Chapter 983: 015 Enemies on a Narrow Road_6
The two arrived at the Emperory western restaurant, and Avery Graham just let Bernard Taylor order the meal without any objections.
"Would you like some music?" Bernard asked. Since they were already here, it was only right to fully enjoy the experience.
"Sure." Today she was treating, but since Bernard wanted to listen to music, she would just foot the bill, nodding generously. Yet deep down, she truly felt the pinch.
Oh, she really wanted to say that she couldn’t compare with the Rich Second Generation Bernard—she could only pray their second restaurant would boom in business because, with Bernard’s spending habits, she honestly couldn’t afford it.
Bernard watched her subtle facial expressions and smiled. With a snap of his fingers, a violinist approached. Bernard requested a piece, and although Avery didn’t have much of a musical sense, she found the music to be very pleasant. Before she knew it, she was completely immersed.
Her mind was blank; she let go for a moment. After the piece finished and Bernard tipped the musician, he left.
It took a while for Avery’s mind to return from its blank state, but she felt much more relaxed. Looking at Bernard, who was smiling at her, she understood why he made her listen to a piece of music first.
This man, he always touched her heart with these thoughtful details.
As the music ended, their meal arrived. Avery’s was the classic Black Pepper Steak with pasta, while Bernard had ordered charcoal-grilled steak with pasta and a thick soup. Since the portions in this restaurant were generous, no appetizers were offered.
Just as they were about to concentrate on their food, Avery suddenly saw two people entering through the door. She frowned—had Jollie Auclair really given up on taking the college entrance exams and just stayed in G City?
She’d heard her talk about retaking the exams over and over to get into G University. Regardless of Jollie’s ulterior motives, at least her persistence was commendable. But now, Avery felt like the girl was becoming more and more degenerate.
After some time apart, Jollie was now wearing heavy makeup. The person next to her, besides Adelle Turner, included many others who were dressed flamboyantly, giving off an unserious vibe.
Avery still remembered how Adelle had dressed when she came to her shop that day, but now, both their styles were so exaggerated.
Avery shook her head, truly feeling sorry for Mrs. Auclair.
"What’s wrong? Did you see someone familiar?" Bernard noticed Avery’s attentive gaze and turned to look, but he didn’t recognize anyone. He turned back and asked.
"Hmm, it’s Michael Auclair’s sister and his current girlfriend," Avery nodded. She didn’t know how this happened, but perhaps G City was just too small, and she was always running into the Auclair Family.
Since it was Jollie’s first time in such a luxurious place, she knew that by following Adelle, she could live comfortably. Indeed, Adelle took her to very high-end venues, places Jollie had never even dreamed of before.
After enjoying the good life with Adelle, Jollie naturally said good things about her in front of their Big Brother. Besides that, she thoroughly enjoyed the opulent lifestyle she had always longed for.
She looked around, taking in everything inside the restaurant and observing the diners. Then, her gaze came full circle, and she saw Avery dining with a man.
She knew that Michael Auclair had been taken down a peg by Avery. The night he bumped into Avery, Michael came home drunk as a lord. Jollie took care of him all night and heard him talk nonsense while under the influence.
From Michael’s disjointed words, Jollie gathered that Avery already had another man.
This woman, despite their mother praising how good she was, what was the truth? They accused her Big Brother and Adelle of betraying her, but this woman had already found herself another man long ago, she was just waiting for her Big Brother to initiate the breakup. What a calculating woman she was.
She whispered something to Adelle and made her way to Avery. Avery was focusing on her meal and didn’t notice them, so when Jollie approached, they both thought it was a waiter.
It wasn’t until Jollie picked up their glass of lemon water and splashed it onto Avery’s face that they snapped back to reality, and the waiters in the Grand Hall realized what happened.
"Jollie Auclair, what are you doing?" Avery wiped her face with a napkin while glaring at Jollie, who came with a threatening air and a smug look on her face.
