Chapter 975: 014 Bernard Taylor’s Story_5
Later, she realized that her heartless nature wasn’t easily moved by many stories, but Violet Orson’s love for Bernard Taylor genuinely touched Avery Graham.
"Do you think I went too far? Because Violet couldn’t have children, I separated a couple deeply in love," Nancy Sallow also wiped away tears. She had never talked about these things with anyone, including Bernard Taylor, and even her husband.
Originally, Bernard didn’t want her to go find Avery, but for some reason, she just felt like she needed to talk to Avery and share some of her inner thoughts.
These past few days at home had truly affected her. Her husband spoke some words to her, she also had a conversation with Bernard, and if time could be turned back, she thought, she wouldn’t oppose Bernard and Violet being together again.
But Violet’s death didn’t awaken her either. In Avery’s case, she made the same foolish mistakes. She didn’t want to see Bernard with her partly because she thought Avery’s background wasn’t good enough, and secondly because she felt she couldn’t control such a girl.
She always considered things from her own perspective, never from her son’s.
At that time, her dislike for Violet was simply because she only had Bernard for a son, and no matter what, Bernard should carry on the family line for the Taylor Family.
"From my standpoint, I indeed think you went too far, but from yours, it’s not too excessive, you definitely considered what’s best for Bernard. Auntie, I have a mother too, and today I’ve come to understand a lot. Parents do whatever they do for the sake of their children. Sometimes children can’t understand their parents, and parents can’t understand their children, and that’s normal. I think you should really talk to Bernard. After so many years, I believe he’s not as hard to speak to as you think."
Avery never thought she’d find herself persuading Nancy Sallow one day. She felt Bernard wasn’t that kind of person. Like Violet, she must have wanted to see Bernard happy with her last breath, loving him so much she wouldn’t have wanted to see him estranged from his family.
"Avery, you really are a wonderful girl. I was blind before. How is your relationship with your boyfriend now?" Nancy Sallow knew Bernard didn’t want her to find Avery because he was worried she might do something. But as a mother, there were things she felt obliged to do.
"We broke up a few days ago," Avery said honestly, cautiously glancing at Nancy Sallow, "but don’t worry, Auntie. I won’t pester Bernard. I know I’m not worthy of him. Actually, if Miss Zhu weren’t so unreasonable, I think they’re quite well-matched. Moreover, I just ended a relationship, and I need some time to heal, so, rest assured."
Avery promised, even now that she was single, she wouldn’t set her sights on Bernard.
At first, when she heard Avery had broken up with someone, she was quite pleased. But then, hearing what Avery said after, it weighed on her. What did she mean by not being worthy of him, or that Bernard and another were well-suited, and about needing time to heal from a recent breakup?
It seemed like if their family’s Bernard wanted to get married, he would have to wait.
"Bernard really is a good man, Avery. If you feel uncomfortable living under the same roof with me, we will help you buy a villa when the time comes. You two can live on your own. Don’t worry, I won’t make things difficult for you. After your marriage, whether to have children or not will be up to you two; I won’t interfere, alright? Please don’t make Bernard wait too long, okay? Avery."
Nancy Sallow was practically begging Avery Graham now.
Avery Graham: "..."
Avery was nearly going insane; she could scarcely recognize Nancy Sallow in front of her. And what was she talking about anyway? Talking about them as a couple as if it’s set in stone and even discussing whether to have children after getting married. Although Nancy’s words seemed very respectful, please, she had never thought about that at all. Okay?
What on earth was happening?
She thought Nancy Sallow came over to share Bernard’s story, presumably wanting her to play peacekeeper between mother and son. But now, why did Nancy’s stance seem more like that of a matchmaker?
