Chapter 977: 014 Bernard Taylor’s Story_7

He knew Avery Graham was quite fond of these kinds of dishes.

"Let’s go have some nutritious soup today. There’s a place that sells Mushroom Chicken Soup; I heard from Mia Parker last time that it’s pretty good. Let’s give it a try," Avery suggested. She liked eating things like hot pot, but she didn’t have to eat it every day. Moreover, she knew Bernard Taylor had a sensitive stomach and really shouldn’t eat those kinds of foods.

Even now that hot pots came with the Double-flavor option, she knew Bernard didn’t really enjoy that sort of thing.

In the past, when she dragged Bernard along, it was mainly to tease him.

"...Okay," Bernard nodded in agreement.

When they arrived, the restaurant was just an ordinary one, with no private rooms available, just a Grand Hall. They chose a spot by the window. Although Bernard was a young master, he had experienced days like these, so he felt fine dining in such a simple place. Most of the time, as long as the food tasted good, that was all that mattered.

The food at this restaurant was indeed very good. They were fortunate to have arrived early; before long, many people started driving over to eat. Bernard and Avery ordered a medium pot; there were only two of them, after all. Avery didn’t want too much meat, preferring to try various wild mushrooms, which she also found quite delicious and fragrant.

The chicken was taken right out of the coop, and their medium pot’s portion was roughly half a chicken. It was dissected and cooked in the pressure cooker, and they waited nearly half an hour.

During that half-hour, Bernard showed Avery the investment proposal. It was written in simple language, easy to understand, very unlike those complicated business partnership contracts. However, once signed by both parties, they would enjoy the same legal benefits.

After Avery finished reading, even she knew it was a good deal for her. Bernard was investing and taking shares without her spending a dime. She would share in the partnership with her technical skills and labor. They would look for premises together, and once both were satisfied, they would decide on the location, discuss how to decorate it, and talk to the Design Company to finalize the decoration scheme, and then proceed with the renovation.

Avery wouldn’t have to bother with the rest, until the opening day when she would bring her team to the store. The profit split would still be 60-40 in favor of Avery.

"This is obviously too unfavorable for you and too advantageous for me. I’m not investing any money, just contributing my skills, and then bringing my team, and after we’ve paid the salaries, you’re only taking forty percent. Bernard, if you want to help me, don’t make it so obvious, okay?" Avery felt that Bernard’s way of doing things was pointless.

Eventually, everyone would know that Avery Graham didn’t succeed on her own merit; she’d have relied on a man after all.

"I understand, you’ve always felt indebted to me, thinking that I quit nursing because of you. But really, you could think of it this way, what if I just didn’t want to be a nurse anymore? Look at how complex doctor-patient relations are nowadays, there are so many cases of nurses getting assaulted. If I had continued to be a nurse, who knows, I might have ended up lying on a hospital bed one of these days. Leaving the Hospital was like getting away from trouble for me. Besides, I really enjoy my current career now."

Avery said this because she didn’t want Bernard to be too blatantly helping her.

She was okay with contributing her skills as a share of the partnership, and a 60-40 profit split as well, but she insisted on taking forty percent while Bernard took sixty.

Bernard finally gave in to Avery’s persistence and agreed to the profit split she proposed, "Actually, your contribution is not only technical, you also bring your brand. Like other franchise stores, they pay tens of thousands a year just for the use of the brand. So, you’re really not getting that much out of the deal. How about this, once I’ve recouped my investment cost, either we go 60-40 with you taking the larger share, or we split it fifty-fifty. Keep in mind, I might be putting in the effort initially, but later on, it will be mostly you and your team running things. Training the staff is also your job, and your labor is being exploited by me, which is priceless."

"Anyway, no matter what, let’s just proceed like this for now, or else I won’t partner with you, and I’ll go find someone else to work with," Avery stood her ground.

"Fine, let’s do it your way then," Bernard nodded.

"Mhm." Once they finished discussing the partnership plan, the Mushroom Chicken Soup was served. It really smelled delicious, especially with the restaurant’s signature sauce. Dipping the wild mushroom and chicken into the owner’s special sauce made it even more delightful.

Bernard served some soup for Avery. With such a tasty chicken soup, they definitely wanted to drink the broth before eating the meat. They held their bowls, clinked them to celebrate the success of their partnership, and smiled at each other.

Although Avery had tried her best to restrain herself, Bernard still noticed that she was behaving a bit differently towards him today. He didn’t ask why, because he knew Avery too well. If there were things she wanted to talk about, she would speak up without being asked. But if there were topics she didn’t want to discuss, no amount of questioning would make her reveal anything.

In any case, whatever the reason, the fact that Avery showed such a change in her attitude towards him was a significant step forward. He didn’t ask for much now; everything would come with time.
