Chapter 959: 011 Avery, let’s break up (second update)_4
Jollie Auclair didn’t know that the difference between Adelle Turner and Avery Graham was that Adelle truly liked Big Brother and wanted to be with him, while Avery just didn’t like him as much.
So Adelle needed to ingratiate herself with him, while Avery didn’t need to.
Of course, if Adelle became his sister-in-law, she wouldn’t need to please her anymore. Avery, once married to Michael Auclair, would naturally treat Michael’s family as her own.
That’s the difference between the two kinds of people.
"Jollie, even though I am the boss, if the staff haven’t made any mistakes, I can’t just fire them; that’s a principle of being a decent person. It’s not because I’m the boss that I can do whatever I want, you know?" Avery Graham patiently explained these principles to Jollie Auclair. Given Jollie’s age, which wasn’t much younger than hers, she should be able to understand this.
"..." Jollie Auclair was speechless for a moment, Avery’s response had truly been unexpected.
"Avery is right, Jollie, hurry up and eat, then go back home with mom," Mrs. Auclair said supportively. She hoped that Jollie would return home with her, and carry on with her studies. Even if she didn’t get into G University, getting into any other university would be better than just having a high school diploma.
"Yeah, Jollie, study hard for your retake and focus on your exams. Even if you want to find a job, wait until after the college entrance examination is over," Avery nodded, siding with Mrs. Auclair.
Jollie didn’t say anything. Since Avery wouldn’t budge, she would go to Big Brother and that woman, Adelle Turner. After all, she had made up her mind not to continue her studies and wanted to find a job.
Avery didn’t know about Jollie’s thoughts. After they had eaten, she received a phone call asking her to deliver another fifty boxes of Egg Tarts at four o’clock.
Avery then got busy. She first let Mrs. Auclair and Jollie taste the Egg Tarts they had prepared, to see if they liked them. Seeing their satisfaction, she packed a few boxes for them to take on the road.
Avery never did ask them why they had come here to see her and not Michael directly. Anyway, since they would be family in the future, she didn’t bother to fuss over these details.
But what Avery never expected was that right after sending off the mother and daughter, after she had delivered the orders and collected the payment, and it was already almost five o’clock,
That’s when Michael Auclair’s call came. She picked up the phone, hadn’t managed to say a single word when she heard Michael say on the other end, "Avery, let’s break up, shall we?"
"..." Avery was bewildered for quite a while, not because Michael had abruptly brought up breaking up, but because she wanted to know why he suddenly wanted to break up with her.
She just wanted to know the reason.
"Why?" Avery’s throat was dry; she had been busy for so long and hadn’t even had a chance to drink water. She had wanted to invite Giselle Browman to have dinner with her, but instead, she received this news.
It wasn’t really that her heart was aching; she just felt the need to understand what had caused this.
"Did my mom and Jollie come to find you today?" When Michael heard Avery’s counter-question, he felt a momentary surge of happiness. If Avery could ask this, it meant she cared about him.
"..." So it was Jollie who had gone to complain. Avery really wanted to laugh. She could imagine what Jollie would have said about her in front of Michael; however, she hadn’t expected that Michael would believe his sister’s words so easily, "Fine, let’s break up."
Avery nodded, agreeing to their relationship’s end.
Michael Auclair: "..."
Michael was somewhat stunned. He hadn’t expected Avery to agree so quickly; he thought she would at least ask him for more reasons. But Avery didn’t ask for any after he inquired if his mother and sister had been to see her.
What, after all, was Avery thinking?
In that instant, he started to understand that perhaps Avery didn’t care about him enough.
Jollie stood with her arms crossed, waiting for Big Brother to report the good news to her. She even fantasized that upon hearing about the breakup, Avery would come running back crying and begging Big Brother to stay with her.
But after a while, when she noticed Michael remained silent, she looked up at him and saw he looked frustrated. Curious, she asked, "Big Brother, what’s wrong?"
