Secretly Married to the Ice-Cold CEO -
Chapter 141 Joining the Gu Family
Chapter 141: Chapter 141 Joining the Gu Family
The Gu Family Mansion was anything but peaceful late at night.
Doctor Kong had recently been stationed at the Gu home, measuring the Seventh Uncle’s blood pressure daily and providing traditional Chinese medical treatments. When Zhang Miaoyan had her accident, Doctor Kong immediately came down from upstairs.
He quickly stopped the bleeding and bandaged Zhang Miaoyan. She hadn’t passed out yet, so he performed a simple examination and asked her a few questions, which she answered softly.
Doctor Kong told Gu Kuangyong, "Mr. Gu, Miss Zhang is currently conscious, but she needs to go to the hospital for a detailed brain examination to avoid any long-term consequences."
Gu Kuangyong instructed Uncle Cheng to prepare the car.
Zhang Miaoyan tried to sit up, but Doctor Kong held her down, "Miss Zhang, don’t move around carelessly."
Zhang Miaoyan shook her head and tearfully said, "Uncle Gu, I don’t want to go to the hospital. You have to believe me, I really wasn’t trying to seduce the young master..."
Liang Huiyun became furious and shouted, "If she doesn’t go to the hospital, throw her out. Don’t let her die here and dirty the Gu Family’s home!"
Gu Kuangyong reprimanded her, "That’s enough of your shouting!"
Liang Huiyun glared at Gu Kuangyong, "You’re still defending this vixen after what she’s done?"
Gu Kuangyong said, "I know my limits. You don’t need to meddle unnecessarily."
Liang Huiyun slapped the table, "Fine, I’m meddling? Would you feel at ease if this woman drove your son and daughter-in-law to divorce?"
An Junxi quickly stepped in to calm Liang Huiyun, "Mother, let’s hear what Father has to say first."
Liang Huiyun sat on the sofa, pounding her chest in frustration, "What else can he say except defending this vixen?"
An Junxi stayed silent and looked at Gu Kuangyong, waiting for him to continue.
Gu Kuangyong sighed and said, "Jun Xi, it’s not that your father doesn’t take you seriously, but it’s not good for anyone to make hasty conclusions about this matter."
An Junxi nodded silently.
Gu Kuangyong looked at the injured Zhang Miaoyan. She reminded him of the woman who was expelled from the Gu home years ago.
At that time, he was young and didn’t understand the complexities of love, only that her smile was captivating. The days spent with her were relaxing, and whenever he was tired from studying, she would bring him a cup of hot tea or place a coat over his shoulders.
Gradually, he became accustomed to her company. He wanted to fight for her to receive an education so she could stay by his side.
His family, of course, did not permit this. When the matriarch discovered her son had an interest in a mere servant, she was enraged and fabricated charges to expel the girl from the Gu home.
The matriarch declared, "You are a young master of the Gu Family and the future heir! Your wife can only be the eldest daughter of the Liang Family, Liang Huiyun. Understand that daydreaming about anything else is futile!"
Gu Kuangyong lacked the strength to fight his family. Not wanting her to suffer because of him, he left for overseas in anguish, fearing that staying would drive him mad.
Years later, following his family’s arrangements, he returned to marry Liang Huiyun. When his position within the Gu Family was secure, he couldn’t resist searching for that beautiful, kind girl from his memories.
Everything had changed with time. He thought if she was living well, he would bless her silently. If not, he would help her as much as he could, to ease his conscience.
Years later, finding an ordinary woman in such a vast country proved difficult. He waited patiently for news, and finally, a devastating revelation came.
After being expelled from the Gu home, she led a turbulent life, met the wrong people, had two miscarriages, and eventually gave birth to a daughter.
Her in-laws threw her and her newborn out, declaring, "What use is a woman who can’t bear sons? She’s a bearer of misfortune!"
Her health failing, she left her daughter at an orphanage’s doorstep before taking her last breath.
When he found Zhang Miaoyan at the orphanage, she was already six years old.
A frail child with yellowing hair and a sickly complexion, she hid behind the door when she saw strangers and would cry if spoken to.
The orphanage staff said, "This child doesn’t fit in, often bullied by others, and isn’t very bright. If you’re looking to adopt, we can find someone more suitable."
"No need, I’ll take her."
Zhang Miaoyan’s existence had to be kept secret from Liang Huiyun, and Gu Kuangyuan had been secretly sponsoring her education up to university. Only then did this matter come to light.
Since then, the already strained marriage between him and Liang Huiyun grew worse with constant arguments. Liang Huiyun repeatedly targeted Zhang Miaoyan, but Gu Kuangyuan always defended her.
He had done so much, grooming Zhang Miaoyan into an accomplished individual. Unfortunately, her humble origins always made her insecure, limiting her achievements.
Gu Kuangyuan had high expectations for Zhang Miaoyan. Seeing the chaos tonight pained him deeply.
His eyes filled with sorrow, he said, "Miao Yan, why are you so foolish?"
Zhang Miaoyan wept, "Uncle Gu, you must believe me. I really haven’t done anything wrong. Please don’t fire me from the Gu Family company. I won’t approach the young master again..." She kept repeating herself, genuinely terrified of losing her job at the Gu Family company.
If she didn’t clear things up tonight, there would be no way to fix it later.
Gu Kuangyuan asked, "You truly haven’t done anything to betray the Gu Family?"
"Truly, I haven’t."
Gu Kuangyuan said, "Fine, I believe you."
Liang Huiyun stood up, "Gu Kuangyuan, where does that leave me? Keeping this woman in the Gu Family company is a ticking time bomb. Are you out of your mind?"
Gu Kuangyuan said, "This is my decision, and it’s not up to you to question it!"
Liang Huiyun’s vision darkened, and she wavered. An Junxi quickly supported her.
He then told An Junxi, "Jun Xi, your father won’t misjudge people. Miao Yan wouldn’t do anything inappropriate. Let’s consider tonight’s incident a misunderstanding and never mention it again."
Gu Kuangyuan rarely interfered in family matters, but when he did, no one could challenge him.
An Junxi glanced at the dizzy Liang Huiyun...the two sides were at an impasse, and she had to step forward.
She said, "Since Father has spoken, if Zhang Miaoyan has to stay, then let her stay."
Liang Huiyun looked at her, "An Junxi, do you realize what you’re saying?" She thought her daughter-in-law was on her side; why was she speaking so foolishly at this critical moment?
An Junxi said, "Mother, don’t get upset. It’s not worth ruining your health over Zhang Miaoyan. If she refuses to leave the Gu Family company, then I’ll go work there."
Gu Yikun looked at her in surprise.
Liang Huiyun had the same expression. Didn’t An Jun dislike her current job too much to leave?
An Junxi said, "I plan to further my studies in photography, starting with working at Wanling Entertainment under the Gu Family, taking cover photos for artists, and gradually learning more. What do you think, Mother?"
