Chapter 982: 015 Enemies on a Narrow Road_5
After Bernard Taylor finalized his deal with Avery, she planned to give further instructions.
In just two days, Bernard had found several properties and narrowed it down to three, all of which were in great locations with heavy foot traffic.
Bernard sorted out company matters in the morning and went for lunch with Avery Graham at noon, then both followed the agent by car to view the properties. Avery was satisfied with all three, and any one of them was better than her present Cake Shop. She wasn’t really good at choosing.
Ultimately, it was still Bernard who made the decision. After viewing all three, they chose the second one because, although its location wasn’t the very best among them, the rent and accompanying costs made it the most cost-effective choice.
In the afternoon, Bernard had the Design Company come to take measurements and together the three of them agreed on a design scheme. As the store would be replicated as part of a chain, the designer suggested renovating according to the original Lala Cake Shop’s decor style.
Bernard had the same idea, and at this point, Avery felt her initial shop’s decoration was really too simple. She had prioritized a quick opening and hadn’t spent much effort on the decor, focusing more on the quality and innovation of the cakes. But now she wondered if the style was too basic should she expand into many branches with Bernard’s support.
"What are you thinking about?" Bernard noticed Avery was deep in thought about her matters and asked her.
"Nothing much, I just feel like my previous shop’s decor was too casual. Look, should I close for a few days to renovate the first shop as well?" Avery proposed.
"Hmm, Ms. Graham’s suggestion is good. In my opinion, you can agree on a new design scheme, which can be implemented in the first shop after the second one opens. This way, Ms. Graham wouldn’t need to close down. What do the two of you think?" The designer offered his thoughtful consideration.
Avery thought this proposal was really good, and the staff Bernard found was reliable.
Seeing Avery agree, Bernard had no objections. The designer provided several renovation plans, all of which Avery liked. She suffered from decision paralysis, and by the time the afternoon had disappeared, she was still wrestling with two options, uncertain which to choose.
Bernard was getting a bit impatient, "Both options are good, they’re in warm color schemes which feel welcoming to customers. I suggest, since they’re both warm, opt for one a bit more cozy and romantic. Considering your Cake Shop is often visited by children, adding a touch of fairy tale wouldn’t hurt. What do you think?"
He was referring to the plan Avery was holding in her right hand, and after reviewing it again, she decided to go with Bernard’s suggestion.
Indeed, many of her cakes were designed with kids in mind, hence after school, children loved flocking to her Cake Shop.
So, Bernard’s suggestion was excellent.
And it aligned with her own touch of child-like innocence.
Having settled on the decor, the two left the Design Company. Bernard had told Avery she needn’t worry about anything else; all she had to do was wait for the day he announced the opening, bringing staff from the first shop to the second, after which the first could be renovated.
"It’s getting late. I won’t go back to the office, and you don’t need to return to your shop either. Let’s find a place to have dinner," Bernard checked his watch, noting it was time for dinner.
"Okay, I’ll treat you today. Otherwise, we can just go our separate ways," Avery nodded, feeling that she had bothered Bernard a lot and today seemed like a good opportunity to truly thank him.
"Sure, treat me to a feast then, let’s go to Emperory for Western food," Bernard agreed and even specified what he wanted to eat.
"..." A real feast indeed, such a meal would cost at least five figures. But Avery thought about the expenses for the property and the renovation Bernard was covering which dwarfed her own: she’d just be buying a little less real estate. She could earn it back later with effort, "Sure, let’s go."
Bernard nodded, indeed wanting to celebrate that day, and he had some discount vouchers and cash coupons on hand, so even though Avery would be treating him, she wouldn’t have to pay too much out of pocket.
