to her mother because of his old lover’s daughter; even the strongest woman would be heartbroken.
An Junxi hesitated about whether to knock on the door or not when Gu Jin Xiu called her from behind, "Mommy."
Turning back, An Junxi saw Gu Jin Xiu standing behind her in his pajamas, "What’s wrong? Did we wake you up?"
She put the flower tea on the table beside her, walked over, and squatted down to look at him, worrying whether Jin Xiu had seen Zhang Miaoyan’s blood-covered face. She hoped it hadn’t scared the child.
After all, she herself had been quite frightened.
Gu Jin Xiu said, "I heard what Zhang Miaoyan said."
An Junxi hugged him, saying, "Don’t overthink it. She isn’t that bad. I believe your grandfather." She hoped Jin Xiu wouldn’t get used to seeing people with an unfriendly eye; he was still young, and his world should be beautiful.
Gu Jin Xiu said, "She made Grandma cry. She’s really a bad woman!"
An Junxi comforted him with a few words, then said, "Jin Xiu is the most understanding. Go and comfort Grandma, say goodnight to her, and she’ll feel better."
Gu Jin Xiu went to knock on the door, saying, "Grandma, it’s me, Jin Xiu."
After a long silence inside, Liang Huiyun opened the door.
Gu Jin Xiu held the flower tea, saying, "Grandma, don’t be upset because of Zhang Miaoyan. When I grow up, I’ll protect you."
Liang Huiyun’s eyes became moist again. She welcomed them inside, and Gu Jin Xiu poured her a cup of tea.
"Jin Xiu is so good," Liang Huiyun said, taking a sip of the tea and feeling her gloom lift a bit.
An Junxi said, "Mother, Father just feels sorry for Zhang Miaoyan. He has long forgotten anyone from the past. It’s unnecessary to keep arguing over this. Please relax; as long as no one brings up the past, Father will gradually forget. Get some sleep early."
Liang Huiyun sat silently for a long time, then said, "I’ve walked through most of my life with him, and still, I don’t know if he truly has me in his heart."
It was the first time An Junxi heard her mother speak such vulnerable words. Her mother appeared strong and undefeatable, but her heart still needed people’s concern.
She comforted her mother with a few words, then took Jin Xiu back to their room.
No amount of words from others could help; it was something the couple needed to slowly work out.
After putting Gu Jin Xiu to sleep, An Junxi returned to her bedroom, where Gu Yikun was sitting at the bedside reading, waiting for her.
She climbed into bed and snuggled into his arms, "Yikun, I thought Mother and Father were just tolerating each other, but it’s not true. They do love each other." After so many years, they had both been so strong, tormenting each other for most of their lives; it was indeed not easy.
Gu Yikun set the book aside and ran his long fingers through her hair, imprinting a kiss on her lips, cherishingly saying, "Xi Xi, thank you for caring so much about them."
He had always been distant from his parents; if it weren’t for her, the Gu Family would have remained cold and lifeless. The atmosphere would have suffocated people.
Since she came into his life, everything got better.
An Junxi looked up at him, "Why are you thanking me? I am your wife."
Gu Yikun affectionately ruffled her hair, saying, "Thank you for marrying me."
An Junxi smiled and asked, "How is the matter of me joining the Gu Family?"
"First, tell me why you want to join Wanling Entertainment instead of some other place? If you want to learn photography, I can hire the best tutor for you." Entering Wanling Entertainment was like stepping into the entertainment industry, a cruel and bloody world. He didn’t want her exposed to it, hoping she could stay protected under his wing, living simply and worry-free, not touched by the complexities.
An Junxi rested her head on his chest, saying, "Wanling Entertainment is an independent company, rapidly growing. I know the personnel there are complex; I want to challenge myself."
Gu Yikun said, "I’m worried about you."
"I know," An Junxi said coyly, "If I find myself wronged, I’ll seek the president’s help. You have to protect me."
Gu Yikun reluctantly agreed, "Then I’ll arrange an assistant for you and have the general manager Yang Chenmin look after you. If any artist dares to mistreat you, you just come to me."
An Junxi said, "Isn’t it inappropriate to have an assistant right after joining the company?" As a newcomer, she should be the assistant, yet she would have her own assistant?
"You’re the boss’s wife; there’s nothing inappropriate about it."
An Junxi wondered aloud, "Outside, I’m merely your girlfriend."
"That’s my bottom line. If you don’t get an assistant, I won’t agree."
"Alright," An Junxi compromised, "Then I’ll inform Senior Sister about my resignation in a few days."
Mentioning Gong Xiaoyu, Gu Yikun asked, "Is there something you haven’t told me? What’s the deal with Yue Xiaoyang and your senior sister?"
An Junxi sighed, "I don’t know what Yue Xiaoyang is thinking. They seem to like each other, so what’s the problem?"
Gu Yikun said, "Xiaoyang has a fear of marriage."
